Jayamanka

After the steadily growing tension, it's almost a relief when the Undead creature finally reveals itself and lunges out of the darkness at Jayamanka. The huntress's instincts kick in. She ducks down and to the right, expertly blocking with her shield. Keeping low, she counters, thrusting up at the thing with her spear but, in the tight confines of the tunnel and with her focus on blocking, her spear thrust is cramped and has little power behind it.

The passage is probably too narrow now for Skagvurd to swing over and past her but she keeps her head down just in case the big Northman tries it. She'd rather not get hit in the back of the skull with a war hammer.

To hit with spear: [1d20] = 13, [1d20] = 10, damage: [1d8] = 2
ooc: Jayamanka's Physique is 11. So, I'm guessing she hits thanks to the Weapon Specialisation but she only does 2 damage.

Jasper - Rogue

With the area being so narrow, Jasper does his best to stay out of the way, and holds the torch aloft, keeping an eye out for any additional baddies that might be waiting to show themselves.

The tip of Jayamanka's spear pierces the grey skin of the undead. It beats at the weapon, knocking it aside. Black blood drips from the wound.

With a snarl it lunges forth again, but Jayamanka is too quick and dodges the attack.

To hit1: [1d20+1] = 16+1 = 17, To hit2: [1d20+1] = 13+1 = 14, Neg to hit: [1d20+1] = 13+1 = 14

ooc: If someone behind Jayamanka had a spear or similar, I would allow them to stab at the thing, but there's not enough room for a weapon that would need to be swung, e.g, war hammer, without risking braining Jayamanka.

Xantius

Ooc: I'd like to throw a fireball above the party's heads and into the ceiling about 5 meters ahead. It's an. AOE spell, so the resulting fireball would engulf anything up ahead, and give us a big view of the next 10 meters of cavern, or so. Is the cavern ceiling high enough to allow this?

Not sure how far back Jasper is, but he has a spear and would happily poke the thing

ooc: The passage ceiling is about 8-9 feet high. Xantius could certainly aim the spell down the passage. Was the idea to do it close enough to the backside of the undead creature to try and damage it, or to aim further away?

ooc: Jasper's last in the marching order. He could move up and switch to his spear, but wouldn't be able to get there until round 3.

Jayamanka

The Undead creature is really really fast and its frenzied assault nearly gets around Jayamanka's shield. Its claws rend the air millimetres from Jayamanka's chest, only missing because she momentarily traps the creature's arm between her shield and the cave wall. Damn!

The huntress tries to adjust her position to skewer the thing with her spear but it has her on the defensive and she can't make it count. It's taking all of her skill to fend the creature off.

To hit with spear: [1d20] = 19, [1d20] = 16, damage: [1d8] = 4

ooc: Given Xantius's fireball looks to be the only other thing that might happen, I rolled Jayamanka's second attack but missed.

Skagvurd sets his hammer standing on it's head, the northman turns and holds out a large hanf. "Spear NOW!"

I know Skag has a javelin but I figure it's probably too short to attack from behind Jayamanka.

If Jasper can reach him, he'll quickly hand his spear to Skagvurd.

ooc: Jasper can pull the spear and get up to Skagvurd next round (third).

Let me know what Xantius wants to do with his spell, and then make the roll. I will post thereafter.

Xantius

Xantius does his best to stay out of the way of the warriors in the narrow passageway. Fearing more creatures coming behind the first, he places his quarterstaff against the wall to his left, and throws his free hand out and up, barking a word of power. A fireball shoots out of his hand, sails over everyone's heads, and hits the cavern ceiling about 10 meters away. When it touches the ceiling, the ball of flame expands with a whoosh, filling the cavern with fire.

Arcane Blast (fire) of PL2: [1d20+3] = 4+3 = 7 vs Willpower 14
Arcane Blast damage: [3d6] = 8

OOC: The idea was to aim the fireball farther away, and not to hurt the current zombie. And that was a very good roll! You'll see I actually used PL3, but forgot to change the description (I copy-pasted the code from earlier).

Yes. Jasper will make his way forward (politely, of course) to hand the spear off, doing his best to keep the torch up during his trip to the front.

Jayamanka does her best to hold off the undead. She finds it difficult to land another blow in the tight confines of the passage. She ducks to avoid one clawed hand only to move right into the path of the second. Filthy nails rake across her neck and she cries out in pain. The wound burns.

To hit roll1: [1d20+1] = 2+1 = 3, To hit roll2: [1d20+1] = 19+1 = 20, Neg die: [1d20+1] = 19+1 = 20

Damage Roll: [1d4] = 2

Suddenly a ball of fire soars over her and down the passage, detonating near the ceiling and briefly illuminating the passage beyond. There is no sign of additional animated corpses. In fact the passage dead ends in a rock wall. Bones can be seen scattered on the floor in the corner before the fireball extinguishes.

ooc: Can Jayamanka make a Physique check, please?

That was the end of round 2. Skagvurd can attack with the spear this round. He will be behind Jayamanka.

Jayamanka

ooc: Ouch! That's some pretty good die rolling there Charles!

Physique 11 vs: [1d20] = 16

ooc: Bum! That's not good!

Despite Jayamanka's best efforts to keep the creature at arm's length, its frenzied attack suddenly overwhelms her and its claws slip past her defences. Filthy nails leave a line of burning gouges in the flesh at the base of the huntress's neck and she lets out a string of curses "#$@&%*! #$@&%*! #$@&%*!"

She tries to push the creature away with her shield but finds it hard to do so in the face of its persistence. "&%*!, &%*!ing get off me you #$@&%*!" she swears at it.

To hit with spear: [1d20] = 17, [1d20] = 14, damage: [1d8] = 2

ooc: Ah no, that's rubbish too!! :( Maybe I should have left rolling until tomorrow as today hasn't been a great day in the real world. I should have known luck wouldn't be on my side!

The huntress tries to bring her spear to bear but, in the tight confines of the passage with the Undead creature in close, clawing at her, the longer weapon is of little use. Jayamanka gives up on it, dropping it and clutching for her blade while trying to keep the shield between her and her assailant.

"&%*!" things aren't going at all well.

ooc: Over to you now Skagvurd. Save me!! ;)

Skagvurd clutches the spear from Jasper's grasp, raising his arms he strikes at the creature from above Jayamanka.

"Jaya go low!"

Spear Attack [1d20] = 3 Damage [1d8] = 8

The burning sensation spreads quickly across Jayamanka's body and the huntress feels her muscles begin to stiffen. She begins to panic as she feels control of her body slip away.

Skagvurd shouts for her to duck and she has just enough control left to fall to her knees. The northman stabs out with Jasper's spear at the undead. He lets out a grunt of satisfaction as the sharp tip pierces the chest of the thing, sending it to the ground in a heap.

ooc: The undead is finished off and no sign of any others. As evidenced by Xantius' fireball, the passage up ahead dead ends. Nothing of note there save some bones on the floor.

Poor Jayamanka is paralyzed. She hasn't lost all movement, but she will need assistance walking and definitely cannot fight. I will call for a Physique check periodically to see if/when effects wear off.
