Chapter 24 - The Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, part 1
Re: Chapter 24 - The Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, part 1
You sleeps as well as you can in the lit room. Nothing disturbs you, except for creaks, clanks, and groans. Sometimes, when its quiet, this metal citadel seems haunted.
You gather your things and head out. Please let me know if you are adding anything from this room to your inventory. The door slides open with a soft woosh sound.
The hall outside is still and the air stale.

Dieter - Mage
Try the one that needs the grey card?
OCC: Dieter will take the item he figured out and three of the disks. How should they be described in his inventory?

Grimes - Fighter
Grimes picks up a #56 and #57 device and puts them in his bag. He'll take a couple of the disks too. He'll also grab a couple of the square things that he couldn't figure out, and he suggests bringing all the cased egg things with them. (Can we fit in a holding sack or something?)
Grimes also suggests the grey card portal.

Re: Chapter 24 - The Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, part 1
You set out, opening the grey card portal.
In the center of the room is what appears to be an altar. It is supported by a single metal column and 2 arms are bent towards the door. The wall opposite the door is made entirely of glass, although this is too dark to see through.
There are 3 skeletons sprawled near the altar.

Re: Chapter 24 - The Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, part 1
Grey - it's been crazy busy here the past couple of days. I'd like Ulster to try figuring out some of the things we haven't identified yet. Can we do that and date it to overnight, or do it now? I'd like to figure out what #56 and #57 do, at a minimum.
Either way, Ulster would take a laser pistol and 5 discs (if available). Possibly others, depending on whether I can still play with some stuff.
Having Ulster fiddle with complicated devices may not be the greatest idea, but, hey, no one else volunteered.
Some rolls, if needed:
56: [1d10] = 8 [1d10] = 5 [1d10] = 5 [1d10] = 10 [1d10] = 4
57: [1d10] = 5 [1d10] = 3 [1d10] = 2 [1d10] = 7 [1d10] = 2

Re: Chapter 24 - The Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, part 1
No problemo
Earlier...
The druid tries to figure out the first item (56). This could perhaps be a potion bottle or a flask strapped to a number of tubes. The base of the bottle has a silvery lid with a knob in the center. The bottle flask is bound in black leather and silver. From the top of this, a broad metal band encircles a number of tubes. Out one end stick 3 large projecting tubes, while the other has but a single tube, with a small hole in its end. There is a fluted knob on the side with a line across its top. There are 2 markings above it - a small dot and big 0. Ulster fiddles with it and then it discharges with a ffft and he hears something hit the wall next to him. He looks to where he heard the noise and sees ten or so needles embedded in the wall. He turns back to the device but can't figure out how to make it do that again. (You can continue to try)
He examines the other object (57). This looks like a glass bottle or retort with a pimpled or warty surface and a black handle on one side. Inside the bottle may be seen threads, wires, globes, and a rod. The broad end of the bottle has a rounded metal plate with several brass prongs sticking out of it The narrow end is capped with a silver sheath and golden ball. The black handle has a round panel, largerthan a coin, with a rivet in the center. Ulster gets this one nearly immediately, perhaps because of its more "natural" shape. He determines that this paralysis pistol is fired by squeezing the handle, pointing the broad end of the pistol toward the target. When fired there will be a humming noise and many flashing lights and sparks will go off inside. A small number of sparks will shoot from the golden ball at the narrow end, but the ray from the other end will be invisible. If the small button in the handle is pushed, the raised disc will pop open, revealing a spot for a power disc.
Meanwhile...

Re: Chapter 24 - The Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, part 1
Another charge is expended, this time the needles flying into the floor, missing the druid's foot by inches. He popped open the magazine (which looks like the boxes found with the discs) and managed to push it back in again. He thinks he is close, but needs just a little more time. Or he could give up...
Re: Chapter 24 - The Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, part 1
Ulster may not be terribly bright, but he is determined.
[1d10] = 2 [1d10] = 9 [1d10] = 9 [1d10] = 4 [1d10] = 9

Algrim finds some cover to stand behind while the druid almost blasts his own foot off.

Re: Chapter 24 - The Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, part 1
The druid finally figures out where the needles are coming from and what is triggering them. The Needler Pistol seems interesting and uses the clips found with the power discs (there are 20 clips of 10 shots each, the pistol holding 8 of 10 charges in this clip).
Re: Chapter 24 - The Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, part 1
Needles. How appropriate for a druid, he thinks.
Added to inventory:
1 Needler Pistol
1 Laser Pistol
1 Laser Rifle
1 Paralysis Pistol
5 Power Discs
5 Needler Clips
Do we have any idea of the range of each weapon?

Code: Select all
Needler Pistol 10/20/30
Paralysis Pistol 20/40/60
Laser Pistol 40/80/120
Laser Rifle 60/120/240
Grenades (as javelin) 20/40/60
Re: Chapter 24 - The Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, part 1
Did we figure out how the grenades work?
Also, if no one else is taking power discs, Ulster will stash a total of 10 if he can. We don't want to run out of batteries.

Dieter - Mage
Watching the druid with an arched eyebrow: Hmmm... very interesting. Excellent work my friend.
OCC: I am assuming Dieter can also determine the use of the needle and paralysis pistol by watching Ulster. Let me know if this is not the case.
OCC: Dieter nabs a paralysis and laser pistol with 3 additional power disks. He'll also nab a needle pistol with two extra mags.
Commenting on the room with the altar: Is this a place of worship?

Castinus, after his previous luck with the blaster, is content to let others try out the weapons. He advances to the "altar" to try to make sense of it.
These are ghouls. They hang out in graveyards, they have long tongues, and they eat people.
