Terryk will provide light while Ralph gets out his rope to help Luke examine the pit

Loretta elbows Buckminster, "Come on handsome, help me check out these tunnels" as she heads over to look at the two tunnels to the south snake body. Buckminster shrugs and follows (thinking if they find treasure, he'll get a bigger cut if they are on their own)

...

Zeek is momentarily startled at the sight of the dead snake. After gathering his wits, he, Tiberius, Anne & Sir Honkalot move west to find the others. They navigate the natural passage to a three-way intersection and then Anne lets fate decide their course, and releases Sir Honkalot.

Sir Honkalot; 1 = N, 2 = S [1d2] = 2

The goose waddles into the south corridor just as Derrek, Knuckles and Einstein appear in front on the group. All six follow the prophetic goose into the south tunnel. After a 20ft winding path, the passage naturally narrows and terminates into packed earth and sandstone. The floor is covered with sand that has eroded from the walls and 10ft high ceiling but shows no indications of having been worked by pick or shovel.

LePlank continues to guard the secret door and watch for any activity from beyond the barred door.

Arya inquires with Luke, Ralph and Terryk about the nature of this corridor. The group decides to lower Luke down the inclined floor, so he may investigate how Arnie met his demise.

Ruby seeks an answer to the conditions of the sub-floor chamber, but does not receive a response.

Luke reaches the bottom of the floor and look over the edge. A pit drops 10ft into a bed of 18in long iron spikes, that have impaled Arnie. His lifeless body flickers with shadows from the lost torch that continues to burn at the bottom of the pit.

Loretta and Buckminster investigate the remaining tunnels, using Loretta’s torch. The western tunnel goes in beyond 20ft, and a reflective surface is on the floor. The eastern passage splits after 20ft and continues into two, narrow natural corridors. Loretta’s torchlight illuminates the entire eastern end of the partially worked chamber, revealing a hole 15ft above in the ceiling.

The 14ft long dead snake appears to have been killed within the last few months. It still has a slight odor of decay.

LePlank sees a faint flicker of light coming from beyond the bars to the east.

"i knew it! Sir Honkalot is guiding us to safe places" says Anne, as she does a strange ritualistic sign with her new holy symbol.

"Well, that will not get us rich, lady!" say Tiberius. "Lets go to the dead snake way" (the first south path, from west to east)

LePlank start to shiver. "ohboyohboyohboy". He must be sure something is coming, and alert Ruby of his finding. He try to open his ears and eyes for more clues.

Zeek just follow along

Knuckles and Einstein will back the train up, and move to the room with the dead snake. They will go down the western tunnel in the south wall, keeping a hand on the "right" wall, as they gp. Einstein encourages the big group to spread out and check all the tunnels quickly, rather than bunching up.

Luke lets the others know that there is nothing to see, and climbs back up. He then claps his hands together, and suggests they use the rope to gain access to the locked room... they can tie one end off on the gate, and toss the other end down the hole in the locked room to the people below!

Hearing the others returning, Loretta and Buckminster head down the western tunnel to examine the odd floor.

Ralph and Terryk help Luke with his plan.

Arya looks into the pit. Is there any way we could climb the other side?
Derrekmoves to the area under the opening. He is ready to climb up into the barred room as soon as the rope is secured.
Ruby stands near the barred opening, watching the rope get secured and passed into the pit. Clearly, she's waiting for someone else to do the work.

Anne, Tiberius and Zeek leave the dead-end passage and return to the main chamber with the dead snake. From there, they proceed into the western corridor to explore.

LePlank moves to watch Luke secure the rope to the bars.

Knuckles and Einstein join the first three into the west passage. Einstein encourages simultaneous exploration of multiple tunnels, but his opinion garners no support.

Luke ties the rope to the bars blocking the east hallway and, after a few attempts, tosses the coiled rope into the hole across the room.

Loretta and Buckminster follow the others into the western tunnel.

Ralph and Terryk assist Luke, where necessary.

Arya peers towards the spiked pit, searching for a means to cross it. The rest of the group departs for the barred hallway and her infravision takes over. Even with elven dark vision, no apparent means to cross is visible. (Die roll by DM)

Derrek moves the east end of the chamber and stands under the ceiling hole. He steps aside as a rope falls from above. He grabs it and pulls it taut. A flicker of light shines through the hole from somewhere above.

Luke, LePlank and the others see the rope pulled into the hole until it stops, securely tied to the bars. A light source flickers off the walls adjacent to the floor opening.

Ruby stands and watches, not wanting to do any work.

Anne enters a 15ft x 15ft natural, semi-circular room and stops at the entrance. A dark pool of water occupies the center of the room, allowing for a narrow 2ft path around the edge. Her torchlight reflects off the surface of the clear, yet dark water.

Anne’s halt to movement backs-up the line of people out into the main chamber.

Loretta frowns as the others push them and head down the tunnel. She gestures to Buckminster and leads him down the adjacent tunnel, taking the left tunnel at the fork.

Anne holds sir Honkalot above her head and say "BEHOLD, my brethren. The powers of the one true god will show up right now!"
And then, she throws the goose into the water. "The holy bird will purify this", she say in a strange squeaky voice

LePlank gets his dart ready, waiting for something monstrous to appears

Zeek fears the sacred women. If she invoke a true god right here right now, the deity could know all of his sins. And they are a lot.

Tiberius is skeptical, so he will dip the tip of his staff into the dark water

Einstein and Knuckles will back up out of the crowded tunnel, and go over to climb up the rope that got dropped into the room with the snake.

Luke will stay where he is, making sure the rope stays secure.

Arya Seeing no easy way past the pit, she rejoins the folks near the barred opening.

Derrek hesitates, torn between his cowardice and greed. He lets the others go first, but scampers up the rope quickly, ready to grab a share of any wealth that may be found.

Ruby fidgets at her place near the middle of the hallway, unsure of what's happening.

Loretta and Buckminster move down the left fork of the adjacent tunnel. They enter a 10ft x 15ft natural cavern with the desiccated remains of an animal scattered across the floor.

Anne ceremonially tosses Sir Honkalot into the water. The startled goose honks and then lands in the pool with a ”SPLASH”. The waterfowl then takes to its new environment and swims effortlessly around in circles.

LePlank prepares against anything monstrous from beyond the bars.

Zeek remains at the back of the group, not trusting the spirits surrounding Anne.

Tiberius dips his staff into the waters. The dwarf examines the liquid as it drips off the tip. The clear water puddles on the floor and trickles back into the pool.

Einstein and Knuckles climb the rope dropped by Luke. They reach the chamber beyond the bars, and see the group huddled on the other side. Derrek joins them, and they stand and observe their surroundings.

  • An iron grate partially covers the floor opening. The trio must slide it over when they climb up through the hole. The grate is the same size as the hole, and it appears to have been moved in the recent past. A rotted rope hangs from a circular hole in the ceiling. Remnants of a rope are tied to the grate, indicating it was once connected to the ceiling rope.

A rusted wheel mechanism stands from the floor to the ceiling, 6ft above the floor. It is anchored to stone pockets in both. Knuckles’ torch illuminates a 5ft wide corridor leading out to the north that opens into a room after 25ft.

To the north of the barred door is a small recessed chamber in the west wall, with an iron lever anchored at knee level (for a human).

Arya joins the group in the hallway with the barred door, who are watching Einstein, Knuckles and Derrek in the room beyond.

Derreklifts his candle to light the room better. He searches for any sign of hidden treasures, almost immediately finding the lever. He studies it, trying to determine if it opens a secret panel or the barred door. When Arya shouts, he startles, then pulls the lever.

Arya yells from her spot in the crowd, Open the bloody door!

Ruby seems to have zoned out.

"Another successful act of the holy goose!", say Anne. She carefully collect the animal back. Lets check the remain of this place?

Tiberius try then to see how deep this pool is. Maybe they hid a treasure chest in here or something.

Zeek decide to follow the other two. They seem to have more wisdom

Ignoring the door, Knuckles will experiment with the rusty wheel. Does it turn? Does turning it cause the rotted rope to move, or something else?

Einstein tries to slide the grate back into place, and tests if it will support some weight.

If the gate opens, Luke will enter, and give Knuckles a hand with the wheel.

Derrek momentarily searches for treasure before focusing on the wall lever. He pulls the lever forward, hearing and feeling a mechanical scraping, then the portcullis raises 6in. Derrek resets the lever and pulls again. Each pull raises the barred door 6in until it stops just short of the ceiling, leaving the rope tied to it.

Arya’s request is heeded, and the barred door slowly raises.

Buckminster examines the remains on the cavern floor. The carcass appears to be a dead weasel that died from unknown causes, years ago.

Anne calls to the goose and he returns to the edge of the water.

Tiberius continues to probe the depths of the pool with his staff.

Zeek looses confidence in Anne and Tiberius. He turns to leave the cavern.

OOC: rossik, roll initiative.

Knuckles tries to turn the rusty wheel pillar. He pushes his entire weight against it, but it does not budge.

Einstein slides the grate back into the hole, and it seats into a ledge around the perimeter of the opening. He carefully places his foot, then half his weight and determines the grate will hold when in place.

OOC: The grate isn't completely seated into the hole, because the rope from the barred door still hangs through.

Luke moves through the open barred door and assists Knuckles with the pillar mechanism. With Luke’s help, the wheel device slowly turns and then stops; stuck. The rotted rope hanging from the ceiling jiggles and moves until the wheel stops.

Luke observes "This doesn't seem much loderr a tomb... it seems like somebody was breeding weasels..."

Einstein continues the thought "...or snakes"

Knuckles then leads the three of them north, into the tunnel.

If Buckminster can see nothing else of interest in the cavern then he and Loretta will head down the other turning.

Ralph and Terryk will follow the others into the northern tunnel

Arya excuses herself to the front of the crowd in the corridor, then moves through the room with the grating and the lever. She begins a slow, careful search of the corridor heading north- being especially watchful for tripwires and booby traps.

Derrek mopes around in the room, scuffing his feet on the floor and poking at every knob and crevice in the walls. All these tunnels, and not a speck of gold... he grumbles.

Ruby holds her place near the back of the crowd, doing a halfhearted job of rear guard.
