"Let us wait before defoliating," decides Ulster. "If we decide we need to do it, I have ways. But it would be better if I had a night's rest to prepare.

Ulster has used his only anti-plant shell for the day. But he can conjure two fire elementals, which I suspect could destroy quite a wide swath of plants. And then there are all these tech gadgets we now have. Any of them look like flamethrowers? Anyone have an urge to throw a fireball into the big jungle room? ;)

Castinus - human thief

Castinus grimaces at the thought of carnivorous grass eating through his boots. I wonder if there's anything that lives here that the grass wouldn't eat, he muses.

The party moves on, staying on the stones of the path as much as possible.

There are a lot of bones strewn about, most looking quite old. They have obviously been gnawed at.

The grass is taller in this area. You get the feeling you are being watched.

Grimes - Fighter

Grimes twitches nervously, and he mutters just above a whisper "This place just keeps gettin' weirder. I'm gonna get unseen and if anything shakes loose, I'll poke it reaaal good."

Grimes becomes invisible and will stay 5-6 feet from the party (to the side, I guess)

"Whoa there, little feller! We're all friends here!" says Ulster. He knows how to deal with an attack by an animal—a weird, strange animal, but clearly an animal nonetheless.

Cast animal friendship, unless he can't do that while his throat is in the beast's jaws, in which case he'll cast it from his staff.

ETA: If animal friendship takes too long to cast, please replace it with charm person or mammal. The beast looks sort of mammal-like...

Furuk takes a step back and fires his laser pistol at the beast!

OOC: I couldn't locate the stats for the laser pistol. Please post my attack this round and I'll roll the next attack.

Grimes - Fighter

With the others focused on this creature, Grimes will look about carefully in case more are laying in wait or preparing to spring.

AURUMVORAX, round 1

INITIATIVE baddies [1d6] = 1 party [1d6] = 2

Ulster's neck is compromised but he can still get out the spell. The monster save vs spells (10) [1d20] = 6 hearing the words releases its grip on the druid. It sits back on its haunches, and looks at its new friend. The beast is similar to an eight-legged honey badger or wolverine: small and fierce. Blood drips from its muzzle.

The rest of the characters hold back, seeing the spell work.

Grimes notices no other movement in the high grass.

Ulster, friend of animals, is happy to have made a new friend. He kneels down and starts talking to it (cast speak with animals).

He starts by greeting it and asking its name. After initial pleasantries are over, he asks the wolverine honey badger about the room it's in and what else it knows about the plants and animals in this place.

Ulster casts his spell. The others hear him making strange sounds but the badger-like creature turns to him knowingly.

I am called Prime among my kind, although I may be the last of them. I have not seen others for what seems ages. My kind is called Aurumvorax by some. This room is our hunting ground, although there are areas I avoid as the plants are unfriendly. Occasionally I find small animals in here and I eat them but they appear less and less frequently. I am very hungry and looked forward to eating you. May I eat one of your companions? You notice that you can see his ribs.

Algrim having no clue what is going on digs through his pack and produces some of his rations and tosses the dried meat on the ground near the odd creature the druid is talking to. "Thing looked starved. I can see it's ribs." the looks around sure the others are perplexed that the dwarf would feed a creature he was about to skewer on his spear moments ago. "What? I aint all bout killin yah know. I like some critters to. Used ta have a dog once."

Dieter - Mage

Dieter looks on with interest. Critter looks tough... Ulster, ask it what it steers clear of, maybe we should do the same.
