to start out this, and something that I always throw out to the players since I am not married to any way, do the players want to play with weapon speed, or without weapon speed.

I've never really used it before, but I'm not opposed to it.

Do you have the Campaign ID to link to the die roller?

I prefer to play with weapon speed as it puts those lightly armed and armored types on a slightly more even footing with the two-handed sword wielders. Plus it goes well with casting time for mages which you are also using. But I won’t sulk in a corner if you don’t use it.

Should we wait for the die roller link to roll our characters?

There's no need to wait. You can update your character on the Die Roller with the Campaign ID after the fact and it will still link all rolls for that character.

As it happens, I'm against weapon speed initiative modifiers for the following three reasons:

1) An unnecessary complexity. If we have weapon speed modifiers, then we need modifiers for *every* action. What's the initiative modifier on throwing a chair? On drinking a potion?

2) It's unrealistic. If anything, two-handed weapons should go *before* smaller weapons, due to their superior reach. And really, does it take longer to slash the rope directly in front of you holding up the chandelier with your two-handed sword than with a dagger?

3) Some of the modifiers are *really* outrageous. Two-handed swords have an initiative modifier of plus nine, if memory serves. You are all but guaranteed to go dead last, round after round. Good luck interrupting those spell casters. Yes, I understand that the tradeoff is extra damage. It seems too high a price to pay.

On Weapon speed, I am calling GM privilege and saying that 2 handed weapons have a +5 modifier on weapon speed (on a d10). Otherwise we are going to avoid the weapon speed modifiers as that would be just bookkeeping.

Also, would the players prefer to play two characters, or have the DM play a few "idiots" to flesh out the party, as you really need six PCs for ToEE.

I've never been keen on PCs having more than one character, for a variety of reasons. Having a few NPC fellows along would be fine. Though I'm sure that we'll very rapidly attract more players to the group.

I have some RL friends that I can ask if they'd like to join as well, if I may.

You are welcome to invite players. I might roll up some NPC fellows just in case.

Maybe a ranger?
Or a barbarian. How many opportunities do you have to play one of those? ;)

I thought about a barbarian, but they are not able to associate with clerics or magic-users!!!

I think you'd be okay (but not great) with a barbarian:

"While magic-users will be shunned initially, and always viewed with suspicion, clerical spells of the type used by shamans and witch doctors are not so viewed, though high level clerical spells are suspect."

Regardless, I see that you're building a cleric/ranger which is a pretty sweet combination! That multi-class combination will actually level-up a lot faster so good call.

May I politely suggest folks not post commentary in the player character thread? It's generally reserved for character sheets only. Ooga booga!

I realized my first response was in the actual 'Player Character' thread and made sure to move my second reply to here, just above your (correct) request. Maybe an admin can clean up my initial transgression? :D

Oh, I see Ethan already did. Thanks!
