Chapter 07: Reunited again

Korin advances as quietly as he can manage. Move Silently Roll...

[Dram]

Ox- Moves as quiet as he can towards Eddy.

[Nordbo]

(Korin's move silent roll = unsuccessful)
Jacob (as NPC) appears again from out of the shadows at the back, and the group of six tiptoe diagonally leftwards across the-room-that-smelleth-of-dogges, over to where Eddy is standing. He is in an opening that turns inwards to the left (i e not the doorway straight opposite which Ox and Eddy came through before - that doorway is to the right), and points left down a short passage to a large solid wooden door with a bar across it.

The vague draft that the adventurers have been sensing on and off during the exploring inside Rat Ridge, is very prominent here. The draft comes from behind that big barred door and brings with it a pong of dampness, mould and....bones ? ....manure ? - a thick, soggy stench."Yeeeogh - blllech!" Rickina complains.

"Yechh indeed!" Jacob (as NPC) shouts from the back, as something yucky has suddenly attacked him!

But the <smash> of his short sword is heard instantly after, and he calls back: "All clear! Just another slimy cave rat. Dead"

Eddy replies "OK!", then points again down left towards the heavy door, whispering: "It'sh another shell, ahem, cell I thought we oughta check. Whaddayasay, who has a sharp ear for listening?"

[GreyWolfVT]

Korin "Aye may as well if there be more like us trapped in a cell best check it out an let em free." the dwarf whispers to Eddy. Then attempts to hear noise coming from the cell.

[Dram]

Ox- Stands ready waiting to see if Korin hears anything. The stench catching nose. He whispers. If there anything in that cell. I fear we are to late. Or it could the where the zombie cleaning guy stays.

[Nordbo]

Croma replies "Uhh...the zombie cleaner guy ? They're a whole facility team, dude!" but is cut off by the sound that everyone, not only Korin, now hear from behind the massive door:

Ox and Jacob have heard that sound once before....

Korin "Eh I dunno if I wanna let what ere that is, sounds like a beast a some sort."

[Nordbo]

Eddy in a hushed voice, to Korin:"Wanna let what do what ? "

Croma chimes in "Uh yeah dwarf dude, don't you know, it's that heinous mega-beak thing" and makes big eyes

then, Eddy again: "Ah, gentlemen I see what you mean. Yes, whatever that was does sound a bit....hostile."

to which Jacob (as NPC) groans: "Now he gets it. Ahem, Mr. Eddy, weren't we on our way out ?"

Eddy: "We are indeed. But according to my inside sources, there is, or at least used to be, a shortcut beyond this door."

[Dram]

Ox- Moves away from the door with horrible sounds. Ummm? The with the that sound behind it?

Korin "Yah sure bout that are yah then Eddy?" the dwarf gives a quizzical look at the gnome drunkard.

[Nordbo]

Eddy, hesitantly: "Why yes, I'm sure it was through here...." while absentmindedly fumbling with the bar on the door, which then to his surprise falls off the latch, and the door suddenly swings wide open, revealing.....

<gasp!>[/color] a fanged greyish beast, standing abt, 20 ft. in, on a heap of muck, broken bones, skulls, lots of unidentified objects etc. It blinks surprisedly with its small red eyes, caught in the light of the group's torches, looking fearsome but not monstrously large, just bigger than the door opening.

Everyone roll for surprise!

Eddy Ragfist, roll for surprise or initiative: [1d6] = 2
Jacob (as NPC), roll for surprise or initiative: [1d6] = 3
Croma Gung, roll for surprise or initiative: [1d6] = 2

Korin Init Roll/ Surprise Roll [1d6] = 4

Tries to shut the barred door fast. "Aye shut that blasted door! Wrong spot ta go through yah drunk yer gonna get us killed."

[Dram]

Ox- Runs to close the door. I don't think we want to fight that!

Party gains surprise

"But....but....!!" Eddy stutters, as Korin and Ox take charge, slamming the door to with combined efforts, and securing the bar properly.

"....but! ....the Orb! I'm sure it's in there" then jumps with shock, as the beast throws itself onto the closed door from the other side with a gruesome growl, thumping and clawing, with a horrible snapping sound.

Jacob (as NPC), pointing his knife menacingly at Eddy's red nose: "Orb, shmorb - I'll make you an orb if you don't stop endangering our lives. Now get-us-out-of-here - fast!"

Despite all the terror, noise and foul smells, Rickina manages to swoon: "Ooh, how manly!"

while <glumpf!> is all that frightened Croma can manage.

[Dram]

Ox- Moves Eddy away from the door. What is so important about this Orb that you risk all our lives for. We need to come back with more blades if we are to fight that creature.

[GreyWolfVT]

Korin looks to the gnome drunk "Be me guess cous if ya want ta get past muttley there then be mah guest." and the dwarf gives a big toothy smile to the gnome "But don't ya be thinkin we're dumb enough ta follow ya in there."

[Nordbo]

Eddy doesn't reply, just glances at the door everytime a <thump> is heard, while manically fiddling with his hands.

Jacob (as NPC) calms down, lowers his dagger and says icily: "OK ? Head for the exit then, shall we ?" pointing his thumb in the other direction.

"Ooh - do protect me from all nasty beasties, won't you?" the ever fickle Rickina presses up against Jacob.

[Dram]

Ox-Yes lets be out of here.

[GreyWolfVT]

Korin "Aye the sooner tha better. Lets be off then."

[Nordbo]

Croma Gung shakes his head at both Eddy's bumbling and Rickina's fake swooning: "Bogus.", then turns to Korin and Ox: "Yes way! Lead us on, most excellent dudes"

He and Jacob (as NPC) start feeling their way out of this passage, back towards the dog-smelling room.
