With the glare of the torchlight fading, and his dwarven dark vision taking over, Thorax waits patiently as the heavy crane from the Yawning Portal taproom lowers him down. He wonders for a brief moment how the silver tongues of Roseheart and Cormack swayed the group to head back down into Undermountain once more. In moments, his boots touch down into the familiar sandy floor of the well, and then the others are lowered into the dungeon, one by one. (Deduct 1gp each). The dungeon is quiet today and your boots cack loudly along the stony floors.

After your group is all in the dungeon, you head over into the forest of pillars room, and then you have a decision to make. Which way?

*I've updated the maps in the Undermountain Locations and Notes Thread*

Thorax suggests that they head back to the Dtow area and look for clues.

Anybody want to second the plan?

Tantos Vek, failed paladin:

The tormented warrior seconds it with a gruff nod of his disfigured head.

DM, in Chapter 8 you might want to let people know about this new thread. If players just search "View Your Posts" on unseenservant, they won't find new posts in your game. :)
1 gp deducted.
Also, does the party possess the Staff of Healing found at the last delve? Thanks.

Happy new year, all.

Just added forward to this topic from our last. You won't have the staff of healing. It was only usable by Clerics of the Knowledge and Invention Dieties. I'm going to say it stayed with Glimble and keep him as an NPC in this game.

Gimble decided to give up adventuring for a while to unlock the secrets of the staff, the next portion of the mystery involves music, so he is going to start taking music lessons ;)

I'll push things forward shortly with my next reply...

You move along the silent stone corridors, heading north at the first pass and then weaving through the stone hallways, past the room of the three king statues in plate armor, standing tall above you in the near darkness. You continue north, turning through a few, familiar twisting paths and opening the heavy stone doors, until you come to the final stretch of corridor that takes you to the long hallway full of statues.

You pass a short corridor to your left, which opens into a large room, in the darkness somewhere in the room is a pale light, which twinkles and dances upon the grey stone of the room, drifting and twirling in ceaseless patterns....

Ahead of you away from this light, is the open doorway leading into the hallway of statues, and then onward to the drow altar (to the right)...

*I've attached the map, to give you guys a better idea of where you are. Your group is the red circle on Map 4, the dancing lights are in the space marked in red as well *

Thorax - "Come, let us not get distracted. To the alter and then investigate from there."

Ignoring the dancing lights for now, you enter the long hall and head down it past the beautifully-carved, lifelike gray stone statues of warlike humans stand atop pedestals in two rows, which stretch down the hall as far as you can see.

Warriors of both sexes are represented, all facing inward. They all seem to be carved— statue and pedestal—from one piece of stone. Someone or something(s) has smashed and chipped away the identfying names on every single pedestal. The vandalized warriors stand silent and motionless as you walk down past them with your weapons raised.

You get to the end of the hallway and open up the double doors that lead into the area where the drow altar had been erected. The doors open hard, but then you illuminate a huge room, which you remember all too well. The room is dark, and you do see a black sooty region where the altar once stood. However, all evidence of the altar has been erased from the room. You see some shapes to your direct right, huddled down along the wall. You aren't sure what they are or if they are moving...

Other than those strange shapes along the wall, the room seems empty....

*there are lots of double doors leading out of the room as shown on map*

Thorax tells the others to prepare and slings a continual light stone down towards the shapes.

Ganon:

Ganon lifts the eyelid of his eye ring which hold his continual light. "I'll check the doors for traps." He starts at the door closest to the were the alter was and works his way down the line. Ganon makes good use out of his new rings. Clinkching his fist he moves it up and down the seams of the doors checking for obstruction that might be wedge in between the frame and the door. A possible sign of triggers.

Tella - Elf Mage

Tella will throw one of her continual light candles toward the shapes.

You roll the continual light objects at the dark area to the right, and your lights illuminate desiccated corpses of giant insects, orcs, and maybe even some humans. They are all wrapped up in webbing that is thick and ropy! It must have been one huge spider that wrapped these bodies up. There is also a bunch of webbing surrounding them and some additional strands up near the ceiling. You probe with your torches, and continual light objects, but can't see a spider anywhere in the room!

Thorax: "Ganon, what's the chance the spider left something useful? I think pretty high. Let's search this and then open on of the doors."

While the others were investigating the corpses, Ganon checks the first three doors, they appear to be safe. He hears Thorax call out to him just before he reaches the most southern door. Glancing back he sees the pile of corpses, and hesitates. His hesitation saves him, the doors were open the slightest crack and an insect leg, huge and barbed on the end grasps out at him missing him by inches!

From the other side of the door he hears whispering inhuman voices jabbering, juicy, tender, juicy, tender, warm bloood....

The insect arm retreats instantly back into the room, the doors are still slightly ajar. The voices fade away to silence.

Tantos Vek, failed paladin:

Before Ganon's eerie encounter, the merciful myrmidon picks up one of Tella's candles and carefully checks the web-wrapped bodies to see if any are human, and alive.

Ganon:

Ganon jumps back. He sticks his ring finger out to shine on the southern door and with his other hand draws his short sword. With eyes fixed on the door he slowly backs up into the room to be closer to his comrades. "Did you see that? Did you hear that? There is something on the other side of that door that wants to eat me."

Thorax "Shall we piton the door or give them what for? Personally O like the thought of only having to hold the door and giving whatever is on the other side what it's due.". Thorax pulls his shield and crosses the room to Stan by the door, prepared to act.

Vek, earlier:

Vek looks over the bodies with closer, but they do seem quite dead. They all have turned an orange yellow color, and are shriveled and desiccated, like little orange mummies. You count perhaps 8-10 large insect bodies some perhaps 6 feet in length, and then 4 orcs and 2 humans. The humans and orcs are still wearing their clothes and armor.

Ganon and others, later:

The double doors are still open a few inches and Ganon still hears scrabbling noises coming through from the other side, but the inhuman, whispery voices have quieted. You could rush the door and close it, if you guys decide to pin it with a stake, it is only open a crack and opens inward toward your room.

Roseheart supports taking out the spiders "after all, they took out the poor bastards there - it's a manner of time before they grow eager for us. Maybe they have another way out besides that door and barring it shut would be pointless. Do we take 'em out? If they have eaten other drow maybe some clues strewn about thier den?"
