CHAPTER 9: Return to the Tunnels, Part II
Re: CHAPTER 9: Return to the Tunnels, Part II
Denslow gets a bit sappy and says, I am saddened at Ron's death. I would offer him the rites of my people, but I know there is some controversy about those. Therefore, I will only say that I hope his death wasn't for nothing.
It doesn't take long for him to snap out of it though. He says to Belial, Can you sniff that that door over there? I think it is where they are keeping the part of our algae friend, but I don't want to barge in on a dozen of those bug things unprepared.

Farmanus the Unneeded
Farmanus fiddles with the pigmonn rifle. His soldier's training tells him, reminds him, then screams at him not to look down the barrel.

Belial knuckles over to the doorway in question. He sneezes mightily, then inhales with his mouth open, the better to pick up the scents.

Tunnel Complex, 300D/81 (Morning)
After arranging Ron’s body for eventual retrieval, MacMak takes the svetlegk and Farmanus dons the cyborg’s studded leather armor. The uberstrain human collects Ron’s gear and familiarizes himself with the pigmonn rifle. (He understands how to use the rifle)
Everyone moves north into the station stop and plans the next movement. Bruce performs self-repair (+2hp) and Silvestri psychically heals Farmanus. (+10hp)
Denslow asks Belial to smell around the side door, concerned that Thorax Scavengers might be on the other side. The winged baboon takes a deep draw through his nostrils and, after a minute or so, determines that no insect odor is present.

Re: CHAPTER 9: Return to the Tunnels, Part II
Kurot readies his rifle and places himself in a position to shoot at anything that jumps out—ideally without hitting any of his allies.

Tunnel Complex, 300D/81 (Late Morning)
Denslow, covered by Kurot, reaches and opens the metal door. It swings out to reveal a storage room with wooden and metal crates scattered about, some stacked on one another. The crates look old and worn. As indicated by the lack of dust or debris collected on their covers, they have recently been moved and used.

- (1) Pair of goggles made from silver, uncoated lightweight metal and artificial skin (rubber)
(3) Artificial bone (plastic) containers holding 36 smooth, 1/2” long pebbles. The pebbles are made from a chalk-like substance and are in three colors: yellow, green and brown.
(2) Metal trays with snap-on covers. These contain 12 strips of an unknown pliable material with a paper-like covering on one side and a metallic foil on the other. The strips are 2” wide, 10” long and 1/4” thick.
(32) Pieces of translucent colored bone (plastic).
(47) Various chunks and blocks of precious metals (gold, silver, copper)

Re: CHAPTER 9: Return to the Tunnels, Part II
These other things should be collected, they will have value in Hagleton, but I have a mission, says Denslow, and he hefts the crate carrying the fungal amoeba segment. I would help you, and will if help is needed, but I wish to make haste to return this to its owner.
He will pause to allow others to register and then he will make like a tree and get out of there.

Re: CHAPTER 9: Return to the Tunnels, Part II
"Do you want anyone to come with you, in case you are ambushed?" asks Kurot. If the tree says no, Kurot will start loading crates on the sled (or capsules; I forget what our latest conveyance was). At triple-speed, it shouldn't take long.
Edit: I just went back to remind myself of what's going on with the amoeba part, so I changed Kurot's response.

"Ooo, that's some pretty... stuff," remarks Farmanus with incomprehending admiration. "But it's not mine."
He nods thanks again at Silvestri and adds, "I'll go with Mr. Apples."

Dude- all this stuff and nothing to eat. Belial lets out a big, theatrical sigh and pitches in on the loading.
Do we need the crates, too?

Re: CHAPTER 9: Return to the Tunnels, Part II
Lets take the crates, so we can carry more stuff later, no?
Re: CHAPTER 9: Return to the Tunnels, Part II
A bundle is stronger than a single twig. If there are more roaches out there, I may need help fighting them off, agrees Denslow, so yes, please join if you can. I'm sure our amoeba friend will be glad to see us all.
Re: CHAPTER 9: Return to the Tunnels, Part II
"Redundancy and parallel systems improve reliability and performance," agrees Kurot. He sets down the crate he had just picked up and accompanies Denslow.
