Cormac turns and looks to the elf "Secret door? Why didn't you say something sooner? by all means lets try it."

Saeros Silversword

The Elf nods at Cormac and smiles.
Just found it.

He prepares to open the secret door and enter.

Be quiet, we dont know whats in there. Maybe something worse than Goblins. Hopefully some gold.

Sword in one hand, he reaches for the door.

Cormac throwing axes in hand turns to aid Saeros should any enemies be in waiting on the other side of the secret door.

Lardo stays positioned at the barricade but turns his attention uneasily to Sham and Saeros and the just-discovered secret door.

Sham is distracted as he sees the elf opening a secret door.
He looks to the goblin prisoner and gives him a good shove,
In goblin
"What else are you holding out on us? Are there any other secret doors or traps we should know about?
Where does this passage go?"

All for taking the secret passage. I think Bloodaxe has called it right, in that we have ourselves a stalemate. Its suicide to attack them straight on, and they seem unwilling to give us an advantage.

Saeros Silversword

He nods to the group.
Ready?

Once his companions are ready, Saeros opens the secret door as quietly and carefully as he can and looks inside, if safe- he will enter.

===============

Somebody might want to have a torch ready. Saeros has infravision, so that might be OK for now.
If there is a monster in here, we can toss the Goblin in !

Lardo keeps a close eye on the goblin's reactions as Saeros opens the secret door.

21st of Shining, 1:15 pm

After discovering the secret door, the party seems to feel it may provide a better option than the Galdari Standoff they currently have with the goblins. Sham cuffs the prisoner, demanding to know why he did not reveal this passage, but the goblin only protests and pleads ignorance of it.

Saeros prepares to open the door while the others look on, Cormac hefting his new throwing axes. Kyle brings a lit torch over and stands by one side of the door, ready to hold it up and shed light on whatever lies beyond.

As the others' eyes watch Saeros and the door, Lardo keeps a shrewd eye on the goblin. As Saeros trips the lever to open the secret door, he sees the goblin's thin lips curve in a smile that bares his sharp teeth.

As the door swings aside with a soft rumble, Kyle hold out the torch; Saeros finds himself looking into a room with rough, unworked walls, a natural cave of some sort. The smell that wafts from within is foul and sour, filled with the reek of rotting meat and unwashed body odor. It is high-ceilinged and sprawling, perhaps forty feet in diameter. In the glow of the torchlight, Saeros can see that the floor is littered with bones, dried leaves, scraps of fur, and a mishmash of rubbish. He sees what looks like a large brown bear sprawled out asleep on the floor. Sitting near it, by the cave wall, is a hulking lump; but as the door opens the lump stands and reveals itself as a powerfully muscled humanoid that stands head and shoulders over even Cormac. It has stringy black hair and beady red eyes, and is clad in a long rough tunic of heavy fur. In one hand it loosely grasps a large double-bitted battleaxe, though the weapon looks almost like a toy in this creature's massive fist.

It's eyes fall on Saeros, and its face splits into a hideous grin. In broken common it says, "Was expecting goblins. Elf is better. Tastier." It starts toward him.

Actions? It is only 10-15' away; unfortunately the secret door is not quick, so if you try to shut it again, it will be able to get through before the door closes unless you beat its initiative by 3 or more, or someone scores a hit on it to force it back.

Brother Henry - Priest

Henry says quietly "Let's see how far it goes first, I'd hate to go down here and find a dead end and then come back to this room filled with angry goblins. Perhaps we scout ahead a little before all going in?"

Henry is fine waiting at the barricade as needed, torch at the ready just in case...

EDIT: OOPS, Posted as you were posting...

Assuming Henry has accompanied the others he says "Toss that goblin to that thing and flee!" He'll turn to head back out... QUICKLY

Nobody has gotten any further than opening the door. Since you were just talking about retreating from an advance, you are currently in the position shown on the map (near the barricade) until you say otherwise.

"Remind me to slit that little bugger's throat when I get back, Henry," Lardo says to his friend, nodding toward the captive goblin.

He hands his torch to Kal and instructs the boy to toss it into the oil-soaked hallway if he sees goblins advancing. Then he draws his short sword and moves to the secret door, looking for an opportunity to sneak in behind the melee and deliver a backstab attack. (Assuming that action will take place on the following round.)

Cormac seeing the elf charge into battle through the secret door moves forward and throws an axe at the hulking figure dressed as a bear.

Cormac Attack w/Hand Axe Thrown [1d20] = 13, damage [1d6] = 4

Sham rushes to the door to see what Saeros has uncovered. When he spots the hulking creature, he yells, "Let it come out to us!"

He does his best to muscle passed the torchbearer and Cormac. Sham is far from the secret door according to the map. Is there any chance of an attack this round? If not he will be positioned by the door to make a withdrawed attack next round or join Saeros upfront if the elf does not believe in retreating.

Quick clarifications:

Sham, Cormac is advancing and Kal moving at Lardo's direction, so you can get through. You can close and attack this round, if desired.

Saeros, you did not mention advancing or retreating, so you are engaging the creature from your current position by the door; if Sham wants to attack, he can come up alongside you. But in that position, Lardo will not be able to backstab unless you give some ground, letting it come inside the room you're currently in.

I'll give it another day for Scott to chime in for Eglistrum, then move the action forward.

Henry - Priest

Henry shakes his head in aggravation at the situation. With his free hand, he brings his mace down on the head of the goblin, intent on knocking him out.

Aside from trying to put the goblin out, Henry will intently watch the goblin passage, ready to drop the torch at the approach of anything.

OOC: I can totally see the goblins advancing when they hear the sounds of battle, but then again, perhaps they'll wait to see the outcome. Either way, nothing good is going to happen...
