Canun seems particularly well-suited for his player to disappear for a while. His default position is to hang back out of combat and protect Canun. ;)

Did Vernon and Canun get attacks in? You can still attack an invisible opponent, it's just at -4, right?

They can attack, but the goblin will not there.

They can attack, but I had Vir-Kayik move after casting his spell (his attack), so he will no longer be where their attacks would be focused.

I thought movement always happened before attacking or spell casting. That's what the combat sequence on pp. 52-53 seems to say:

In most cases, there will be two opposing sides in a combat sequence. Whether it is monsters against the characters or characters fighting each other, there is one specific sequence to combat, as outlined below.

1. Players declare character movement or actions.
2. Initiative: 1d6 is rolled by each opposing side.
3. The winner of initiative acts first. The Labyrinth Lord may check morale for monsters.
4. Movements can be made.
5. Missile attack rolls are made, accounting for DEX adjustments, cover, and range.
6. Spells are cast and applicable saving throws are made.
7. Melee combat occurs; attack and damage rolls are made, accounting for STR and magic adjustments.
8. Other sides act through steps 4-7, in order of initiative
9. When all sides of a conflict have acted and the combat will continue into the next round, the sequence begins again at step 1.

I have not been strictly adhering that order all game, so it doesn't seem right to enforce it now.


That said, if it's going to be an issue, Rusty Tincanne can go ahead and make the missing rolls.

Thanks.

Has there been a situation when our PCs took advantage of not enforcing that order? As far as I can remember, it has only helped the bad guys escape combats that were going against them.

I can't say I recall every single round of every single encounter, by I'm willing to bet there have been many violations of the (silly) rule by both sides during the course of the game.

That said, considering where we are in the adventure, I'm so not interested in a debate (especially over rules in a system I'll likely never play again).

I'll just keep the goblin where it is wait for the attacks rolls to be made.

You should know yourself better than that. You only have to work in a 3rd and a 4th edition game, and then you'll have to start back over. :)

Well, actually, I did already dabble with Pathfinder which is essentially 3.5, but it didn't really take.

That said, I genuinely really like 5e, and it is unquestionably my edition of choice going forward. The chance of me returning to any of the previous editions (including 2e, which was probably my favorite) is extremely low.

Congratulations, guys. This was fun.

In case any of you are interested, this was the module you guys just completed: Dark Times in Brighton. The module formatting and organization leads much to be desired, but I really liked the problem the group had to solve, and how it was defended:

"The first thing Vir-kayik did when he
returned to his reclaimed alchemy lab is
taint his decanter of endless water. Once
cursed, he tipped it into a well which
leads directly into the river which feeds
into town. To keep any clumsy goblins or
skillful adventurers from putting the
stopper back on the decanter, he lured
two carcass scavengers (who can drink
the toxic water freely) into the room
containing the decanter and well and
locked it in place....
"

I also thought there he used goblins creatively (e.g. two-headed goblin torturer; undead goblin; etc...).



Anyway, I'll leave this up for a day or two for you guys to comment, review, ask question, etc... before moving it into the 'Completed Games' section.

Or, I will memorialize it as a game run by me that didn't result in a TPK. ;)

So, Dave, by my count (ie, that I played), that is 2 wins and 3 tpk for you. That is Ted Williams type batting.


This one was much more difficult due to our PCs staying 1st level (with cleric exceptions), making HP so low. We had to do a lot of stop/resting. Had we progressed to 2nd or 3rd level, the dungeon could probably have been wiped out pretty easily. So, I found the challenge refreshing.

Too bad you aren't interested in doing more Basic D&D games, Dave. I thought you did a nice job with this one. And it'd be fun to take Keebler and Horatio out for another spin.

Well, Keebler, anyway. Horatio's still kind of a jerk.
