Murdoch is already well ahead into the jungle and barely hears Jean-Claude's call. However, something in the flight-leader's tone clues Murdoch in that this could be serious, and so he turns around and sprints back.

Upon seeing the predicament in which Nikolai has found himself, Murdoch helpfully comments: "You're a pilot, aren't you, just fly up!"

Mudoch stares blankly at Jean-Claude, then shrugs and returning to the nearby jungle proceeds to cut some long lengths of thick vines.

NIkolai is thrashing about, trying to get a grip.

Late afternoon; October 3rd, 1937; the island of Sipora, Sumatra

Hanging from the slowly tearing remnants of the rope bridge; sweat broke out across Nikolai Klokov's brow as he glanced down at the long drop down and then back up at the frustrated Jean-Claude Oulette who had laid down flat so that his arms and head were over the cliff's edge and was reaching down to try and grip his fellow pilot's hand but a good ten feet or more separated the two men....

After an interminable length of time, Murdoch came cheerfully over with several tore out lengths of vines and he dropped them down next to Jean-Claude with a nonchalant; "Will these do?" Oulette just muttered in French as he quickly seized the longest length of vine and wrapped it around his arm and then threw the other end down to the big Russian dangling over the edge of the cliff. Nikolia grasped the vine and just as he got a good grip, the ancient rope-bridge remnants finally tore away and fell to the bottom with a clatter as the logs that made up the foot planks banged against the rocky wall of the cliff....

With heaves and grunts, Jean-Claude and Murdoch were able to haul the big Russian up and over the cliff's edge and everyone started to gasping for breath when the sounds of men crashing thru the jungle entered the pilots' ears. Looking over, an angry Captain von Hoffstahl who had acquired another Lugar from someone, along with a trio of German soldiers, all armed, had reached the opposite edge of the chasm and with some cursing in German, they promptly raised their weapons at the pilot trio...

The three men quickly scrambled into the jungle, bullets whizzing past them and slamming into plants and trees all around them; but none of them connected. After the brief, adrenaline filled escape, they looked at the map again and determined that a hill nearby was where the map showed the tomb of Tapatamani to be. Klokov drew the Lugar and cocked it and Jean-Claude did the same for the Bergman submachinegun he had acquired and the men began to carefully look through the dense foliage....
