OOC I
Re: OOC I
Canun is much better armored than Tippin and has no fewer hit points. He really is our best option for a front-line fighter at the moment.
And Tippin is best located where he can use his bow. If Tippin has to fight hand-to-hand, we should be running away instead.

Does Keebler get no sense for how far the passage goes?
Re: I. Tree Cave
No less than 20-feet. Possibly more.Zhym wrote:Does Keebler get no sense for how far the passage goes?

Infravision is 60', right?

Re: OOC I
AdaRue is fine with her place in that order. I agree that Canun should step up here. He can let more people know what we are doing wrong that way.
Re: I. Tree Cave
Correct.Zhym wrote:Infravision is 60', right?
But all you see is a blue hue which doesn't exactly provide a high level of detail, making it difficult to accurately predict in your current conditions. It's entirely possible that the reason he only sees 20- or 30-feet is because that is the length of the passage.
It's just difficult/impossible to know for sure with the level of detail you have.

I'm not sure what, on a cave wall, would be considered a "living thing" that would radiate heat energy? Maybe moss? Or fungus? But those things won't exist down every passage.LL: 44 wrote:"Many monsters and demi-humans have infravision. Characters

Re: OOC I
Hey all - Canun has a charisma of 4 - I tend to think that low charisma means more than just being ugly. So I am going to make him a bit insufferable. Let me know if I'm laying it on too thick.Rusty Tincanne wrote:AdaRue is fine with her place in that order. I agree that Canun should step up here. Not at all!!! Very entertaining the way you are managing it!dmw71 wrote:Let me know if I'm laying it on too thick.

I know I look forward to your updates, so I have no issue with how you're playing him. LolAleBelly wrote:Let me know if I'm laying it on too thick.

kensanata, let's move the discussion here.
kensanata wrote:Hi all! I was looking for a campaign over on the intro forum and Dave said I should just apply on this thread. I signed up for the dice roller and I'm ready for character creation, but this is all new territory for me so let me know if you need it done differently.
STR: [1d6] = 1 + [1d8] = 4 + 4
DEX: [1d6] = 4 + [1d8] = 1 + 4
CON: [1d6] = 2 + [1d8] = 4 + 4
INT: [1d6] = 6 + [1d8] = 5 + 4
WIS: [1d6] = 6 + [1d8] = 6 + 4
CHA: [1d6] = 3 + [1d8] = 7 + 4
With these stats, the poor guy doesn't look like a great fighter, no dwarf, barely an elf, definitely not a halfling... I think I'm going with wizard!
Looking at the house rules, I get read magic and I get to pick two 1st level spells and a 2nd level spell (which I'll be unable to cast). I'm going to pick charm person, hold portal and knock.
Re: OOC I
Nice rolls.
Your character's physical stats are fairly average (which isn't bad), but your mental abilities are really good!
Correct. You get 'read magic' automatically. You also get to add two other 1st-level spells to your spell book, plus one 2nd-level spell. Of course, you're only able to cast the single 1st-level spell, which must be memorized as normal, but you'll have three total to choose from. Then, once you reach 3rd-level and are able to cast 2nd-level spells, you'll have one of your choosing readily available.kensanata wrote:I think I'm going with wizard!

Both will certainly be options, but I guess I haven't formally decided how this will be handled since 3rd-level spells won't come into play until reaching 5th-level. That said, I have historically always allowed a player to just automatically give their caster a new spell once a new spell level has been attained, but it could be fun to role play the new spell aquisition process. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it.LL: 19 wrote:"The Labyrinth Lord may allow
these spell casters to consult a magic-user guild when they
gain levels, and the guild will give them spells, determined
randomly, so that the spell books contain the same number of
spells the characters are able to cast. This practice might not
be allowed, and instead characters may depend entirely on
finding scroll spells to add to a spell book, or finding other
spell books with new spells in them."
For now, the first thing you can/should do is head over to the 'Character Sheets' thread and press the 'post reply' button. This is where you'll add your character sheet. I've never really used the character sheet from the die roller (I use text character sheets instead), but there is a 'Char Sheet' button on your character which will give you a snippet of code like this, where 'xxxx' is your character's number:
[sheet]xxxx[/sheet]
You just insert that [sheet] tag into your post in the 'Character Sheet' thread and you're on your way. In addition to the sheet tag, you can insert text, or images, or whatever, so feel free to play around with it.
Once your character is finalized, I'll review it... then figure out an opportune time and means to get him worked into the game.
If you have any questions, this is definitely the place to ask.
Good luck!

I run a blog. I also run a site for campaign wikis. I wrote a face generator, a character generator, a dungeon mapper, a Traveller subsector generator, and a hex map generator (editable as text).
Re: OOC I
Actually, I house ruled starting hit points, so you should use the following macro: [1d2+2].kensanata wrote:HP: [1d4] = 3
You're guaranteed to still start with 3, but have a 50/50 chance to up that to 4.

Re: OOC I
Ah, nice. I only remember seeing the changes to thieves and fighters in the house rules thread.
But the result is the same.
HP [1d2+2] = 1+2 = 3

Re: OOC I
Ahh, I see what you're saying. The fighter and thief changed the die they used, but the overall generation method every class uses is different. Half their hit die is guaranteed and the other half is determined randomly:kensanata wrote:Ah, nice. I only remember seeing the changes to thieves and fighters in the house rules thread.

[1d3+3]: Cleric, Elf, Halfling, Thief
[1d4+4]: Dwarf

Re: OOC I
Assuming equipment. Starting gold and all that works as it usually does, I got this:
Starting gold: [3d8x10] = 17x10 = 170
And then I spent it all on various things. We'll see how useful the various things will be in game. The current encumbrance house rules are definitely beneficial for me!
I think the character is ready for review.
As for the extra language, I have no idea. Any suggestions for a charming magic user?

Re: OOC I
A few things:kensanata wrote:I think the character is ready for review.
- Your wisdom bonus should be +2.
- Can you please add your weapons to the 'Weapons' tab on your sheet?
- You have 'Arcane Lock' listed as a 1st level spell (memorized); it's actually a 2nd level spell. You can still keep it in your spell book, but it would need to replace 'Knock' which is also a 2nd level spell. Either way, you get to add a replacement 1st level spell.
- Love the background. Sounds about right for someone with his mental scores.

You weren't kidding!
I will work him into the game now, but please take a look at the above list (the key issue being the memorized spell).
Welcome!
