My 2020 page is up. I picked a different hospital this year. I'm trying to spread the money to some of the smaller hospitals that don't get much love.
Sometimes this summer I will most likely be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.

With everything that has been going on this year, I didn't really feel like asking anyone to donate yet, especially since I don't even know if we'll be playing our fundraiser marathon this year. But, there is a pretty sweet limited edition Extra Life metal d20 that is only available to people who raise at least $75 in August, so I figured I would put this out now. I have a low goal, enough to get me the annual Extra Life t-shirt, nowhere close to what my goal would have been. If you want to check out my page, maybe throw a dollar or two towards a children's hospital, that'd be great. If you can't/ don't want to, I understand. Asking people to donate money who may have lost their job or had hours cut, or any number of things that are going on right now feels wrong.

Extra Life Game Day is this Saturday. While I will not be playing a marathon game this year due to Covid, it is Virtual Gamehole Con, and I'm playing 52 hours of online games over the course of the weekend. I need just $59 in donations to unlock the shirt. Any donations are welcome. Thank you.

Awesome! Good luck Scott!!
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

All right! With things opening up, local game stores in my area are going to have in-person gaming again starting July 1st. Because of this, we are putting details together for the annual marathon game! I don't know who my DM will be or what I'll be playing yet, but I do know that I'm going to participate. 24 hours of gaming, from 10 am Saturday, July 31st to 10 am Sunday, August 1st. I will again be raising money for Extra Life. For those unfamiliar, this is a charity that works with Children's Hospitals. For more information, click the link in my signature. Any donation is welcome. Thank you.

I have added incentives for donations. At various levels you can do things like pick my character's class or race...or the band whose shirt I wear during the event.

Game day is tomorrow!

Here is my character's description. His name is Dr. Walmond Weird, the Warlock Wondrous.

Walmond was a healer before a tragic cart accident caused his hands to be mangled. Unable to continue his profession, he slipped into a dark place before deciding to end his life. Jumping into the sea, he began to sink, his life bubbling away as his breath left him. Then, a giant eye opened, gazing upon him. Suddenly, he was no longer drowning. He heard a voice in his head, offering him a chance at a new life, one with untold power if Walmond would be willing to devote his life to serving the kraken Grydrur. Walmond accepted, and Grydrur healed his hands.

And yes, I am using a photo of Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange as Walmond's image, and I picked up a Dr. Strange Heroclix that I removed from its base and put on a 1" D&D base.

A few of Dr. Weird's previous adventures:

I was hired to find an ancient religious artifact in the desert. We found the tomb, but it was full of snakes. Don't know why it had to be snakes, but they were very deadly. Also, many of them were tropical, so not sure why they were in the desert... Anyway, we were discovered by others who left me to die and likely ended up making off with the treasure, don't know for sure. Obviously, I was able to find a way out.

Another time, I was hired to escort a group of halflings who were walking all the way to Dormor to deliver a ring for a wedding. One ring to bind them in holy matrimony. I told them one does not simply walk to Dormor, but they didn't want the expense of horses or a horse and wagon, so walk it would be. Unfortunately, it turns out none of them were willing to swim across a lake- apparently they don't swim well or breathe underwater. So we took the long way 'round. We finally arrived and were told we were late. I said that a warlock is never late nor early- we arrive precisely when we arrive. Turns out, we WERE late- the wedding was two days earlier and they didn't have the ring. The bride, Saura, was so angry she threw the ring in the river.

Thank you! A very large part of that total was from donations made by members here! Thank you all very much!

Just because game day has come and gone, it does not mean it is too late to donate. Donations can be made throughout the year, and as incentive, Extra Life has a full set of dice with the Extra Life logo on them for anyone who is able to raise $150 during the month of August. I'm halfway there already, so any donations can help me get a sweet new set of dice- and we all know you can never have enough dice!

It is official! We will be holding our annual marathon game July 23-24! I don't know what we're playing yet so I don't know if I'll be creating a new character or playing an existing one, but I will definitely be playing! I might even be playing at the streaming table this year. If anyone is interested, the link to my Extra Life page is in my signature. I have not opened all the incentives yet, because I don't want someone to donate to help build my character if I don't end up creating one.

So, I will be on the streaming table- and it will be a more professional set-up than the streaming game I played in a few years ago. We will be playing Dungeon of the Mad Mage, starting at level 11, so I will not be creating a new character for this event. I'm sure there will again be boons awarded for donations received, so those will help the party- especially if the DM ends up allowing people to donate on the stream to affect the game. If you are interested, here is the character I will likely be playing. Any resemblance to a character in a comic book/ movie owned by a company that zealously protects their IPs is purely coincidental, in a very non-litigious way. https://ddb.ac/characters/55095889/A8gLaQ

I'm always interested to see people's builds for 5e characters. One of the big choices to make is whether to go for a broad set of skills, or go all in on strengths. I might have sacrificed Arcana or something to go for a +9 on intimidate or persuasion, depending how I was feeling about the character concept.

I could totally see going that route. I felt that as an arcane caster (even though his magic is given by an outside power) he should know something about arcana, even if he doesn't know a lot in general due to the low INT score. I know some players try to take proficiency only in things for which they already have high bonuses, but I often try to take a few that I have low scores in. That way I'm not in major trouble if I have to make a check in a skill I'm terrible at.

The choice of skill proficiencies subtly says a bunch about the character's personality - are they conservative and diligent, or do they eagerly pursue the path of least resistance?

Less than two weeks until game-day! We're playing Dungeon of the Mad Mage at Tier 3 (level 11 or 12) so no character building options available this year. I would like to thank Chubby Pixie for donating to pick my shirt- I will be wearing Dio!

Shoot. Not sure I’ll be able to watch the live stream again this year - and Dio ROCKS!!!
My friends from HS and have our annual “fishing” weekend. Been going to Montauk since 1988, except, of course, the past two years. :( But I’ll have to check on my phone. :)
