We've typically parceled out magic items unidentified, haven't we, unless we had someone in the party available to do the identifying?

It looks like Piers is busy through September 30, so he has one week of research time available. We could pay 50gp to have him research the ring, the mace, and/or the horseshoes. The horseshoes, being created, we can probably ID just by putting them on a horse.

Could Winnie attempt to research any or all of the items during the month of downtime?

Good plan. :) You entrust all the items to Winnie's care, who retreats with them to the Sacred Grove of the Witchwood to commune regarding their nature. You agree to meet again to discuss them in a month.

She reports that:
  • The ring is imbued by a faithful spouse, and improves the perceived trustworthiness of the wearer to humans of the same gender. (+1 reaction, in that circumstance) [2,001xp]
  • The mace is imbued by a fastidious priest of Baudh. It has a base +1 bonus, but also preserves the bearer from the mundaneities of adventure - blood, dirt, and grime will not stick to their vestments during battle with the weapon. [4,001xp]
  • The horseshoes are enchanted with the element of wind. An equipped steed runs four inches off the ground, traversing any terrain without issue and leaving no tracks. (Mechanically, all movement counts as if "on a road")

Wacky. :)

I'd previously suggested giving the mace to Hengist, the horseshoes to Markd, and having Fingers and Bandy flip for the ring versus the potion. Now, I dunno. None of the items are really calling out to Fingers, although any bonus to reaction rolls wouldn't hurt (how would that affect charisma checks, if at all)? The horseshoes would probably have the best resale value in his shop. The potion of sweetwater might even come in handy as a quest-type item someday.

Does anyone have a preference on any of the magic items, now that we know what they are?

The horseshoes sound the coolest. The ring would make Markd's reax rolls go from negative 100 to negative 99. The mace would be good to give a new or npc cleric when needing magic. It is at least not a sword. But, it is useless to Markd.

Bandy would be happy with the potion of sweetwater or the ring of friendliness. He'd probably lean towards the potion as it might be more useful to an adventuring group.

Of course... he DOES have Mitch the pony, so he could very easily put the horseshoes to good use.

Hengist is happy with this division of magic and will donate the mace to the temple of Baudh unless there is a new PC cleric of Baudh who would benefit. Yes, it's a bit metagamey, but I like to support my fellow PCs when I can.

You arrive back at the White Tower on September 12, in time for the Fall Festival, then spend some time recovering in the Gaul countryside where you wish. (Pass 28 days to catch up to the game clock; post anywhere that you wish to account for that time.)
Please go handle your downtime before we start the next expedition. What IC locales did you frequent? Where did you stay? What lifestyle did you lavish upon youself (which has impact on your next expedition)?

Talk to other characters in town or at the Festival. Demonstrate your character's growth and reflection through some roleplay posts. :)

Is anyone performing an Expedition Tribute?

Do you need any more RP on Fingers's part?

As for an expedition tribute...oh, man. That seems like a lot of work for what's now a relatively tiny amount of XP. 100 XP is less than 0.4% of the XP Fingers needs to reach the next level, for example. If somone else wants to write up an expedition tribute, I'll happily accept the free 50 XP, but we all seem pretty busy, so I'm guessing it probably won't happen.
