004a - Shedezar grocery shopping

Once their gear is stowed aboard ship Grimaud and Foix need to do some high end food shopping. Foix will go along unless he's required on board the ship.

He and Foix will fetch their gear and discretely bring it aboard. The reason for their care becomes clear as it appears that between them they own a small arsenal of weapons. These will be temporarily unloaded into the passenger lounge pending storage elsewhere. Grimaud immediately transfers a collection of specialist cookware and his own chef’s knives to the galley before setting off to buy provisions.

Vee accompanies him, adding her own items to the collection.

For those taking either an interest (or quite reasonable concern) the weaponry held within the various holsters and carry cases are a squad automatic weapon on a bipod with belted and magazine fed ammunition, a bolt action sniper rifle with advanced sights, two SMGs and numerous handguns. A number of silencers are available for the smaller calibre weapons. Sitting incongruously atop all else is a basket hilted rapier with a cut and thrust blade. A pair of Vacc suits, a large medical kit and what might be camouflage gear make up the bulkier items in the pile.

Foix closes the bolt on an SMG he was inspecting and replies “At least not all at once, Madame Vee!" He smiles reassuringly "Like Grimaud’s knives and pans these are just the tools of a trade. We will have the right one for the task should we need it”.

He puts the weapon down and his smile becomes broader “However, for now we are on the hunt for fine food! In the places Grimaud shops there is as much illuminating discussion as tasting and sampling”. He lowers his voice in mock conspiracy “In truth I believe he despairs of my jaded palette and just brings me along to carry things. I know he would delight in a reliable second opinion and your presence would brighten our trip beyond measure. Will you accompany us on our adventure?”


Noting that Vee has her own cookery equipment Grimaud excitedly asks "Do you have an interest in cooking Mistress Vee?"

"I'm certainly not trained, but I do know how to prepare a few dishes" Vee smiles. "I'm ready to go shopping if you are."

Vee has a blushing Grimaud’s rapt attention “I would love to see you prepare your dishes … er … if you don’t mind that is”. He is clearly passionate about food and entirely grateful to talk about it with a fellow cook.

Foix accompanies them as they leave the ship but, perhaps surprisingly, remains quieter letting the smaller man indulge his favourite subject.

Once they have cleared the star port tarmac Foix hails a cab.

(OOC: Assuming we have some distance to cover to get to the high end foody shops of downtown Shedezzar).

(OOC: As far as shopping goes Foix and Grimaud are prepared to pay up to 1000Cr each to put on a high end meal for the team. I presume a sizeable portion of the "value" of a such a meal on the plate is added by the chef's skill / restaurant's need to make a profit - both of which are discounted in this case. I have sourced a menu (from the Savoy!) which I will reveal ... when dinner is served It is an expense but presumably it keeps Grimaud's hand in to work with expensive ingredients and is effectively a "buy in" for the job).

A cab is quickly hailed and you ride into town and start shopping for food.

Vee stocks up on the ship's standard menu items, replenishing what was used during the trip. She adds more non-perishable and easy-to-prepare foods to the larder, in anticipation of another misjump. (Think the equivalent of canned tuna and such, things you'd stock for disaster preparedness.) She ends up with a heavily burdened shopping cart piled high with food. "I think we will need something larger than a cab."

Foix makes himself useful helping to manage the piles of supplies.

Grimaud seems knowledgeable and very much in his element when dealing with the high end food vendors. He too ends his trip with what amouts to a less full but more expensive looking cartful of supplies. His has crates of wine, a disposable ice filled carry box for his fish order and various other hand wrapped parcels as well as loosely contained veggies.

Foix hires a cab for each team member and having loaded and dispatched the first phones the ship to ask for assistance unloading.

Vee rides with the first cab, and begins to stow the items aboard ship.

Foix sends Grimaud back with cab #2. On arrival he delivers his purchases to the galley and, pausing only to change into his chef's whites, cheerfully sets to with a will in the kitchen. He moves with an economy of effort and has clearly already formulated an intricate plan to facilitate the delivery of his meal as scheduled.

Grimaud will speak to Vee "This is an important dinner for me. Tonight I represent both the Legion in a debt of honour and myself as a chef. I would gratefully appreciate any help or advice you can give me".

Foix brings up the rear in the third cab and on arrival helps Vee with her provisions. He then stows both Grimaud's gear and his own before preparing the lounge for the meal. He cleans the room and then deals with the table and the place settings. By the time he's finished the room is meticulously "squared away". He calls in on the busy Grimaud and when the chef takes a break they share a cognac. Foix otherwise manages to assist the chef whilst keeping out of his way.

Foix laughs "Not at all - indeed I had planned to travel without my title. Had I not encountered General Jones I would have done. However, I felt I owed you the truth of the matter, Captain".

"Thanks." Wen says then adds, "I'm perfectly happy to forget your title and background until you tell me differently. Is that okay with you?"
