She raises her glass “Well, we have a new ship to get used to, our arms delivery due and our corporate clients to keep happy on the journey ahead. Here's to leaving Regina in better shape than we came in! Skol!”

"Skol!" Zaki clinks her glass against Carlos' and downs a drink. "I'm glad the two of you are staying with us."

Sigrun salutes Zaki and Carlos with her own ale and then with mock concern replies “Oh I couldn’t leave now - Mr Petamore hasn’t completed my indoctrination! I have yet to see sufficient Imperial culture to renounce my wild ways and become a useful member of society!”

Carlos shrugs. "Hey, it was a thought." He sips his beer. "How much longer you got til you get out, Bob?"

Bob says, "Four years or eight if I'm lucky. I've only got 2 more months here on Regina, though. I've got orders out to Foreven where the Service is running another survey. That means I'll be back aboard ship and out in the Great Black again. That Survey will take a good 8 years, so they might extend me if my Section is deep into Foreven."

"In fact I'm just about sure they will." Bob grins, "That was one of the questions they asked when they interviewed me. Wanted to know if I'd have a problem extending my time for another four years. Of course, I wouldn't have a problem!"

"I think they said it'd be a couple of days before the legal stuff is done," Zaki says. "I like the ship's current name; is there one that might be better?"

Sigrun is clearly delighted by John Lee’s response and, wearing a broad grin, she leans in close to deliver a whispered promise in Old Norse. Then, still smiling she turns to her comrades and says “The name seems sound enough. I suppose we could change it but it is sometimes unlucky ..." she furrows her brow " ... and besides the ship will have got used to it by now”. Her grin turns mischievous as struck by a sudden thought she innocently asks “Was Connie Malone a famous Imperial clerk or accountant?”

I did a net search and there are lots of Connie Malones listed, but I've no idea if it's one of them or someone else that meant something to whoever named the ship in the first place. I just think we might want to come up with a back story in case we get asked 'Why is your ship named Connie Malone? by someone somewhere, or other."

The story from unofficial sources is the Zhodani occupy some of it on the coreward side and there are Aslan colonies on the rimward side, but most of the settled worlds are occupied by Humaniti. We only have those 'stories', though."

A decidedly mellow Sigrun muses “I suppose we could ask the previous owner – he should know. It is not a very exciting name but to be good for business I suppose a merchant’s name should not be exciting”. She smiles “Now Gungnir is a good name and would keep away pirates!”

In reply she rolls her eyes in mock exasperation and then carefully explains “Gungnir is the All Father’s spear from the sagas and is therefore a proper and exciting name for a ship! However, sadly the name is already in use on a Biter class close escort - five hundred tons of beautiful steel. A famous raider from the last war used it for her flagship. However, I happen to know that she has retired to lounge on an incredibly comfortable Imperial Scout. So, while I’m sure we could borrow the name, I somehow think Connie Malone has to stay as she is”.

"Got it in one, boyo!" Bob chuckles adding, "You know the Zho-boyo's are full-time mind rapers and psionic devils, right? Can't get within a million kicks of them without wearing a psi helmet or they'll melt your head...or something like that."

Sigrun replies “Well, keeping a low profile so we don’t attract the attention your corporate enemies must be top of the list! If the previous owner will let us aboard there will be more than enough work to keep us out of trouble. Edwardo has his cargo arriving at the same time as the weapons that I bought. If we use the day or so before that for provisioning and familiarisation then we could lift anytime after those deliveries. Of course we have our passengers to get on board too”.

Zaki will notice that Sigrun is so far pointedly not joining in with Bob's conversation about the Zhodani and that the Sword Worlder's earlier blissfully mellow state is now showing the smallest telltales of discomfort.

I'm quite happy to move on into the prep/admin for that or straight to the adventure.

John Lee shrugs and says,"Why don't we ask? I'll phone LSP and see if I can find out when we can, at least, go aboard and look around."

He stands and steps away from the table holding his hand up to his ear to muffle the noise of conversation and the music that is playing in the room.

While Zaki and Sigrun are talking they see John Lee nodding and talking on the phone. He starts off looking serious, but ends up smiling. He looks over at the table, makes a fist and points his thumb up in toward the ceiling.

He ends the call in a few more moments and strolls back to the table,"Good thing somebody asked." he says with a grin, "We can go aboard this afternoon and get the grand tour by the former owner, sign the papers and take ownership. We will be able to sleep aboard our own ship this very night!"

"Sorry, Bob, but I vote we end the lunch now so we can go see our new ship."John Lee says standing next to Sigrun resting his hand lightly on her shoulder.

Bob chuckles and says, "Damn straight! I'd do the same thing."
