Expedition: Fingers/Ghostly Trial - Part II - 23 July 2021
Re: Expedition: Fingers/Ghostly Trial - Part II - 23 July 20
Seeing the obvious aggressive behavior of the ghost, Bandy slowly backs away from it in the direction of the door.
"Can anyone understand what it's saying," he whispers questioningly.

Markd whispers back, as he steps slowly backward as well.
He's saying we've no right to be here without permission. not sure who he is, but must be someone in the family.

Fingers stays the heck out of the room and waits for everyone else to do the smart thing and exit. Then he wonders how well his cloak works against the ghost. If he could go into the room without the ghost seeing him...well, there's a whole bunch of shiny in there. It'd be an awfully big risk, though.
Re: Expedition: Fingers/Ghostly Trial - Part II - 23 July 20
Okay, going to add to this. Only Hengist can communicate in Lawful. Since he's wearing obvious vestments of the ghost's religion, he'll get a +2 bonus on the CHA roll if he wants to make it. If he fails, he's alone in the front and the obvious target for attack. To be clear, it is threatening, not attacking, this round. If it attacks, it will be on a future round and he'll have an opportunity to try and turn it as well.Marullus wrote:Markd can understand but not speak the language.
If someone is going to try and negotiate with the angry ghost, role-play base concepts in Lawful and they can roll [5d6] against Charisma. Markd doesn't hinder them.

Bandy whispers, "It looks pissed!" as he continues to back out of the room.

"We are sorry to disturb you. We intend no disrespect. We will leave," says Hengis in Lawful.
He will remian ready to attempt to turn the ghost if needed, waiting until the others have left the room to back out himself.

Re: Expedition: Fingers/Ghostly Trial - Part II - 23 July 20
Hengist attempts to mollify the incorporeal being as it berates him, giving time for Bandy and Markd to both retreat to the doorway behind him. His efforts are insufficient, however, and the spiritual nobleman loses its patience and wooshes forward to touch the cleric of Baudh with its spectral fingers.
Hengist brings his holy symbol up, abjuring the lost soul in the name of Baudh! The reliquary necklace around Hengist's neck abruptly flares to life, the saintly remains contained within it glowing with a holy light and warm against Hengist's skin, adding to the force of the cleric's words. The ghost recoils in horror, holding up its hands and backing away from the cleric but unable to depart as there's no apparent other entrances from the tomb.

"Whoa!" says Fingers, impressed.
"Does that mean we can take the stuff that's in here now?"

Bandy pauses in mid-retreat as Fingers makes his suggestion.
He turns and looks at the ghost to see where it is positioned in the room and what golden shiny objects might be located closer to him than the ghost.

Markd pauses as well, looking around to see what historic artifacts may be useful as he focuses on the books.

Hengist continues to hold the ghost at bay. "I'm not sure how long the holy power of Baudh will hold him back. Especially if you guys start ransacking the place."

Hengist holds the ghost at bay in the far corner. It blocks access to the bookshelves and scrolls. The precious metals and the weapons laid on the coffins are potentially reachable, though....

Fingers, this is your adventure, so I'm waiting for your direction, as to whether we do a smash and grab or whether we respectfully exit the room.

Just checking in quickly—I think Fingers's sense of self-preservation usually overcomes his greed. If it looks like we can get in, grab some stuff, and get out safely and without having to fight the ghost later, Fingers is up for it. But his overriding goal is to make sure he and Sprinkles make it out of here alive. Rich, if possible, but alive.
Re: Expedition: Fingers/Ghostly Trial - Part II - 23 July 20
Bandy eyes Fingers and Markd to see if they reach for anything. If they do, then he will, as well, going for items of gold or that appear important first.
If they back out of the room without taking anything, then he follows suit.

Okay, this can wait for Zhym.
Re: Expedition: Fingers/Ghostly Trial - Part II - 23 July 20
Fingers is sorely tempted by the chance to grab some loot while the ghost is unable to do anything about it. The shield and swords might bring a fine price in his shop if they're magical. And if any of those books are spellbooks? Ka-ching! But his sense of self-preservation overcomes his greed. "C'mon. We can loot the whole place if we do something about whatever's cursed this place. 'Sides, I don't want a pissed off ghost coming after us. Let's see what's behind the next door."
Marullus, can I get dimensions on the new rooms we've seen so far?

I agree that lifting the curse should be our first priority, says Hengist. He will hold the ghost at bay while the others exit the room then back out him self.

Bandy leads the others out of the room.
Once they have the door closed, he asks, "So you think all of these doors are like this? Or maybe we can get some clues to removing the curse from one of the other rooms? And I can't remember... did we check what was at the top of the stairs here," he points to the staircase in the middle of the room.
