OOC Random Discussion
Re: OOC Random Discussion
Faanku, Nathan with a DEX A (10) has advantageous DEX for all firearms except Body Pistol and Laser Rifle. He could also embark on self improvement and if he succeeds in starting the program, he could immediately have a weapon skill or two at level-1. Rifle, Auto-Rifle, SMG, and Laser Carbine give a +2 for advantageous DEX (which applies for to hit and would mean an 6+ roll to start self improvement - there's nothing like a little firefight to start self improvement...). And if you spend 750cr per year on training tapes (I'd let you retroactively purchase these) you get a +1 (so as long as you keep those up for 4 years, if you rolled a 5 for self improvement, you would keep the +1 and at the end of 4 years, the improvement becomes permanent).
Re: OOC Random Discussion
Keeping this rambling clear of the main thread ...
Here may be a solution to the damage issue: the Dragonsfoot die roller!
Hail Tiglath Pileser, and well met!
9:56pm 2019-9-27 Tiglath Pileser Has entered the room
Tiglath Pileser: test
Tiglath Pileser: /roll 3d6
Tiglath Pileser rolls 3d6 and gets: 6, 6, 2, = 14
Tiglath Pileser: /roll 3d6-3
Tiglath Pileser rolls 3d6-3 and gets: 2, 6, 3, (-3) = 8
It probably only applies to those greedy powergamer types that abuse autofire weapons overmuch ...
I'll be using this for damage from now on if that's OK?
Confession time - I forgot to load Grimaud's ID onto some of his later to hit rolls but since he couldn't actually miss it's probably no great calamity.
And we were mis-sold on those Laser Rifles!!! We thought they were carbines!!! We're pursuing non violent conflict resolution here and you give Laser Rifles out like confetti!
As for Nathan my recollection was that he was Doc Holliday with an SMG!
Well worth shopping around for weapons in Bk 1 combat. Accessing the weapon type may be more value than over specialising - especially if high Dex gives a bonus/effective extra skill levels.
As has been ably demonstrated in this firefight turning up in the "wrong" armour or getting hit at a weapon's optimum range can really, no really, spoil your day! These circumstantial DMs often massively outweigh a skills bonus. It's a "right tool for the job" thing.

Re: OOC Random Discussion
Oops, I did say Laser Carbine... I would have caught it when I went to do the attack and damage rolls for the spiders...
I will try and do those this evening. Today went crazy.

Re: OOC Random Discussion
Of course, I jest!
They are whatever they are.
In a bad light the Laser Carbine has a profile oft confused with the FGMP-15 ...

Re: OOC Random Discussion
Random question... Is anyone aware of any poison rules for Classic Traveller?
Re: OOC Random Discussion
The only poison rules I am aware of are none official TNE rules in https://index.rpg.net/display-entry.phtml?mainid=7468
Re: OOC Random Discussion
There was a whole raft of them in the Dragon "Best of" specials (I believe). Rather than save vs. a specific effect the poisons all did varying amounts of HP damage - some all at once and some over time. The concept would map onto Traveller's stat damage quite readily.
Re: OOC Random Discussion
We use the Traveller Eras/Years or not? If yes, what is the date?
Re: OOC Random Discussion
No, my setting has nothing to do with the official setting. And sorry, I gave the wrong world, you're at Arthiop.RotFuchs wrote:We use the Traveller Eras/Years or not? If yes, what is the date?
The PCs arrived year 1231 day 085. I have neglected to advance the date, it's at least a day or two past that.
Re: OOC Random Discussion
see the character rollups thread for a question about a new PC coming in with a Type J Seeker.
Re: OOC Random Discussion
I'm open to suggestions on gear to get. Larry is more the investment type, his original plan was to work passage on a ship and rent spec cargo space, buying small cargoes he could afford and reducing his overhead. Mostly a mental exercise for me to work the merchanting rules and actually make money at them. Once I was in a "merchant" game where the DM really didn't get the idea of merchanting. I made more money during the months spent at the game than my highly skilled and funded merchant character.
Re: OOC Random Discussion
I'd say personal gear, weapons that sort of thing or maybe anything to enhance your PC. Anything else in the way of expendables or gear / kit is likely to be "on the (noble) House".
Re: OOC Random Discussion
Hey all, I just wanted to say "thank you" for getting me playing in the game so fast. I've been needing something like this.
Re: OOC Random Discussion
Are you also going out of your freakin mind with the lockdown?
Re: OOC Random Discussion
Close, but not quite. Fortunately for me I've been working from home for almost 11 years and I still have my job, so that aspect of my life really hasn't changed. Having the kids home 24x7 and not being able to have a babysitter and get out for a date night has been a drain though.Ramona wrote:Are you also going out of your freakin mind with the lockdown?
Re: OOC Random Discussion
Oh, yes, I forgot to include gaming. The weekly Roll20 gaming is a big help.Tiglath wrote:I'm sure gaming has helped me battle the monotony.
Re: OOC Random Discussion
I've only been working from home for a year or so, probably need to talk to ffilz about those long term gigs.
Gaming is good, and I write fiction. Which mostly means paying editors and book cover designers while trying to wrangle something weird into something readable by the general population.

I write, but I’m neurotic and self conscious about it. Can’t write with other people in the house, which is never so itKs difficult and I can’t get past a short story or first chapter because I edit obsessively.
I’ve been on vacation for a week now and I’m going absolutely spare. Back to work tomorrow, yay!

Re: OOC Random Discussion
There is a brain shift that happens when you write the last line of your first novel. I can't really explain it, but you change at a very deep level. A positive change. Check the link in my signature if you want some blog posts to help. Writing is difficult; my first drafts are lousy. Even I can't read them without thinking the author was an idiot. However, my brain has shifted and I see the potential. Editing and revision come later. Story comes first.Ramona wrote:I write, but I’m neurotic and self conscious about it. I was in a Traveller game that lasted four years. My first published book dealt with a couple of the kids from the PCs. The second book should be out this fall, and the other books are in process. It can be done!
