I haven't played 2e in awhile, so I'm considering something specifically 2e that I can't do in my 1e games. Like a gnome illusionist/cleric.....

This is all very exciting. Give me two weeks or so to read through all the potential kits I might use...
Let's see... War Bard? Elemental Rogue? Priest of Footnotes?... hmmm...

We ain't in no hurry > take yer time!
With the holidays and such, I figured we'd work on characters and get ready to launch maybe on 1/1/2020...or maybe a day or two sooner.

Ha. Yes, I for reals might need a little time to plan.
One thought so far: Dwarven Fighter/Chanter (Bard)? With a drum. That's something you can't do in 1e...
Hmmmmm...

I can envision that in my head. Such a character would have been handy with troop formations.

What is the starting XP? I thought I read it somewhere, but I can't find it. Or do we just start each class of our multi-class at just enough for level 2 in each class?

One more question (for now ).
I've leveled up in Chanter, which would allow me to cast a spell (or more precisely, a counter spell). How do I determine which spell(s) I know how to counter? Do I start with one known spell, or more than one, in my counter spell book?

Re: OOC 1 - A Place for Chattering, Planning, Questions & Go
The question is really just "how many known spells does a bard get in his spellbook at 2nd level?" Except in the Chanter's case it's knowing the spells not to be able to cast them, but to counter them.
The book suggests that the DM decides how many spell are known, though, as far as I can tell. From one to four in the case of starting Wizards. Bards? Not sure.

Now, as to exactly which ones, there are 45 options in the PHB.
I went to the online dice roller at Wizards and set the roller to roll 5 d10's -5 and here is what I got:
Roll(5d10)-5:
10,4,10,3,4,-5
Total:26
Roll(5d10)-5:
3,1,8,4,3,-5
Total:14
Roll(5d10)-5:
9,3,7,4,3,-5
Total:21
Those rolls correspond to the following spells in the PHB list:
14 = Detect Undead
21 = Grease
26 = Light
Not bad, so I reconfigured using 6d8's -3 and here is what I got:
Roll(6d8)-3:
1,3,3,5,8,6,-3
Total:23
Roll(6d8)-3:
2,2,2,2,2,5,-3
Total:12
Roll(6d8)-3:
6,5,1,2,8,8,-3
Total:27
Which corresponds to the following spells:
12 = Dancing Lights
23 = Hold Portal
27 = Magic Missile
I'll let you choose which list works best for your character. Because I'm nice like that.
