Maybe it's a function of arcology living? I have worked as an information broker here but I get more satisfaction from my psychiatric work with traumatised soldiers. I have helped some of the mercenaries in the SEMC. Now, if you thought soldiers were resistant to opening up, mercenaries are always convinced you're trying to learn their secrets. "I was raised here, and I was also a P-P-D detective until five years ago. I knew a lot of people, but I don't remember you, T'Lia."

"It's I who am new to Collace," Roscoe said. "As to not being careful, I'm not sure what we could do differently. Perhaps you have a suggestion? I'm always willing to learn from those more knowledgeable or skilled than myself."

"It's I who am new to Collace," Roscoe said. "As to not being careful, I'm not sure what we could do differently. Perhaps you have a suggestion? I'm always willing to learn from those more knowledgeable or skilled than myself."

Prerna nods at Roscoe's comment. "We noticed you just as you no doubt noticed us. I made a guess that you'd looked around based on a message from our friends. So, we're even and no harm done."

As ex PD I don't need to explain to you why an alias was a necessary professional tool but that's where my offices were. My bag was mostly corporate but I touched on a little crime work".

Jaelah takes a sip of her wine and sets her glass down in a precise movement. "I've come into some assets, and I'd like to help the regular people here, and in this part of the District, to start small businesses so they can have a better life. I don't know how that will work, but I think you and your people would know who would benefit both themselves, their world, and eventually the District from an investment in their futures. As a nice benefit, I'd like to run SuSAG out of the District altogether."

So, SEMC is a collaborating Merc Corp as well? Any others? This is very intriguing to me. We aim to drive a highly corrupt corporation out of a corner of space in which they dont belong. Please elaborate on the specialties and general capabilities you each bring to the team? Where are the sticking points in this “three-way”?

Duran chuckles "I'd say "collaborating" is a term that needs delicate use in District 268. Especially amongst mercenaries where our loyalty is to whoever pays us. That makes selecting a client as important as task for us as it is for those seeking our employment. As to those clients at the very top of the list of those requiring the most diligent due diligence and caution well, that would be Corporations. As to our raft of skills in the 268 market: 4DC supply specialist high tech mercenary soldiers (TL 15) equipped with battledress capable in strike, deep recon and covert orbital insertion roles. We also supply Imperial standard Grav Mech infantry in light IFVs with a number of specialist close support, anti ship and anti tank vehicles operating under our own point defence umbrella with recon drone and ortillery support from our fleet elements. The Regiment of the Falling Night offer most of what we do in the way of Grav Mech infantry and very much more of it but at District 268 standard (TL13). The SEMC offer the same with a possible tech edge over the Aslan and also scout, recon and flexibility options not offered by the Aslan. All regiments are interstellar capable and operate with direct fleet support".

The four Zhodani officers' apparent surprise at your approach turns most definitely to "pleasant surprise" when you address them in their native tongue. The senior officer introduces himself and his comrades "Mr and Mrs Larsson what a pleasure to meet people who speak our language so fluently and well. I am Major Kiriaklabatl, “Kiri” if you prefer and my comrades Captain Qliazatliepr - “Qlia”, Captain Zhablzdieliepr - “Shab” and Captain Chtemialiepr - "Chet". We are attached to the Ambassadorial diplomatic mission to Collace promoting and appreciation of Zhodani language and culture but I had no idea we had already been so successful! The Ambassador is dining this evening and so a little later on I will introduce you to him myself. Does your surname reflect some Sword World heritage?"

The officers are wearing their medal ribbons but not full formal uniform and have clearly been given a dispensation to retain their swords which, though sheathed and carried in their waist sashes, appear to be of the curved cutlass or hanger type.

William bows as an equal to each of the Zhodani in turn using their own protocol. "I greet you Major Kiriaklabatl, Captain Qliazatliepr, Captain Zhablzdieliepr and Captain Chtemialiepr. You do me and my wife honor. Your people have a long and proud history and it is only fitting to speak with you in your own language." He chuckled and shook his head. "I'm afraid my knowledge of Zdtel comes from elsewhere. It is a complement to the importance of this world that four noble warriors such as yourselves would be assigned here. It would be a pleasure to meet your Ambassador." William nodded and smiled and switched to Sagamal. "That is very perceptive of you Kiri. My people originally come from Narsil." He switched back to Zdetl to repeat what he just said in case he was not understood.

Any further discussion was momentarily broken off as the Aslan cadre landed. William watched for a while and then shook his head. "I don't know of anyone that can match the Aslan at their peak for pride, strength and ferociousness. It makes me glad that our common ancestors tamed fire to hold back the predators that commanded the savanna. I have heard of another race far to Trailing that supposedly match the Aslan as soldiers but not as warriors."

You learn that the Zhodani don't speak Sagamaal.

I am doing what I may to broaden my understanding of the people here. So, tell me, what brings you to a party hosted by Collace mercenaries?"

I’ll quickly return it along with my guarantee of double what you lose…payable on the backside of your contract performance and redeployment home. If I know my tinkering buddy like I think I do, I’d consider a guarantee of a direct replacement of your losses plus a souped up copy. Believe me, you’ll like my friend’s improvements. He just can’t help himself you see. He compulsively makes everything, well, better.

I like your Company motto. Recklessness only leads to death. I happened to know all too well. He smiles and winks at Bona then puffs on his cigar.

If so, I’d like to hear a preliminary of list the ground, maritime, and space assets you could bring to bear say, in a couple of weeks. And what numbers are we speaking about? Frank orders whatever Polly is having. "We ought to thank our hosts before mingling." he says as he passes the glass to her. He heads over to Colonel Skeet "Colonel, thank you for the invite. It is good to be back home and one of your recruitment events is always a good place to mix business with pleasure after a successful mission."

Frank is wearing a standard SEMC uniform with rank insignia, but no medals. On his belt hangs a shorter Aslan blade, tied with a 'peace' knot.

Polly enjoys a glass of champagne poured by Skeet "Always a pleasure Frank! I take it Tarsus went well enough? Now that snake Sicarius will find himself having to buy his own factory back from Yūgure or have to fight the entire Iyhlua Clan through it for the privilege of ownership of the ruins?" He laughs heartily "I'm glad I introduced 'em. She's bloody good - don't tell her I said so o'course! I hear her husband entertained himself again - I admire a bloke who can do that. Stabbed a grav tank to death apparently? Crazy fekker - I swear he's got worse! I thought he was mad when he worked for me!"

Skeet grins massively around his stogie "This new crew that're in are hiring apparently. Smells good so far. At least it'll stop Duran whingeing on about the cost of the party. He ruddy swapped out the "G string quartet" - for people who play instruments!!! That's them sawing away in the background. I suppose it adds a bit of class. Just as well really - you'll never guess who's here! I've got some negotiations running on a partial retina print which might pan out. As it goes there's fun either way. I'll keep you posted. Might be worth spinning up one of your teams as a QRF. Get 'em up here just in case and they can take a barrel home when we don't need 'em".

This was a good place to be with enough high charisma floating about to make climbing the rungs in his new pack possible. He moved over to the bar to get a bowl of beer and then mingled in the crowd staying close enough to hear what was going on around the Aslan.

He noted the individual heraldry of the Aslan bannermen layered over their clan sashimono and there! At the bar stands a warrior who features in the tales of the Kforuzeng pirate band and Dzenae Ungogz, "Anuekhs An Gzoug - the Flame that Burns". He has heard the stories from the crew of the Raersthog (Revenge) of the female Sword World warrior who fights with insane fury and strength, laughing as she slays Imperials - and there she stands just a few yards away drinking ale and eyeing the party people. He was surely close enough to claim that he drank ale with Thursuthkvaehh - the Deathwalker!

"We are here evaluating what we have heard is among the best of the best in mercenary companies. One of my associates is looking to expand basic uplift and socio-technological services on an organized business basis throughout the District. Mercenaries from the individual level and up may be necessary given existing tensions in the area."

By Dzofin's frame of (applied) reference "Death on Legs" must be stunningly attractive in both human and raider terms but yet remains in isolation among the merc officers at the bar and so his approach interrupts her solitary brooding* contemplation of the party people. She responds by intoning "Hah, ale for the Vargr". She broods on a few moments more and then scrutinizes Dzofin "You look like a younger version of Patch.** I don't remember you from the Raersthog. So, are you family? Oh, and that is a nice outfit. I skimmed the IntComm so think I know where you got it... but I'm waiting for someone and so we have ale and time. Raider, tell me the saga of your spoils of war and we'll trade stories".

She drains her stein and wipes her mouth with the back of her hand smudging her lipstick "Barkeep, hurry up!" The barman mumbles "Countess, Colonel Skeet sorta suggested that, after the last time... you might like to lay off the strong ale... and try a refreshing spritzer" He casts a casual greeting smile at Dzofin and then his face freezes as he states "Ohhh, fffekkkk my old boots... not the ruddy two of you all at once!" He gropes under the bar to find and hurriedly strap on a safety helmet.

** Dzenae Ungogz does have an... ahem... "distinction" in his colouring over one eye but that's not a familiarity Dzofin would expect to use and... live. And he'd taken to brushing his own "distinction" into a more "diffuse" look - or so he thought...).

Although I did not specify our unit our edge is indeed sharp because it is honed at every opportunity but... so very few people have any inkling of the capabilities of the Consular Guard outside of very select units of the Imperial military that I must ask... if you have served, sir?*"

Context: William's read on this guy is that he is "military intense" (as per reasonably expected) and equally quite "professionally guarded" but otherwise guileless. * The emphasis he puts on sir is in no way accusatory but instead respectful of one who has served.

He adds "I am at most a soldier and so I will refer matters of "basic uplift and socio-technological services" to those more qualified to address them. However, these seem goals on a scale worthy of consideration as to "investment" in at least some manner by those interested in the concept".

"Chasing them out is a worthy endeavor by itself," Prerna replies with a cold smile. "We were able to put a dent in their Tarsus operation just a week ago. Regarding your project, or whatever you call it, we can find people who would do something useful with capital infusions. How much are you wanting to spend?"

"We can support any small or medium business. I'm not so much concerned about the money as what good the business will do."

Prerna glances at T'Lia. "So, money isn't a problem, then?"

"Honestly, no." Jaelah shrugs. "I can't buy a planet, but I can fund whatever is needed. My concern is that the investments will have unintended consequences."

Prerna thinks for a moment. "I don't think you will be able to avoid that. Even if you keep a low profile, such as using front companies to make the investments, someone will put it together soon enough. Which, I suppose is why you are talking to us."

Roscoe will nod at her words. “Our circumstances are… unusual. In addition to Jaelah’s good works, we will be setting up a mercantile business throughout the district and beyond. Based on the new business model, I expect that it will generate negative interest from corporations like SuSag.

“One member of our partnership is a leading scientist from Vincennes and his technology will disrupt things. It won't be long before word of it arrives here. We don’t want to cause destructive issues, but there will be people that do not want this to happen or wish to steal the technology for themselves.

“This isn’t the place to get into specifics, and we need to be sure that the secrets we have are protected. No offense meant, but we don’t know anyone in this field and I’m not even sure how to vet anyone to know that they are the right fit for us or will keep our secrets once they learn what we are doing if they don’t accept the contract. If only there were a how-to manual for this sort of thing.”

Walt leans in and whispers into Bona’s ear:

Kit is a human male in his middle thirties. He stand just under six feet (5'11'') and has short dark hair and brown eyes. He is dress in military fatigues and has a pistol on each hip, but they are both peace tied. Kit is a human male in his middle thirties. He stand just under six feet (5'11'') and has short dark hair and brown eyes. He is dress in military fatigues and has a pistol on each hip, but they are both peace tied. He is sitting up at the bar nursing his beer and appearing to mostly be staring ahead, but is watching the comings and goings of the people in the bar via the mirror.

Kit, together with everyone else, can't fail to notice the two striking Zhodani women who walk in hand in hand and dressed in distinctive style: their evening gowns contrast their hair colour and the pair are over six feet tall in their heels. Both have the long on top short at the back hairstyles favoured by those who wear flight helmets but while the argent hair of one is contrasted by her "uberblack" gown her companion's short sable hair is in turn contrasted with her silver dress.

The silver haired woman scans the room and then the bar giving a yelp of joy as she spots Kit and races across the room to embrace him"Ankit Ghoshal, you had me worried. I thought your position in the Valley of Tears might be overrun! At least just now you were checking your six..."
