Where are you going? To the door north? The area south? To investigate the new trees?

OCC: I thought the area to the south, through the garden. Dieter is not so interested in the tree but will observe from afar if someone else wants to check them out.

Re: Chapter 27 - Let's go smell the flowers
The party moves south. When any one of you steps off the path and into grass, you feel the grass move under the soles of your boots, as if it is trying to bore in. (Well, anyone but Furuk who is encased in his super-armor).
As you walk by the strange trees, a globular fruit falls to the ground nearby, bursting open and its liquid contents splashing out. The stench is horrible.

Re: Chapter 27 - Let's go smell the flowers
Ulster remains fascinated by the flora. He bends down to inspect the grass, then gets as close as he dares to the stinky fruit.

Please describe how he inspects both.Zhym wrote:Ulster remains fascinated by the flora. He bends down to inspect the grass, then gets as close as he dares to the stinky fruit.
Re: Chapter 27 - Let's go smell the flowers
I dunno. In a druid-y way? Ulster's the plant expert, not me.
Edit: He won't actually touch either, if that's what you mean.

Algrim tries to avoid touching anything other than the ground as he walks following the others he doesn't act at all bothered by the smell of the open fruit.

Re: Chapter 27 - Let's go smell the flowers
Let's say Ulster does his best to identify the plants from a distance.
That's the druid ability to identify plant type, which is admittedly a poorly-defined ability.

Re: Chapter 27 - Let's go smell the flowers
Ulster pauses a moment to examine the plants from a distance. They are like plants he is familiar with, but he can tell that these are new to this world (or at least this part of the world).
The grass is clearly carnivorous, which Ulster has never seen before. It appears to be trying to bore into boots and would likely bore into bare skin quickly. It is making headway through some of the boots so he advises all to stay on the overgrown paving stones.
The trees are similar to palm trees (which the druid once saw on his travels) although the fruit appears to be these globular fruits that are blue, violet, or lilac in color. He thinks them ripe (on both senses of the word).

Re: Chapter 27 - Let's go smell the flowers
"This is really interesting," says Ulster, "and I'd really like to spend some time studying it—when properly equipped and prepared for hostile plant life. For now, though, I think we should probably leave these alone and move on. There's no point hanging around where the grass is trying to kill you."
He does wonder what an entangle spell would do here.

Re: Chapter 27 - Let's go smell the flowers
Algrim learning of the news about the grass quickly moves onto the stones and makes sure he never steps onto the grass again. "How bout we go an check somethin' else I dun like this garden at all. Every durned thin' wants ta eat us."

Ja, that grass is something... hate to imagine what would happen if it got outside this place and started spreading... world killer. Keep to the south/east I guess.

Ulster stops and looks at Dieter. "You're right! I have been thinking of this as a curiosity, but the effect these plants could have on the balance if they made it out into the rest of the world could be devastating! Should we be trying to wipe these plants out, do you think?"

Your on to something I think Ulster... the plants may get out or whatever magic keeps this place running will go out like a candle or a fireball. A question we should pose to ourselves before ending this exploration.
