Chapter 17 - Delve Deux into the Orcless Orc Stronghold

"I reckon Hyde and Dandelion and I ought what to just wail on it," says Angus. "Keep your magic missiles ready in case it gets a notion to hug us real tight, though."

Oh, what the hey. We've been sitting here talking forever. Let's see what happens if we just attack.

Ya want me to kill it, hah? Hyde almost nonchalantly asks, Be kinda easy right now, yeahh.

Yenny, concerned for their tied-up source of info, makes sure to pull the orc prisoner aside as violence breaks out.

Hyde nods and grunts, pulling his sword. Watch him, hah, He barks and points at the Orc, then turns to Dandelion. We ought make it quick, ya wanna gig it with that fork?

DAndelion quickly twirls to get in the snake's blind side. She doesnt have to be asked twice to rid the world of these things.

Yenny asks which humans the orc is talking about, and the humanoid just shrugs its shoulders. It begins to elaborate when Angus and Dandelion fall upon the snake. The giant reptile begins to disgorge the greyskin. Dandelion savages it twice with her trident, and Angus cuts a deep wound into its thick, muscular body. Hyde watches the orc prisoner while Figgis and Galan are happy to watch the two warriors ply their craft.

Yenny watches from the doorway, and Kablamicus comes to the doorway too, readying a spell in case it's needed.

Remarkably, the giant snake still lives...and it is pissed. It quickly (especially for its size) slithers into attack mode, preparing to bite at its attackers.

Aw, dammit, yeahh, Hyde swears and marches with a purpose toward the fray. He turns and again levels his blade at the Orc, repeating, Watch him! He bears the snake no ill will, but will not allow it to harm his good pals. AAAAAAAAAAA!

(Assuming orc is still tied up, otherwise she stays with Orc.) "Keep an eye on him, K-sauce." Yenny enters the fray with her flail. Flailing as usual.

Dandelion continues her attack, skewering the serpent again with her trident, uncaring whether the various holes make the skin useless for a clutch or boots later.

Angus watches Hyde and Dandelion perforate the snake.

Ugh. I always seem to get bad rolls when I roll from my iPad instead of waiting to do it from my laptop.

If I understand AleBelly's crit rules, that may be a critical hit. That's a good thing. Especially with Angus rolling a solid miss.

That's a crit hit on AC 4 or higher. A fumble on AC 0 or lower. I'll update tonight, but if you want to roll a d100 for the critical hit effect on this table and any additional damage:

Let's hope it gets a bad init, because I cant imagine it surviving Dandelion's third double digit hit. Unless his crit is a fumble that knocks out Dandelion's attack.

Dandelion and Hyde are quick, agile fighters. But so is the snake. Dandelion gets a bit too close to the large, wounded reptile and with alarming speed it sinks its teeth (-3 hp) into her shoulder and rapidly wraps its body around her twice, pinning an arm! Luckily, it was her shield arm, and she impales the behemoth with her trident just as one of her ribs is snapped by the constriction (-4 hp). Hyde cuts its lower body to ribbons and the creature falls limp. It still takes Dandelion a few seconds to free herself from the dead snake's coils.

Yenny keeps watch over the captive orc, who is reluctantly impressed by the group's battle skills.

The area around them is now truly silent. They share the room with the corpses of a snake and a slobbery nightman.

Dandelion takes a moment or two to breathe. She vows to take these snakes more seriously next time. Then, she cuts open the snake, knowing many of them have trouble digesting jewelry.

Dandelion almost retches from the smell of the giant snake as she slits its abdomen wide open. It takes some doing. The half-orc debutante is quite disappointed to find virtually nothing in the digestive system of the creature. Perhaps starvation is why it was so aggressive towards the hapless greyskin?

It occurs to Galan that the scroll case he found minutes earlier may have passed through the snake's body before finding its way into the gnome's hands.

"Hmm. Well should we escort this person" indicating the orc "out of here?." We should be careful when we leave though--if the orcs are answering to humans, then the humans probably know that we're here and why." Yenny keeps her distance from Dandelion's culinary prep efforts.

Angus nods. "He done his part of the deal. Time we hold up ours."
