Hi Zhym,
I'll rule that he doesn't have to maintain concentration for the swarm to continue attacking the chosen target.
But if he wants the swarm to change targets, that will cost him an action to redirect them.

Sounds reasonable to me.

Hey guys,

I'm going away for Thanksgiving.
With 8 out of 9 PCs already responding to my last post, I figured I could get an update out before I go.
So, Hedge: I NPCed Roan for this round. Hope you don't mind.
I'll be offline until Monday 11/27.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

No worries, man.
When it doubt, Roan will fight!

In fact, I amended his actions for this round.

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Thanks, hedge.

Everyone, you might be aware that hedgeknight is drawing down his activity on the US boards next month. As you can see, he's decided to send Roan out in style. :)

Hi guys,
Is "defensive stance" a thing in AD&D 1e? If so, where can I learn about it please? :)
Thanks.

I don't think there's actually a maneuver called "defensive stance"- I just meant that Zahara would be trying to keep an eye out for anything attacking her while changing weapons. Mostly a cosmetic thing, I guess.

Inferno,

Can we tell whether the chariot wheels are made of wood?

I don't think AD&D 1ed has any rule on someone taking a fully defensive stance, i.e. using the whole round not attacking and not allowing an opening to be hit. The closest instance you have is the Sword of Defender +4 which can put some or all of the sword plusses into AC instead of to hit. I think doing nothing but defending for a full round was addressed in 2e. In the past DMs would give a +1 or +2 to a persons AC for doing so. DM Fiat.

There is the option of parrying, from the PHB:
PHB p. 104 wrote:Participants in a melee can opt to attack, parry, fall back, or flee. . . . Parrying disallows any return attack that round, but the strength "to hit" bonus is then subtracted from the opponent's "to hit" dice roll(s), so the character is less likely to be hit.
But that's only useful for characters with 17 strength or better.

Thanks, all.

I'll go with the BTB parry rule. Dads and Urson: if that isn't what you had in mind, I'll allow Mako and Zahra to alter their actions this round.
If you'd like to attack this round, please include a linked roll. (Urson, Zahra may change weapons AND attack in one round if she wants.) Thanks.
Zhym wrote:Inferno,

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Arthfael's view is blocked by a marauding skeleton but wooden wheels are common in chariots, and their roar on the stone tiles sounds wooden.
Also, fyi: The first two chariots are slowing to avoid a collision with the wall. The third chariot is still charging at speed.

Thanks.

Would the timing of casting Warp Wood work such that Arthfael could warp the wheels of the charging chariot just as it came within the 30' range of the spell?

Yes.

Fyi, unlike Briarsgate, this game doesn't have critical hits or fumbles with 20s and 1s. :)

I'm not sure which way is better. My sense is that having a crit hit/fumble house rule hurts the party more than helps them.

Garrin, Kiri and Amethu, do you close ranks to allow Arthfael to step back from the melee and cast? Doing so means Arthfael's foe will attack one of you instead of him. Thanks.

Amethu would also. it's do or die in this battle.

I must have been thinking of Parrying. But that isn't going to happen with Mako's 13 Str. Action changed.
