Crab Breakfast
Waterday, 24th of Reaping
Early morning, Slightly Cooler, Less Muggy

Avalaa and Chauncey enjoy some free cakes and all the happy commiserations, but they have more important things on their minds. They eventually disappear into the back of the Hi-Lo and aren't seen from again.......for a while. The big slobbering dog Rollo follows and sits obediently outside while the wizards share their life's work with one another. (the spell copying will take a couple of hours)

Monocar, Alordan, and Luther eat their fill and begin discussing the tactics they would like to use on their troll hunt. Luther tells the others that he will need to do a bit of foraging, but anyone that would like to help him out is more than welcome.

Jack was out and about earlier, kicking around in the dirt and the discarded crab shells, but he must have gone back to his shack for something.

Raythan, Saracen, Lightfinger, and Sotha are all around here somewhere as well, enjoying the feast and thinking about what they will do next.

There is still no sign from the group that went to check out the river trail. Mr. Nehru just shakes his head and winces if asked about them, knowing that groups who don't return from the jungle is not at all an uncommon thing here. He doesn't discuss such things during the revelries, however.

At one point, Mr. Nehru has one of his elven friends shimmy up a tall tree and look out over the sea towards the mainland. He slides back down gracefully to announce that he sees a ship on the horizon that is headed this way. The happy crowd of villagers lets out a cheer once the news is announced. (the ship will arrive a little later this morning)

Lightfinger gets a bowl of fried crab, butter and grits.

Ignored by the Hag, Arte slithers thru the crowd until he is side-by-side with Nalissa. Saying nothing, he winks as he hands her the bowl and again vanishes into the crowd. He'll skirt the crowd when able, still on the lookout for the elusive Mage.

Alordan raises an eyebrow at the mention of a ship arriving. To Mr. Nehru 'Good sir, what do you expect to arrive today on that ship?"

"No no, not at all," says Avalaa, looking at Chauncey's book of spells. "My own family has suffered at the hands of humanoids.
Making an example of one seems quite fitting."

Avalaa casts his own magical reading spell and begins looking over the Sleep charm. "You're exactly right. Elegant is the perfect word.

Avalaa gives up the spot at the desk where both books can be easily examined. "Please, go first, in honor of your defeat of the crab."
"I'd be delighted," says Chauncey in a rare moment of being appropriately polite. Though outwardly restrained, inside he's quite thrilled to have found this source of a new spell. He begins copying, exactly, the formulas and diagrams on the page, yet somehow, as is the way with magic, they come out correct yet entirely different looking on his page - a quirk that always only served to heighten his ongoing fascination with the craft. "My triangles are circular, circular, circular," he chants quietly to himself, so focussed he has seemingly forgotten Avalaa is even there...

Mr. Nehru responds enthusiastically.

"Well I believe there will be more hard working townspeople like the good folks you see around you. There will also likely be a new batch of adventuring types such as yourselves. I let Captain Quark handle all of the transportation logs, so I cant really say who is on board with any certainty."

In between mouthfuls of crab cake, he continues.

"I can only hope that they are as resourceful as your crew. This crab meat is an incredible boon for the hungry townspeople......and it should last us for days. Thank you again my good man!"

Avalaa

Avalaa quietly watches as Chauncey translates the spell into his book. He makes sure that nothing disturbs the process, and keeps all distractions at bay.

Lightfinger does not spot the elusive old wizard known only as Weird Harold anywhere during the mornings festivities.

Alordan listens to the words of the towns makeshift leader as he talks about the incoming ship.

Avalaa and Chauncey remain in the back office at the Hi-Lo, their cooperative dealings going quite well so far. No flames or even smoke can be seen exiting the building.

I will push this along to the ships arrival shortly. The wizards will be preoccupied until then anyway. If there is something you want to address before then, please do so soon.

"Finished!" says Chauncey after a good long while of diligent copying. He stands up and begins gathering his ink, quill and spell books, then realizes one of these spell books isn't his, it isn't his at all!

"Oh! Avalaa. I got quite carried away there and forgot where I was... lost in the moment, as it were." he says, then asks,"Eh... have you gone yet?" Upon learning that Avalaa has not in fact, "gone yet," he will hand over his tome, opened to the Sleep spell once again. "Please, 'knock yourself out,' sir," he says trying out a friendly colloquialism.

Avalaa

Avalaa smiles. "I understand completely. I could tell you were thoroughly engrossed in your work. Easy to lose track of things under such conditions."

"Now, let me see if I remember how this is done..." Avalaa grins at Chauncey to let him know he is making a jest and then sits quietly at the table and composes himself as his master taught him, opening his mind to the wild vortices of magic all around him. He lets his mind abandon normal logic and accept other truths and powers. Through long practice, this takes only a few moments, and then he opens his eyes and accepts the truths he sees on the pages of Chauncey's book. He adapts them readily to his own formulae and truths and begins the process of translation and committing the Sleep charm to his own pages.

After The Crab Breakfast
Waterday, 24th of Reaping
Mid Morning, Hot, Muggy

While the wizards draw complicated sigils and other geometric shapes and phrases into their book of spells, the breakfast party begins to wind down. The rest of the town starts to go back about their business of cleaning up the mess and gets back to their normal chores.

The ship on the horizon starts to grow larger to the naked eye, getting closer as the hours pass by. Just before lunchtime, the ship begins to pull up close to the long floating bamboo dock that stretches out into the water. Most of the townies seem excited to see what this new shipload of settlers and adventurers will bring, but more than a few are likely far more concerned to see if there will be any more crates of food supplies coming ashore.

Actions?

The spell trading was a total success so the wizards are now free to put down their quills. :D

Avaala

"Done." says Avaala, as his breathing returns to normal. He looks up at Chauncey. "A complete success I'd say, sir!" He stands and offers to shake Chauncey's hand. "I hope we can do this again in the future!"

Avaala carefully seals his inks and cleans his quills, and packs them back away. "Just think, one day, I'll be able to pass along to my own students that this Sleep charm came from Chauncey himself!" he adds, smiling gently. "It's been a pleasure, sir."

"Aha, well, yes, I suppose you will. A pleasure, I'm sure," says Chauncey returning the handshake, awkwardly. "Indeed, 'any time,' as you say. I'm sure there are ancient magics to be uncovered deep in there, in caverns, tombs, what have you." he says, gesturing towards the jungle side of the hut. "We might, acting together and independently, root them out. Now, I believe I'll go follow up on this Troll hunt and see what's 'in the works.'"

Chauncey walks outside and looks around for troll hunters. Seeing none in the immediate vicinity, he begins to question the locals, until he sees Avalaa run by saying something about missing children. He doesn't particularly like children, come to think of it, he's never really known any, but he supposes letting them perish in the wilderness is in bad form. He'll follow after Avalaa to see what there is to be done.

Lightfinger also follows.

Wait for me! Some of those kids might be playing with Monkoons!

"Ah, yes! The Monkoons. Who was our Monkoon specialist again? Oh, ah, Devri... oh my. Hmmmm." says Chauncey.

Mighty Saracen seems a bit distracted on this day of celebration for some reason, almost as if he is disturbed or even frightened about something. The ginger half-orc sits alone on the beach for a long time. He appears to be trying to clean off some glass fragments in the sea by rubbing them vigorously with sand and using the salty water to clean them. He continuously scrubs the glass hard, wiping it clean on his orange robes before peering through it towards the hot sun.

It is possible that the poor red haired warrior priest has simply been out in this oppressive sun and heat too long. Or maybe he has contracted the initial stages of some mind altering jungle brain fever. He seems very focused in his work, despite everything that is going on around him at the moment.

The New Arrivals
Waterday, 24th of Reaping
High Noon, Hot, Muggy

The islands residents seem pretty excited about this new ship coming into town. With their moods improved by their full bellies, they cheer and greet the newcomers as they exit the long dock and enter the sandy town. Most keep a close eye on the cargo that is being brought in, hoping that it is mostly foodstuffs.

There are a dozen more human families with children and elderly that disembark the ship, along with a few more green gilled adventurers of differing races that make their way ashore from the wobbly dock. There is one blond haired, blue-eyed man of median height and build with an appearance of a poverty-stricken wanderer. He is dressed in a set of brown and tan canvas pants and shirt, a belt with pouches, and a pair of poorly made leather shoes. Only the fact that he carries a halberd and some javelins in a quiver makes it apparent that he is not a beggar.

The majority of the ships passengers seem to be dwarves, however. Several dozen of them help each other carry large crates and barrels down the long dock. Whoever they are, they have brought a lot of cargo along with them. The dwarves are pleasant enough when greeted by the townsfolk, though none of them seem overly friendly. Once ashore, their group gathers up all of their cargo, dragging it up the sand towards the logging tail and piling it up neatly on the western side, right at the edge of the jungle.

Captain Quark shouts out orders to his crew the whole time folks are collecting their gear and heading into town. He seems like he is in a worse than normal mood today and as soon as he spots Mr. Nehru greeting the newcomers, he begins walking up the dock towards the beach. Once the newcomers start to get their bearings around town, Mr. Nehru and Captain Quark head off in the direction of the captain’s private tower.

Jack, lost boy:

At the sight of the approaching ship, Jack loses interest in searching the beach. He scampers to the town pier to watch the big boat dock and its passengers disembark, especially the funny dwarves.

Then he quietly sneaks after that mean jerk, Captain Quark, to secretly eavesdrop on what he has to say to Mr. Nehru.

Jaxsen

The blond man with the apparent poverty issues walks down the ship's plank. He smiles as he sees all the people moving around, performing their functions. 'I need to find my place here,' he thinks. 'I know I have something to contribute. I may only be a grub, but even the grub has its place.'

He stops the first person who gets close to him. "Excuse me, but who is the master of this great hive?"
