Freda chuckles at Elwita's outburst.

"Thank goodness we're not weird lizard hybrids, then. It's only a 10' wall, El! We can climb one of these statues right near the wall and hop right over - they offer plenty of hand- and foot-holes for climbing. If that doesn't work, I'm sure Blodgett can easily climb it, secure a rope on the other side, then throw it over for the rest of us to use. If the drop is too far for him on the other side, he can hold on to one end of the rope and toss the rest down to us and we can lower him down the other side. We'll secure one end here to a statue and we can all repel down the other side, even."

She pulls her 50' hemp rope out of her pack.

"We can use my rope. If we need to cut it, we can do so on the other side so we only cut off what we need."

She looks back through the opening in the west wall and frowns.

"We'll have to leave Kar, though."

Eljayess adds "We had better be quick about it though, go go."

She stows her shield on her back and readies her hands for climbing.

While the others prepare to climb upward, Phanstern searches the walls for unusual cracks, seams, or other indications of hidden doors.

Blodgett will do the same, but before he begins searching, he says 'I'll go up the rope first if you all want.'

Day 1– In the complex - 1:52am

.

The party muses for a bit and then decides to go over the wall. It's easy enough to find a good, cowering, statue to secure the rope. Freda throws it over the wall. As Blodgett climbs Phanstern can't see anything different about the wall. Both Phanstern and Blodgett (precariously, but comfortably perched on top of the narrow wall) see that it's obviously not well made, but it's sturdy. If the orc's made it, it is excellent construction for them above ground. They obviously didn't want the basilisks to get out of this corner of the courtyard.

Blodgett quietly relays down to the rest of the party what he sees "I think we can enter this area safely. It's large and open to the north, and there are burned out rooms to the west. I don't see or hear anything. We must be quiet and cautious."

Freda will climb the wall soon after Blodgett does. Once on the other side, she'll ready her bow and a normal arrow and cover the rest of the party as they make their way over.

Elwita begins to usher the rest of the party members over the wall one at a time. Whichever person goes last before her, she tells them to provide instructions to those already over on the other side:

Concerned that her naturally bulky mass, coupled with the fact that she's wearing metal armor, will make climbing difficult (and not wanting to bash through another wall), Elwita will tie the end of the rope around her waist and give a tug when she's ready for the rest of the party to help pull her over.

Eljayess scrambles up the rope as best she can and fans out to the right, providing some protection for the rest. She whispers "Hurry up."

So who has the maglite?

Going over the wall goes well, but it's slow going, particularly when you aren't trying to make too much noise. Between guards walking on the roof (they never get near enough for you to see them, but you see shadows and hear them) and tugging the dwarf over the wall you are all tired but happy to be on the other side.

Phanstern's lantern confirms Blodgett's reports. To the west is burnt down buildings, almost all the way burned to the ground. Straight ahead is ruins of what must have once been an inner courtyard.

Elwita collects herself after the grueling climb. She grumbles: "I'd just assume stay out of the open courtyard. Agreed?" Without waiting, she turns to Blodgett: "Care to do a little recon on those burnt buildings over there? Maybe one of them will possess another exit?"

If elven chain is a quieter armor, perhaps Kayen could go along as an escort.

ooc: If Kayen does join Blodgett, he can carry the shuttered Maglite, otherwise Blodgett will take it himself. I imagine the Maglite can be used as a communicate device where flashing the light once means one thing (e.g. it's safe) and flashing it more than once could mean something else (e.g. needs help).

Ogre, still disgruntled about being clawed, bitten and otherwise abused by the various residents of this complex stands ready with his shield on his arm and his hand on the pommel of his still-sheathed sword.

Blodgett swallows hard, but otherwise agrees to go have a look at the burned out buildings, as long as someone will go with him. He takes the magical light. I will flash the lamp thrice if it is safe to follow, so there is no confusion. Anything else and we need help!

"Tell you what... I'll come with you." Elwita says as she pats her equally short pal on the shoulder. "We'll just need to progress slowly so I can minimize the noise this blasted stuff makes." she says as she taps on her plate armor.

Elwita takes hold of the Maglite. To Blodgett: "No sense in making you carry this; distracting you from your other business." To the rest of the group: "Three flashes means safe. Anything else, come running to support."

Freda nods, quietly wishes them luck, then fades back into the shadows, watching their progress while leaning against the wall.

She'll have her bow in hand with an arrow nocked, but not pulled.
