Expedition: Foxy/Monoc Mages - 15 October
Re: Expedition: Foxy/Monoc Mages - 15 October
Foxy O'Hare
Agrees with the copse plan. How far is it between the copse and the dale spot. I wonder on the thoughts of having someone or a pair of folk watching the Effigy and road from that spot, a bit more concealed than a whole group of us if it wasn't too far from the copse camp.

The copse is well out of bowshot from both the dale, the road, and the intersection. You could hear a yell if someone were in trouble, but it would take three rounds to run to their aid.

Gundri nods in agreement. "If this really is an efreet frozen in stone, I don't want to be nearby if and when it wakes up."

Roybarb
"Our elven trance sleep is but four hours long, so I can volunteer for some of the watch." she says, offering to cover the first few hours of camp guard duty. If so she will find a place out of the firelight glare so that her infravision will be useful in spotting lurking threats.

Roybarb okay, that is fine.
Re: Expedition: Foxy/Monoc Mages - 15 October
With an early sunset and two day's riding behind you, the party rides up into the hillside to the copse of trees the others scouted before. The settle into a dale within the treeline, concealing enough to allow a small campfire - warm food and comfort against the freezing night air. Roybarb takes the first shift, then after a few hours wakes Neegan, the others all asleep in their bedrolls.
It is coming up on midnight when the dwarf hears it - chanting on the wind. It is a rhythmic sound, multiple voices, carrying over the hillsides. Peering from the copse's edge, he can discern a flickering firelight shining upon the red stone effigy.

Hello All. New to Lab Lords so instruct me as needed. I have played 1st and 2nd edition D&D since their start so have plenty of RPG experience.
Falco brushes his pony and stakes him out for the night. Sets up his bedroll and sleeps for the night to regain all spells. Volunteering for the last guard shift to learn spells.

Is Roybarb the only one who can act at the moment?
Re: Expedition: Foxy/Monoc Mages - 15 October
Neegan (not Roybarb) is on watch. He can act first, but if he's away (and it looks like he is) then it's safe to assume he wakes you all.
Re: Expedition: Foxy/Monoc Mages - 15 October
Pendleton joins Neegan peering over the copse's edge, fascinated by the ceremony. He tries to make out what the voices are chanting, if he can.

Falco will gather his weapons and wait to see what the group decides to do.

dresses and follows after the elf Roybarb. Before she advances she appoints Tocen and Brielle to prepare to scout the road to the temple feature should the group by the Effigy make for that way.

Roybarb
Listens with intent to the repeated beat and chant. "It could be anything, mages invoking a ritual or kobold boy scouts having a sing song. Let's go closer to investigate."
Impetuous, she volunteers to creep closer, leaving her horse in the wooded copse to sneak to the hollow overlooking the road and effigy.
