008 - Launch ride out to the ruins

Vee climbs aboard the launch and completes the preflight checklist. Then, she keys in Foix's personal comm code. "The launch is ready to fly, my lord." She smiles at the honorific, but she is sincere in bestowing it on him.

Foix listens to the Intel the team has gathered and then replies "Well, it seems that if we wish to discover more of this temple we must find out for ourselves!"

With that he dons his vacc suit and gathers his weapons ready for the recon flight.

Ok, so who all is boarding the launch? What is the plan?

While Lady Alicia is definitely interested in exploring the ruin, she would appreciate your scouting things out first before she joins you. If you give the all clear, she will come over in the Air/Raft.

Vee is piloting the launch.

(OOC: We don't really have that much to go on so "fly over and look" is the broad plan! We know there is danger from radiation so we need to take portable geiger counters and rely on our vacc suits for protection from the hostile environment).

Foix says to Vee "We have little enough knowledge save the image of the temple and its location. Let's take a very careful approach, spiral in and then see if we can overfly the missing team's approach route to the temple. If we match our approach to the aspect of the temple shown in the image we can perhaps confirm that they at least made it inside".

He looks to the team "I suggest that we use our onboard sensors to survey the area both on approach and before we set down but I have no specialist knowledge of alien matters. Sara is there anything else we should do? Ana can you improve the plan for the approach?"

(OOC: Task/skill check. Foix to plan the safest approach given the terrain with the optimum opportunity for aerial recon. Tactics 2 plus relevant knowledge Air Raft 1).

The shuttle will protect you from radiation during the flyover as long as you don't have the cargo door open (even then, the shuttle bridge/passenger compartment would still be safe).

I'll wait to resolve anything until tomorrow, see if anyone else has any input.

Sara shakes her head. "Not much except what you've already said: getting a good scan of the area for anything detectable. The rest is footwork." She smiles over at Vee. "I'll try not to back-seat drive"

While the others discuss the flight, Lady Harper collects the portable geiger-counter and a vacc-suit, before popping to her room to get her gun and commicator.

Foix sits himself next to Harper and confides “Lady Harper, I now recall that I owe you an apology. Whilst I was on leave from La Legion we both attended a family ball. I happened upon yourself and a man who was not a gentleman. You were … indisposed at the time. He put forward a very abrupt argument that I should take my interference elsewhere and produced an appalling excuse for a knife”.

Foix smiles “I was just out of my first tour of duty in the jungle and I was young and much less handsome” He pauses for effect “No, it’s true - ask Ana” then continues. “I made myself known to him during the course of which his nose was broken again and he suffered an amount of pain and indignity. I then offered to pursue our difference of opinion with swords. He ran away without ever giving me his name. With the wisdom of hindsight I realise I may perhaps have misunderstood matters so I apologise if I caused you any trouble”.

Harper smiles at Foix

"To be honest, I don't remember the incident, but knowing the kind of people I associated with at the time I'm sure he deserved it. So no apology is necessary, although I do appreciate you making the effort."

Foix relaxes and leans back against the hull of the launch “Bien! In my youth matters often seemed entirely simple - I now have the wisdom to realise that they rarely are!”

He smiles and continues amiably “As to your earlier associates, Lady Harper, remember you are talking to a Legionnaire! The men and women I served with were hardly saints! Nevertheless, cousin, I remain at your service”.

Foix seems to radiate a contained yet restless energy, he excuses himself to step over to the portly Grimaud who looks entirely uncomfortable in his vacc suit. “Ça va, Boudin?” The chef nods and forces a smile.

Between them Foix and Grimaud carried on a large military holdall containing their weapons.

We wouldn't want to be without her and after all IC indications I believe she was keen to come along.

Vee pilots the launch to the site, following the instructions given her.

Who is riding in the right seat with Vee?

TGM: What's the air traffic control system like out here? (Full radar coverage, radio reports only, mandatory communications in certain areas, etc.)?

Foix will suggest Sara as the obvious candidate. He clearly sees himself as payload and I think we need Harper in the back near the drives (just in case!). He will find the loadmaster's safety line so he can secure himself to the launch if needs be.

(OOC: Shame really he and Vee could have got a classy sun visor printed with their names on! )

Sara waves him off with a smile.

"No, go ahead. Vee's got this one, I think. And maybe I won't get harassed about my driving" She pauses to give Ana a mock glare. "If I'm not even on the controls."

Harper settles in the passenger area in the back with Foix and the others. Before they leave she checks her gun and makes sure her communicator is configured for the launch and yacht.

"With the radiation and whatever the building is made of who knows what comms will be like"

"Sara," Vee calls from the cockpit. "Could you give me a hand up here, please?"

Ana sits quietly in the back of the launch watching the sensor data carefully as it cascades across the screen of her datapad. She’s already poured herself into her vacc suit and absently drums on her helmet with her fingernails.

“Do we have a densitometer?” She asks no one in particular. “Might be nice to know what’s going on inside there.”

Ana pulls up any images they have of the site and looks them over carefully.

Sara glances up to the cockpit.

"Ah well, it was worth a try." She looks at Ana. "Just remember that she's the one actually flying this boat.

Sara, makes her way up into the cockpit and takes the copilot chair, strapping in. "Hard to be a backseat driver if you make me sit in a front seat" She quips to Vee.
