Earc takes the coins.
Anything else?

What's your action? Keep going up stream in hopes of reaching the tunnel entrance north of the fork before dark?

Earc of Toll's Tower

"Let's continue on upstream and hope we find the tunnel entrance north of the fork before dark," Earc says to the others.

If nobody disagrees, then he begins moving in that direction...

You travel upriver for the rest of the day, until the sun begins to set. You realize you were set back by your late sleep and time with the orcs; you pass the river fork and realize you have about three hours more to travel.

Camp, or continue on to 1:00am?

Earc Orctongue

"We should rest. If we march on tired, we could miss it. Or miss something else important. Let's keep watch with at least two people at a time in case those morlocks come back..."

'Blackjack' Amistad

Will add a bow to his inventory and stash the arrows into his quiver alongside the javelins. I agree with resting, perhaps higher off the ground this time, no fires. I doubt the crawlers will be climbing trees and we could use Achaedany's trap making skills to set a snare or two.

Olaf? Does he consent to sleep in a tree? :)

(FYI - trying to sleep on a tree branch with a bedroll will require a difficult Dex check in order for it to be a restful experience. Achaedany and Akkara can both rig some traps if they're on first watch together. Since there was confusion about watches, please set up your own schedule between the five of you. Earc needs eight restful hours to get spells back. The rest of you need six restful hours to not take a -1 penalty to hit.)

Earc of Toll's Tower

Earc nods in agreement, "I agree with Olaf. Even if I don't fall out and break my neck, I'm not likely to get a restful sleep up in a tree. We need to either bring more people with us next time or maybe some guard dogs so that we can have warning of their approach. For now, if Achaedany and Akkara take the first watch, then they can rig some traps - at least warning us of their approach. Then Blackjack and Olaf can take the second watch. I'll take the third by myself...

OOC: 4 hours/4 hours/3 hours? That is the most efficient way to get everyone their necessary rest time.

Akkara and Achaedany take the first shift, setting some simple snares with the orcish spears to provide some early warning and defense should the party be assailed. At the end of their four hour shift, they wake Olaf and Blackjack and head to get some rest.

It is not long before dawn, about halfway through Olaf and Blackjack's shift, when the Morlocks arrive. It is a pair of Morlock scouts, working through the forest. They manage to evade the perimeter traps, but in the process alert the guards to their presence - nobody is surprised. They hum to each other, about 30' out, where they are dimly lit by the campfirelight, dubious of the party camping in the forest, blowguns in-hand.

Blackjack wakes Earc, Akkara, and Achaedany. Earc drinks one-eighth of his potion and disappears from sight. The two women roll from their bedding and grab their crossbows. Blackjack tells Akkara to talk to the morlocks. The others wait while she does so.

Akkara calls out to them in their own tongue. They react with alarm, immediately raising and firing their blowguns. The darts both fly forth, both striking Achaedany. The curmudgeonly wan hisses at the pain. "Oh hell no," she says through a grimace as she fights off the paralysis. She fires her readied crossbow in response, the bolt flying wide.

Olaf fires his crossbow at the Morlocks. When he sees the bolt sail harmlessly between them, he charges the closest one, twirling his new chain in the air and flinging the end of it around the morlock's feet.

Crossbow (THAC0 19): [1d20+1] = 8+1 = 9 [1d8] = 7
Chain (THAC0 19): [1d20+2] = 19+2 = 21 [1d6+2] = 5+2 = 7 (Entangle on 19-20)

"I BE LIKING THE CHAINS!" he cries.

'Blackjack' Amistad

Fed up with having his sleep constantly disturbed by crawlers he launches a wildly assault, hacking violently at the nearest Morlock.

Axe melee [1d20+2] = 20+2 = 22 Axe damage [1d8+2] = 8+2 = 10

Both Morlocks fire darts at Olaf, but they plink off of his armor.

The Morlocks hardly know what hit them - Blackjack's axe dismembers one while Olaf tangles the other iN his chain, capturing it.
