005 - Departure from Shedezar star port

“Vee, the worst thing that’ll happen is you’ll get tangled half way down and your picture will end up posted as a warning on every starport message board in the sector.” Ana laughs for a moment before sticking her regulator in her mouth and testing her air system.

She grins and gives Sara, Foix and Vee a thumbs up, “Good to go!” Ana says the regulator still stuck in her mouth.

"It's all so simple," Vee deadpans. "Silly me." She smirks at Foix. "I suppose it's too late to ask if you consider me a friend." She tugs at the ring for the rope. "I hope the warranty is still good on this. If it breaks, I plan to demand my money back."

Foix smiles and leaning in towards Vee ... carefully secures a strap on her harness and checks the ring. He seems to be taking his time with the examination when he fixes Vee with his piercing blue eyes and makes his reply. He is so close to her that she can pick up his scent and that of his gear and weapons – a note of gun oil cut through with cologne. He speaks softly “Madame Vee, it could be said that if I have a natural environment it is in being this close to beautiful women. You see, I have a terrible weakness for beauty, and must seem fated to recklessly loose my heart time and again”.

He seems to be moving imperceptibly closer but then stops and now Vee can see the sorrow hidden deep within his blue eyes as he speaks with gentle resolve “My word and my honour mean that presently I can be nothing more to you than your protector. You could release me from those bonds with a word but for now they demand that I warn you that I live within a curse of my own making - my heart is broken and my love already forfeit to another. Madame, I would not cause one such as you any pain and would be honoured if you counted me a friend”.

Vee colors under her dark complexion, and looks down at her hands. Her shoulders slump, and she takes a breath to compose herself. "I am sorry, Foix," she says quietly. "I don't mean to cause you trouble. I just thought..." She shrugs helplessly and looks at him. "Yes, I would be honored to be your friend. I won't be any trouble, I promise."

Foix earnestly replies “Vee, I have troubles of my own but they are not your burden and you have nothing to apologise for. The apology should be mine. Had I not been so forward then I would not have had to swear an oath”.

He then smiles regretfully “You must understand that whatever we may have both imagined can not now happen while the Comte de Foix is sworn to defend your life and honour. I am now bound by that same oath to remind you that whatever thoughts you may have must be informed by the reputation of General Gauvain Foix formerly of La Legion. Unfortunately for me Ana is on hand to give you first hand tales of my past debauchery but perhaps there are reasons for how I am”.

Foix hefts his pack “For now we have a job to do - so Madame I ask for your patience”.

He needs to lose that fight.

Vee takes a breath, straightens her spine, and nods once. "Yes, of course." She is a dichotomy of an officer and a young woman; both professional and shyly determined at the same time. She locks her gaze on his and smiles. "We will talk more on this later."

She gestures to the equipment. "What do I do next?"

Foix replies “There is a lot to explain and even more to accept but for now clip on to your rappelling line and wait for my command. When the ship is on station we drop our lines to the ground. You are the mission specialist so you wait for Chu and I to secure the drop zone then rappel down. Grimaud will then lower the gear on the winch. We detach all our lines and stand clear and the ship moves off”

Foix turns to Chu “Ready Colonel? On my call if you please”.

He clips himself to his rappelling line and focuses on the mission ahead.

"Aye, sir," Vee replies reflexively. She clips onto her rappelling line, verifies that it is attached properly to the ship, and rigged correctly on her belt, and awaits the time to jump.

Chu gives a lazy salute with his index finger and readies his gear. "I'm good to go. I'll sweep the zone along the starboard side of the ship if you sweep port."

He does a quick stretch to limber up for the rappel, then straps in his SMG so it stays in place against his chest during the descent.

The above crew positions sound good.

It is Wen's ship so he should take the risk of scratching the paint on the rock pinnacle .

Andy should surely plot the Nav course, hand it to Pongo to execute and then cover Engineering?

Chu is the extra guy on the installation team.

It's more of an active role on Navigation. Engineering should be routine so, you could have Pongo cover (he does have Jack of all Trades)... Of course you also had the misjump... But you're not jumping just yet...

Hmm, Wen definitely will pilot, but we never established is Andy navigating with Pongo covering engineering with J-o-a-T or is Pongo navigating?

i don’t know if we ever firmly established it or not. Pongo will cover any station that needs coverage.

“This should be fun, pretty much nothing ever goes wrong when those words are uttered.” Ana grins her hand poised above the button to open the starboard cargo hatch.

Ana filps her coms, “Don’t forget to scan the location on a first pass Wen, anything looks off and we can abort and don’t forget to tell us when we’re there.”

Foix simply nods to Chu and confirms “I will sweep portside”.

With that he picks up his own SMG, loads it and checks that the sound suppressor is securely fitted. He then folds the stock and secures the weapon to his right thigh for the drop. He then checks his automatic is secure in its shoulder holster and the knife on his chest rig is accessible for any mishaps during the descent.

He then pulls on his green Legion beret and raises his voice “Alors, mes enfants!” he shows his karabiner to both Chu and Vee and adds “Hook up!” Ensuring both are attached to their rappelling lines he then waves them forward to take post behind the dive team at the starboard hatch.

Catching Ana’s eye he smiles, meets her gaze for a moment and then simply nods.

Infant is about right, Vee thinks as she takes up position at the end of the line behind Foix. She swallows to calm the flutter in her stomach that has little to do with being close to "her" general. She glances at Sara and hopes that she is having better luck with "her" general. She tightens the line to help hold her upright as the ship bobs in the turbulent air. The grav plates help with the worst of it, but some of the movements are too quick for the ship to compensate. The soldiers were relaxed, and Vee envies their sangfroid as the jump time draws closer. I bet they aren't worrying about personal things right now, she berates herself. Get a grip.

Wen holds the ship steady over the island and the monitoring station install team drops down to start the install. Wen then shifts the ship slightly to drop the divers into the water. Squee glides down first with her grav belt to check out the situation in the water, she pops up and gives an ok for the others to drop in. Ana secures the guideline to the rock outside the cave entrance and starts in. Do you want Squee to lead or does Ana want to lead?
