Looks good... I should warn you, you probably shouldn't put your dagger away in your backpack if you want to have easy access to it...

Ok, but I think we need Carling to pick which spell he is memorizing for the day...?

He has six spells in his repertoire and prepared 'Dancing Lights' for the first period.

I'm running slightly behind on character creation. Hope to be good to go in the morning, though.

It's cool... some time tomorrow, I'm planning to advance the group, but it'll just be setting the scene and figuring out how long the hike is.

Any thoughts about what you're interested in playing?

I'm going human Fighter and using Set 1, for that sweet, sweet Charisma bonus.

Hrmmmm... Charisma bonus? *blink blink*

Though it does more than some stats, Charisma doesn't give you all the bennies it does in b/x (note: it's possible I'm missing it somewhere)

The description of Charisma on p. 4 states "It has a strong influence on how non-player characters react to the character and determines the ability to hire and inspire followers." Although now that you mention it there doesn't seem to be a bonus listed on the next page, just a maximum number of followers. Speaking of which, does Strength give a bonus to hit or damage? It doesn't seem to.

Technically, no.

Now, there are Gary Gygax house rules that add a +1 or +2 to to hit/damage rolls, but Strength is basically for fighter xp bonus only.

That said, there is an ability check, where you need to roll under something to succeed. A feat of strength, or an attempt to charm someone would use that to figure out if you succeed. Historically, that could be either an Nd6 roll (N being a difficulty estimate) or a d20 roll. So the stats will matter, just in a somewhat different, maybe more low key, way.

I've been slammed at work, but will do my best to get a character up by this evening. Please don't wait for me.

No worries. Looks like there's still a bit of last minute shopping people want to do before heading out...

Betdas the Bold is up. I need to do equipment still, and get hp and AC and stuff sorted out. Still trying to read through the rulebook to get a hang of the differences.

Aight, Betdas is pretty much done. The only thing I can't figure is movement rate; where does it give base movement rates?

Looks good!

It's a race-based base-speed, and to facilitate people playing different things, the base speeds are all in the monster section. For humans, it's 30.

As for where we're at, we seem to have 2 people suggesting to start with a barrow, and 2 suggesting starting with the standing stone. Once we get a consensus (which I guess means 4 votes, if there are 6 of you) we will go with that course of action.

Alright. Betdas, you've got 6 HP...

Betas HP: [2d8k1] = 6

Feel free to join the game.

I *strongly* suggest we not split up at this point.

It’s probably best we don’t split up.
