Avastan Planning & OOC
Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Offers and options from 4DC
In general they can offer a mid tech+ vehicle or squad sized support unit of a specialist type (e.g. point defence, logistics, recovery, tech, strike, fire support direct or indirect).
Their Deep Recon squad is five guys in battledress who you'll never see. However, they can provide full ELINT, real time passive sensor Intel and an EW appreciation of a specified target. However, they are full on high tech Recon specialists - if they are shooting folk then they've had to step way beyond their mission parameters. Avastan is TL 10 - no one (including you) will ever know they were there.
The Grunt Class AFV is a family of task specific vehicles built on a common grav chassis. Overview: they are compact (4dt) so as to be optimised for interstellar transportation. The APC variant is a turreted transport for ten infantry plus two crew. It has TL14 avionics allowing a top sped of 1000kph, cruising speed of 750kph and NoE at 180kph. It has 5000km range radio and laser comms and active sensors (with HUD for the crew) to the same range. Defences include Electronic Masking, Laser sensor and a full range of expendables (sand/aerosol, smoke and flank mounted APERS system). Offensive armament is either the hard hitting PB-12 (Pen 54) or the more versatile RPA-12 (Pen 44 +2). The modest hull armour is rated at 35 so is proof against man portable plasma weapons and most mid tech RAM grenades. Bottom line: It is compact and light on armour but therefore cheap. It is not a main battle tank - it's a merc taxi! However, it has the sensor suite to stay out of trouble and pick its fights.
Layman's terms: on a mid tech battlefield you're riding around in a Gulf War Marine Corps AFV - in WW2.
Cost: just under 2.5MCr - so covering 4DC's 5MCr end you could have two.
Alternatively you could instead hire Tourmaline - she comes with all her own gear.

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
So if we want for the 2 vehicles we'd get to keep them? That's very tempting. We do need transport and it would stop us having to spend our limited cash on vehicles.
So Tourmaline is just herself and no helpers? Not that that isn't enough

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Yes, that would cover 4DC's contribution to the pro bono anti piracy mission.
And so the vehicles would be yours to repair and maintain.
Tourmaline isn't cheap (she's a Major in 4DC and their troopers don't get out of bed for less than 1MCr each) and she's also rumoured to be an ex-pirate.
Maybe she could be made a different offer?
You seem to have plenty of flexibility and goodwill with 4DC so some horse trading could be done on the deal or you could surely make a direct purchase from them.

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Again I guess it depends on money. We should get 300k for the Inchin job, plus whatever we can get for Gudrun's body plus hopefully money from the salvage.
It's a 5mil contract, but I'm guessing that with all the freebies and goodwill, plus the 'success only' stipulation it'll be difficult to get any of that up front.
Do we have any idea how much we might get for Gudrun (Liv might know)

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Yes you will be fully paid for the contract with the Diplomats.
Urvash's body/reward nets you a 100KCr bonus from the Imperial navy.
You could sell your claim on the corsair hull to Inchin for 7MCr (to use as an orbital monitor guarding the starport). Although this is selling the wreck cheap (as per its salvage value) the recovery and repair of the thing is going to prove highly problematic as it is effectively stranded at Inchin which has no orbital shipyard facilities. To restore the corsair to full use the repair costs are going to be significant (~ 50MCr???) and selling it gives working capital now.

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Thanks.
I say we sell the salvage rights. It's a short term answer, but we need the money now and don't have the money to put into repairing it for more money later. We got enough we need to invest money into without that kind of money pit.
That would give us 7.4mil to invest. I still think the better deal is to accept the vehicles and *if* we needed something else from 4DC we pay for it, hopefully spending less than 5mil on it.
EDIT: we ought to put some of this money aside for fixing up the Bartizan. Is 200k enough, or should make it a round 400k?

If we are intending to fix the Bartizan, it may be a good recruiting point for a combat engineer with Civil Engineering pretensions.

Two votes for cashing out on the corsair.
It relieves us of the headache and we're doing the new order on Inchin a favour.
Armouring 20 new troopers, two officers and an NCO is just shy of 1MCr BTW ( assuming we equip Gaughan's squad and hire a few more ).

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Good idea. It certainly needs investing in, multiple floors need fitting out, we need garage facilities, an improved medbay, plus teaching areas, all designed in such a way we can offer training to civilians but keep our areas secure.BackworldTraveller wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 4:44 pm If we are intending to fix the Bartizan, it may be a good recruiting point for a combat engineer with Civil Engineering pretensions.
Good to know an idea of cost. Is that equipping them with the same armour we use now? At one point we were talking about getting more combat armour. The Bindoner wrote:Armouring 20 new troopers, two officers and an NCO is just shy of 1MCr BTW ( assuming we equip Gaughan's squad and hire a few more ).
I guess we need to put together a list of what we need. No doubt we'll need to spend a bit on the new HQ gig and some decent EINTEL/EW gear. Including any specialists we need.

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Yes, that's for more of the Combat armour we already have ( Officers/SNCOs @ 87.2k, Troopers @ 36k each, - troopers have no upgraded optics. ) and a Chameleon CES for each too.
EDIT
It will cost 1200Cr each to upgrade the Troopers to long-range Laser comms - which gives us better comm security. Cheap.

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC

Should we consider rolling out those intravenous med units to SNCO's? What were they, 100k each?
EDIT: laser comms upgrade definetly worth it.

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
A couple more, sure.
Regarding upgrading the medical facilities:
We bought a Company Casualty Clearing Station for 20k, as a guide to upgrading the medical facilities. An Autodoc is 1MCr, Cryoberths 50K

Mmmm, autodoc. (said in the style of 'multipass' from Fifth Element)The Bindoner wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 5:10 pm A couple more, sure.

We should at least get those med units for the remaining officers, NPCs and new PCs alike. (I guess we recycle the one Skip has, so we'd need 4 more: Voss, Dubbs, Liv, Kit and Freya)

1) They are very good if you maintain a continuous line of sight
2) They are useless if you have no line of sight; and tend to transmit in all directions while looking for a link that has lost LOS.
3) They need the receivers location to be known to the transmitter in order for the link to be established...Which makes the tight-beam nature of the system less tight-beam while the system is scanning for potential matches
Laser comms are very useful if the users are static.
Fibre comms connectors are also very useful.

Note for the Quartermaster
Your loot from the Inchin job will give you five points of materiel* (two armour (from pirates and Guard), one weapons (ACRs), two ammo (ACR ammo and grenades).
You can either trade these or use them specific to type.
For example if you were to commit some or all to the Bartizan defence you will be able to equip either some B Echelon troops (use armour, ACRs, ammo) or a basic security force (use ACRs only and buy them flak jkts). Another possible use would be as bargaining chips/sweeteners with Mr Solomon or other (mid tech) mercs. Likewise you could maybe arm your new local gang neighbours or the cops.

Medical
Re: the Cas Clearing Stn I'm assuming you were able to replace your expended medical materiel by looting it back from the Mansion med bay.
The ambulance has four emergency low berths. If you installed the autodoc in it as well then you are pretty much at gold standard for medical care (less an actual medic). The Bindoner wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 5:10 pm Regarding upgrading the medical facilities:

Good points. We have the battle-computer to register locations, so there shouldn't be much searching.BackworldTraveller wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 5:23 pmLaser comms are worth it to a pointThe Bindoner wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 5:01 pmYes, that's for more of the Combat armour we already have ( Officers/SNCOs @ 87.2k, Troopers @ 36k each, - troopers have no upgraded optics. ) and a Chameleon CES for each too.

The system also extends range from 100km to 1000km
I'm not sure reels of fibre cluttering up the environment are a great asset, but they could help lost troopers find the HQ I suppose

I propose using one of each to equip base security, retaining the second ammo as a reserve, and either saving the second armour to trade later or trading it with Mr Solomon now. Though armouring our neighbours might be useful too...Your loot from the Inchin job will give you five points of materiel* (two armour (from pirates and Guard), one weapons (ACRs), two ammo (ACR ammo and grenades).

Medikits
Liv already has a medikit (it treated nearly all your casualties whilst set from "personalised" to "neutral").
You've seen how useful it is to keep people upright (and your high initiative squads running).

I think the original idea was pricing up the cost of a proper medical facility at the Bartizan, one that could operate as a private hospital/clinic for locals as well as a base facility for us, so it could earn its upkeep ( and maybe a profit too ).
