Re: Expedition: Clay and the Warden's Tomb - 19 August 2021
Clay recommends the party use another campsite nearby to see if other orcs appear. I don't want to need to have us looking over our shoulders as we travel further North. Make sure they don't have scouts out there. He tries to determine if they can get away without a fire for the night.

Smoglea "Sounds smart enough a plan to me Clay." the halfling says.

Bianca
The elf meditates on those words that night. Until then she busies herself helping forage the local area. (Roll?) She also tries to work out a more exact position for them by reckoning how far they have come and trying to make at least a crude map. If she cannot be exact she wants to at the very least make a log of where they have found food or encountered trouble. Maybe such information will prove useful later.

I make these rolls in private at the beginning of each day. You've just had bad luck.Bluehorse wrote:Until then she busies herself helping forage the local area. (Roll?)
That's posted in each update. Go for it.Bluehorse wrote:If she cannot be exact she wants to at the very least make a log of where they have found food or encountered trouble. Maybe such information will prove useful later.

The nights get colder, down into the 40s, and each night has been accompanied by at least a drizzle, sometimes a moderate rain. The chill morning air also dampens things further as dew soaks your things. The campfire has been essential to comfort and drying you out - forgoing the campfire would leave you all less rested (CON check or -1 tomorrow), but you'd still get to recover your spells and move on.
Smoglea finds himself unable to sheathe his sword, now that he has drawn it. The feelings of bloodlust are still present in him and he cannot rest until he has addressed its need.
Willow leaves further philosophizing to Bianca and Clay, instead searching the orc bodies. She searches their bodies and their campsite. As a work crew, they were not loaded with treasure and coin. They do, however, have:
300lbs/gp worth of iron lumbering equipment
a ruddy brown orcish potion
a sludgy gray orcish potion
Five suits of orcish studded leather
Five orcish longswords
Five orcish longbows
Date: 24 August 2021, 8:35pm
Light: Sunlight
Distance: ~ 16 miles today, 18 since the smithy
Weather: Sunrise 5:54am, Sunset 8:35pm, half-moon waning, Temp 52-63 degrees
Effects: None
Injuries: Morrs (superficially wounded)

"We should at least take the two potions; they might prove to be useful. It would be nice to take the lumber equipment back, even if just to keep it from being used again by these... orcs..." Willow says, appraising the equipment. "Unless anyone wants to use the orcish weapons or armour, we should destroy it, as well."
Having heard the rumors that there are three tribes of orcs north of the river, Willow examines the dead orcs to see if she can determine which tribe they are from.

The dead orcs are all emblazoned with a red eye symbol.

Smoglea walks to each of the already dead orcs bodies and gives them all a good stabbing with his sword to see if that satisfies the sword's need for blood.

Unfortunately no... The blood of the already dead is inherently unsatisfactory.

Smoglea looks for something else living (not the folks travelling with him) that he might be able to satisfy the sword's blood-lust with even if it has to be a squirrel.

Clay agrees with taking the logging equipment. We don't need to carry it forever. Just far enough that they won't find it again. At least not easily.
With any luck, the next party of orcs will think this was done by the trees and get spooked away. In the morning, let's cover our tracks as best we can and be on our way. Leave the bodies for the crows and worms.
He notes Smoglea's behavior and asks what the problem is, and why he is chasing squirrels with a sword.
Clay is open to using the orc campsite for ease, as long as it seems like these are the only orcs that have been staying here.

Smoglea shrugs not sure why "I'm hungry." not sure if it is worth admitting that he thinks it is the sword.

There is indeed a plentitude of squirrels coming back into the forest as it becomes quiescent again. They are swift, however, and Smoglea isn't able to reach melee range by chasing them.
We'll resolve Smoglea's conundrum before moving into camp.

Clint's perpetual expression of puzzlement fixes on Smoglea. "Why are you chasing squirrels with your sword?" he asks.

Clint's look of puzzlement changes to concern. "A hungry sword? That...that can't be good."

The fur on Clay's neck stands upright and his whiskers twitch. Smoglea, what sort of sword is that you've brought along? Where did you get it from, and what did it hunger for? If it is just blood, can't you cut yourself? Or does it need a life? Clay digs his claws into the soils, ready to ask Beith to Entangle his companion if he needs to.
