The Vell
A mysterious massive rock that appeared as if from another plane, out in the ocean.
The coming of the Vell, several hundred years ago changed the atmosphere. It is seen as a place of both blessing and curse.
Physical effects triggered by the Vell were a change in the weather. Regular seasons of rain now come which water the previously harsh and barren new world land, causing growth of the prairie. Hence settlers coming to ranch. With the savannah blossoming, migratory herds, hunted by savage nomadic gnoll packs traverse the plains.
The waters around the Vell, for it appeared out of the ocean, warmed up causing more plankton to bloom. This changed the migration of whales to feed and as a consequence the Valk nomads hunt the whales closer to land.
People who go near or on the Vell suffer 'Vell Madness'. It is thought to be a type of radiation sickness, principally exposed in those who try to mine its' depths.
Fragments of Vell rock contain ancient binary and hieroglyphic texts.
Constant storms and whirlpools whip around the rock though other sections have complete calm and sunshine.
Through the storms, strange herds of animals have come through, as if from another plane. Adventurers have gone through, some return healthy and rich with fantastic stories, others return feeble-minded and crippled.
