Final Order!

By the way after getting a good chunk of the way through the design process. I decided that an illusionist (as much as I love them) probably isn't a great fit. Aklenor is now a boring old MU.

So rather than wait for everyone to log in and make their choices if you want you can send me a list of your preferences in order, or at least as many of your preferences as you picking order. I will post the choice you get from your list as soon as we reach you in the picking order. Again not a requirement but an option if you want and think it will speed things up.

I'm good w/ Sir Ulric. Haven't played a paladin in I can't remember when.

Sir Ulric wasn't one of my choices. Will Dram swipe my top pick I wonder...? Time for bed on my side of the pond - might not be able to sleep for excitement :)

For those of us with spellbooks, how do you want us to roll which spells we have access to? A post with the spell we are trying to learn on each line, the % rolled, yes/no for success, continuing until we've filled our maximum allocation?

So something like:

Magic Missile, [result of dice roll], fail,
Detect Invisible, [result of dice roll], success, spell 1
...
...
...
Lightning Bolt, [result of dice roll], pass, spell 11 (or whatever the max is)
Finish

And on a related note, I'm going to reskin Stratophanes as a follower of Amaterasu Omikami, Japanese goddess of the sun. If it was within the character theme, would a couple of Oriental Adventures spells be acceptable?

Yup that is exactly right.

I am going to have to say no on the OA. Allowing Clerics to pick Shukenja spells would be about the same as allowing them to select Druid spells (the class abilities are balanced by their spell selection) and I am not familiar enough with the balance of the Wu Jen spells in play to veto any choices that would be overpowering. I would rather you use description to add an oriental flavor to your spells. For example, fireball appears as an oriental dragon made of fire swooping out of the sky and enveloping those in the area of effect. There is never a mechanical benefit gained by description but it is a great way to add flavor.

Perfect, that's really what I was after. I'm not really up on the balance side either, I just looked at some of the names and thought 'ooh, that looks nifty' e.g. Fire Shuriken! I'll maybe describe Magic Missile like that (if I get that spell).

So one last request, again for thematic reasons. Can I swap the Wand of Frost (50K GP) for a Wand of Fire (25K GP)?

clarifying question - can Ulric the Paladin use a scroll of protection? Paladin's can't use scrolls unless it's allowable by fighters but don't see any indicator that these protections scrolls are allowed for fighter types.

thanks!

As I've got my PHB open... Same page (p22), under the Fighter listing (emphasis mine):

'Fighters can employ many magical items, including potions; "protection" scrolls; many rings; a few wands; one rod; many other magic items; and all forms of armor, shields and weapons.

Seems to suggest yes, and we used to allow it back in the day.

Black Wyvern - I created a new thread for spellbooks and went through level 1 for my character (named Sakura). Can you confirm I've done it right before I go and do levels 2, 3 and 4. Thanks.

Yup! That looks perfect!

And yup again, fighters and therefore pallies can use protection scrolls.

Well I will say in well over a dozen games with him I have never seen Waps play a dwarf. Not that that means you are completely safe but I would bet on it. I PMed him over at Myth-Weavers. He seems to check in more over there.

Alright well I'm still hanging in there waiting for my turn ;) if the dwarf gets picked before my turn I'll figure something out.
