A few quick thoughts:
  • So far, everyone has infravision, which is nice.
  • I admit, I will need to refresh my memory when it comes to 2e rules, but we have two spell casters (so far) who will likely need an uninterrupted 8-hours of sleep in order to recover spells. They will likely need to be part of a first/last watch situation; potentially not together.
    • (Question: I can't recall if elves in 2e sleep or trance, and whether that will affect their ability to recover spells?)
  • Tilthig, the rogue, seems like a possible candidate for scouting (especially since Bingo, the halfling fighter, is wearing heavy armor).

I actually was going to suggest he scout for the party.

He can Move Silently and if scouting ahead alone underground, is more apt to be silent and unseen as per his svirfneblin abilities.

Bingo isn't the super sneaky type but is hard to spot and very tough for someone his size. I need to finish his equipment and background. Does anyone know how many attacks someone specialized in Dart get? I can't seem to find it, the standard ROF is 3/round, so maybe 7/2?

I don't think you'd get that much

ROF is what you should use whish is 3 I think like you said

I believe only a warrior can have weapon specialization and that is for melee weapons, not ranged ones. ybn1197 can correct me if I am wrong :)

Jardin's information has been added above.

I believe he should be a level 2 fighter, though (you need 4,000 for 3rd level).

He is a straight fighter so can have weapon specialization by the rules. You can also be specialized in ranged weapons they have a chart with increased ROF for most ranged weapons, but Dart is missing. As a 3rd level fighter I can have 2 specializations or double specialized in a melee weapon. If I don't get a bump in ROF I might just go with double in the short sword, I already get +1 with the Dart for Halfling and another for Dex so will be decent no matter what.

Well the double in short would give you +1 Hit +3 dmg, right? Isn't that pretty sweet?

Yup, add another +1 damage for my Str and another +1 to hit and damage for my +1 short sword and he is dangerous fighter, especially in close quarters. Bingo and Tilthig make a deadly duo in a confined space.

I somehow missed it but the chart for specialist attacks per round has the Dart ROF as 4/round for a specialist and +1 to hit +2 to damage so I am going to keep it and short sword single specialized. If I toss 4 darts on round 1 of an encounter at +3 to hit and 1d3+3 damage I have a good chance of doing decent damage. My short sword will be +2 to hit and 1d6+4 damage.

Did we agree a marching order, apart from Tilthig up from then Bingo?

I'm flexible as to Thir's location, although his dwarven abilities with stonework would probably be useful near the front.

It does not appear so. I would offer the following:

Marching Order: 5-foot (Short > Tall)
  • 1) Tilthig
    2) Bingo
    3) Thir
    4) Celionas
    5) Jardin

Marching Order: 10-foot (Short > Wizard > Tall)
  • 1) Tilthig | Bingo
    2) Celionas
    3) Thir | Jardin

Sleep Watches (8-hours)
  • I'll admit, I can't recall in 2e how many hours a wizard and cleric will need in order to recover their spells, so these will still need to be figured out. Most likely, the casters that need uninterrupted sleep will need to bookend the shifts.

That looks good, Bingo can take whatever shift he is needed on so the casters can rest.

I've updated the top post with the marching orders.

We can continue to discuss the sleep watches... or just wait for that situation to arise and deal with it then.
