Chapter 5: Let's Rock!

Season: Mid Fall
Weather: Cold and Snowing!
Moon phase: First Quarter
Location: Red Door

Following their difficult battle in the entrance chamber on their last visit, then group has rested, resupplied, and gotten together with their old friends. Deciding not to use the dwarven stairs on the opposite side of the mountain, you climb up the stairs again, only to find a light snow falling up near the top.

What is the plan?

The doors are closed?

Marching order, lanterns/torches lit, own the doors and listen/look inside.

The doors are closed, but not locked. All seems quiet.

Torgyr steps up, Dwarven bravado on full display. He hooks a thumb in the direction of the doors as he looks back over his shoulder at the others.

"I own these doors."

He'll have a listen, and then crouch and open the doors, allowing those with ranged weapons a chance to aim down the stairs at anything inside.

Everyone gets ready, the door is checked, and you descend into the darkness.

The room is largely as you left it. The little kobold statues are scattered around among the statues of the gods. The beetles seem to have left, and all is quiet. The floor in the area south of the stairs is sticky, and small vermin skitter over the jelly. The room smells like... well, like vomit.

The door to the west is ajar, revealing a hallway. The doors to the south are closed. The doors off to the east and north are (currently) beyond the edge of your torchlight.

Did you mean to say the door to the *west* is open? Based on the map it doesn't look like there's a hallway to the east.

Yes, the door to the *west* is slightly ajar. Sorry, I messed it up at first, but I fixed it (I think).

Edit: ok, I screwed that up again. It's to the west. That'll teach me to rattle off something while my son bangs on the door. Lol

In further conversation with the kobold (after he was charmed) it becomes clear that his story about what is where has changed. We kinda fast forwarded, so I should fill you in...

He now has no idea what is to the west of this room. He had been lying.

To the east is the former lair of the black skeletons, the chapel. Some kobolds were exploring that area, and looted the skeletons and the dwarf bodies there, but you killed them.

What he knows about is south. The kobolds are far south, mostly in natural caves, near the dwarf door.

South of here, between you and the kobolds, there's a big east-west tunnel.

There are orcs on the west end of that tunnel, making aggressive moves, but he doesn't (really) know how many there are.

The stairs down are on the east end of that tunnel. Black skeletons come up from those stairs.

Okay, so do we clear this level and revisit the chapel or something else. Brings me back to the question of 'what is the party focus'?

The rough fighter takes his place in the front rank and gets ready to walk through the doors to the south.

This is a tricky one, because of their prior knowledge of the dungein, but here's a rumor:

There are shades of dead Thulians roaming Dwimmermount. They seek to devour the living.
