Jungle Dangers! - Round 3

Image

Birds scatter, the sounds of the jungle hush, and the ground shakes to the footfalls of the frogehmoth. Getafix desperately holds onto the tree as the amphibian monstrosity's tongue tries to pull him in. The druid clumsily hacks at the tongue but the ent blade hits the tree instead. The powerful tongue snaps Getafix from the tree, into the froghemoth's massive fanged maw where it crunches and tears the druid up in seconds (35 HP.)

Meanwhile, Wulfhart and Gryev struggle with the tree trunk monster. It lashes out, one stalk striking Gryev (1 HP) and two hitting Wulfhart (4 HP.)

Image

"Damnations!" curses Thundarr, tripping on the serprentine vines around the menacing tree trunk monster.

With further waves of her hands in arcane patterns, Ariel volleys a quartet of shimmering bolts that flay (12 HP) the heavily wounded tree trunk monster. It is dead. The stalks collapse, freeing Wulfhart and Gryev.

Image

Groyn the dwarf turns his attention to the gargantuan frog monster. He takes aim and fires his cross bow, which hits the beast in the shoulder. The monster doesn't seem to notice. Candidiasis joins in attacking the froghemoth, intoning secret tribal words of power to shoot arrows of agrofemimagic that sear into the beast. Green blood spurts from the three holes but don't slow the creature down.

Porphyry the psychopomp opens an occultic pathway through which a ray of pain passes through his hands to hit the froghemoth (2 HP.) It barely seems to register an effect.

Fingal, Wrenly, Andover and Swilbosh climb down to jungle floor from the balcony. They join Asherrion who watches the terrible battle unfold.

All the ruckus wakes up the six sleeping vegenoids. Fingal notices first, being on the look-out for periheral dangers.

Image

The plant men fall upon Brother Puddington and Guido, who are at the outskirts of the battle. Guido's armor and instinctive shielding of his body stops most of the assaults (1 HP), but Brother Puddington fares worse (5 HP) as wooden claws and pummeling fruit rake and bruise the cleric.

Actions for Round 4!
- Monsters win initiative.
- Please see campaign roller archive for rolls.
- Thundarr fumbled but fortunately nothing bad happened.
- Though someone mentioned killing the sleeping vegenoids, it wasn't actually done, so...
- If there isn't a posted action for Puddington, Gryev and Getafix, I'll move for them.
- HP status: viewtopic.php?p=59033#p59033

Andover recoils in horror. "Kazagk Ungoliant!"* he cries, resorting to orcish for the curse. "'Let's recover our strength,' I said. 'We're in no shape to venture further down,' I said. 'We need to figure out how these artifacts work,' I said. Did anyone listen? Fools! Idiots!"

The ranger stays away from the giant frog monster, hacking at anything that comes near him. Except the other members of his party. Probably.

The Ravenous Gryev gnaws happily on any tender bits of the monstrous tree stump he can find.

I'm unsure if Porphyry is still on the overlook, or down in the jungle with the others. If he's in the jungle, he'll make his way with all haste to the rope for a strategic withdrawal. If he's still on the overlook, he'll lob another spell down at the froghemoth.
Choke
Level: 2
Duration: 1 round per level Range: 90'
This spell causes a pair of spectral hands to clasp the throat of a single target and to begin choking them. Each round of the spell the victim suffers 1d4 damage and makes attack rolls at -2. The victim is allowed a saving throw when the spell is cast, with success reducing the choking damage by half (rounded up).
Due to the ghostly nature of the choking hands, it is not possible for the victim to wrench them away. However the choke is negated if the caster is killed or knocked unconscious.

Given everyone's positioning, could Candy hit the veggiemen with a lightning bolt while avoiding her allies? If not, could she hit the giant frog bastard without others?

"That's our druid! Spit it out! Spit it out!" yells Wrenly as the gargantuan monster crunches horribly on Getafix.
Judging it to be a safe distance away at 70', he launches, for the second time in as many minutes, his (now favorite) Abrupt Incineration spell at the behemoth, catching him precisely amidships:

Fingal jumps from the rope and gets his back against the metal wall before something else pops out at him.

He pulls out the laysor pistol and fires off a round at one of the veginoids that are attacking Puddington.

A lump of fear and sorrow forms in Wulfhart's throat as he sees Getafix masticated mercilessly. He knows to enter this fray will require him at his best, so he pulls his potion of healing from his pack and downs it. The warrior stands almost as tall as the frogenoid as he prepares to attack...

Does he get adjustments to hit/damage in his enlarged state?

Alebelly, go ahead and roll 2d8 for the heal potion. The Enlarge gives you 18.00 Str. +3+6.

Candy's lightning can get three vegenoids safely, or the froghemoth. Edit in which you'd like.

Greyarea, feel free to edit in the damage on the Burning Hands spell.

Porphry is on the balcony.

I'll apply Andover's attack to a vegenoid.

"Slimy fuck!" yells Candy at the giant frog chewing on her druid friend acquaintance. She pulls a small patch of ermine fur from her pouch, wraps it around a crystal drawn from another pocket in her filthy robe, and cries aloud "Uckfay isthay ogfray upway!" A thick bolt of lightning strikes the frog giant.

Healing potion [2d8] = 15

Jungle Dangers! - Round 4

Image

Wulfhart staggers back from the dead tree-stump monster and quaffs his potion of healing. Cuts close, bruises fade and the northern warrior feels reinvigorated some. Not being in direct immediate danger, Gryev the Ravenous lives up to his namesake and begins gnawing on the fleshy innards of the trunk.

The adventurers swing into action against the behemoth batrachian. Candidiasis the shamaness gathers the magi-electrical energies in the air about her and releases a bolt of lightning that strikes the froghemoth in chest. It roars in pain and anger. The bolt is quickly followed by an impressive incendiary ball of magic flame launched by Wrenly the Brown, which showers the monster in fire. The froghemoth appears moderately wounded, and very angry.

Groyn the dwarf fires off another crossbow bolt which twangs into the creature's right tentacle. From the balcony, Porphry the satyr invokes ghostly hands that attempt to get around what passes for the throat of the froghemoth, but can't quite secure proper position to have much effect. Ariel the other-worldly sorceress cries out magic words that materialize a glowing bow from which an oozing arrow of light shoots forth. Ariel's aim is just off the mark and she misses the froghemoth.

Image

Fingal, looking to save Guido and Brother Puddington, fires his laser pistol into the melee at an attacking vegenoid. He misses and hits Guido in the back (12 HP), piercing through the cleric's splint mail. Guido cries out in pain. He staggers forward but the primal urge to survive kicks in and the mindless cleric swings his mace at the vegnoid in front of him. His god must be with him as the blow lands on the vegenoid's head and it staggers back gravely wounded.

Brother Puddington instinctually fights back against the menacing vegenoids attacking him. He slams his mace into a plant man, caving its chest in. The freak of flora falls down dead. Asherrion bravely leaps into the fray, getting close enough to unleash his elven flames spell.
Image
Fire fans would from his fingertips and ignites a vegenoid, who screams and runs away 20' before collapsing dead. Andover the ranger cuts down another vegenoid, cutting it in twain with Spellslicer. Swilbosh the lizardman thrusts with his trident at a vegenoid threatening Brother Puddington, and the three-pronged head pierces its face and cuts into two eyes and nose. The green monster falls back dead. Thundarr the barbarian finally connects with his enemy, a vegenoid. The magic Sun Sword cuts the body in two at the waist (10 HP.)

There is one vegenoid left standing. Trapped in the combat, it attacks Guido, scraping his face (2 HP) with a club.

Image

The furious froghemoth tenses its body then hops, flying through the air to land amidst the party. Eighteen feet tall of quivering tough flesh, flailing tentacles, deadly maw lash out! The giant tongue, perhaps drawn to prey that resembles its typical reptilian and jungle diet, darts out and captures Swilbosh. It draws the lizardman into its huge jaws and chews (15 HP.)

Actions for Round 5!
- Please see dice roller archive for rolls.
- Party gets initiative.
- 46 HP from lightining, fire ball and bolt.
- Fingal's miss into melee results in Guido getting hit for 12.

Porphyry sighs, leaning over the edge of the balcony. "I have discharged such spells as will be helpful during hostilities such as these—to distressingly small effect. I suppose one must turn to less elegant means." He retrieves his sling and loads it.
If the Froghemoth is within range of a slingstone, Porphyry will fire at it.
Sling (THACO 19) [1d20+3] = 13+3 = 16 Damage Sm: [1d4+1] = 3+1 = 4 Lg: [1d6+1] = 1+1 = 2

Wulfhart strides towards the behemoth, nearly tall enough to look it in the eye. With a mighty swing, he (hopefully) hacks a huge hole in the side of the beast with his magical axe (includes to hit/damage bonuses for enlarge)

Candy stands, mouth agape as the barrage of lightning, fire and bolts do not finish off the creature.

Nervous, she fumbles with her ring, freeing a spell that sends yet another barrage of bolts at the creature.
Kids - never use the same unusual verb in two consecutive sentences. This is bad writing.
