XII. Flooded Quarry
Re: XII. Flooded Quarry
Grim, slightly slow on the uptake, piles in after the Halfling.

Round 2
"Well, damn the gods," Sylvan sighs when their initial plan doesn't pan out. The druid sets his jaw, grabs an Everlight torch in one hand and spear in the other, and chases the kobold through the passage with Sparrow and Ciar following closely behind, with Grim plodding along behind them. Kassal and Fulp monitor the rear guard, watching out for an ambush or other such danger from behind the companions.
Inside the new chamber, the three humans imprisoned within shudder and cry in fear at the first sign of the group, and the kobolds produce short swords and prepare to rush at the intruders after Sylvan's wild spear toss makes clear the group's intentions.

Re: XII. Flooded Quarry
Grim moves in to engage whichever is left after the others have started fighting, or the closest if all are in combat.

Sylvan grits his teeth and charges k4, moving to square 30. He has his scimitar in one hand and the torch in the other.
Re: XII. Flooded Quarry
Kass, at the back, will move in and block the exit not being able to do much.

Re: XII. Flooded Quarry
Sparrow shakes his head at the druid again as he charges as best he can towards the northern most kobold k2 and attacks it.
Re: XII. Flooded Quarry
Ciar heads straight to K1, attempting to strike at it with sword and dagger.

Round 3
Sylvan, his scimitar in one hand and an everlit torch in his other, grits his teeth and charges at the kobold along the southern wall. He slashes at the scaly beast and, with a well-placed strike, drops it before it has a chance to react. Grim, who was trailing behind the druid, brings his mighty axe around at the same creature for good measure.
In the center of the room, Fulp and Ciar square off against the kobold that spotted them moments earlier and fled into the area. Ciar, with his two-weapon fighting style, lashes out with his short sword and dagger, catching with the later, issuing the kobold a deep, but not critical wound. Fulp, perhaps too eager to finish the creature off, awkwardly brings about his walking stick, missing badly and allowing the kobold a chance to sneak in a quick counter strike with its short sword, which it fails to connect with. The small, scaly foe doesn't fare much better with its normally planned attack, nor does the trailing kobold near the rear of the cave which rushes to engage.
On the northern side of the cave, Sparrow fights his way through the pile of rough vines which the female slave on the north wall had been tasked with turning into ropes. The dark-skinned warrior brings about his club and dagger at the over-matched kobold, drawing blood with his dagger. The kobold retaliates and issues Sparrow a small scratch.
While the rest of the group engages, Kassal holds back and blocks the exit... then hears some scurrying sounds coming from the side passage off to his left, and sees some glowing eyes, low to the ground, emerging from this side tunnel and rushing in his direction!

Re: XII. Flooded Quarry
Sylvan, relieved to have actually connected with a weapon, quietly signals to c2 that he'll be back to help. He then walks around the stone column to attack k3 from behind
I know he's not going to backstab for many reasons, but not sure if Sylvan gets a +2 bonus for an attack from behind.

Sparrow finds that the crouched fighting style doesn't agree with him but he presses the attack anyway.
He winks at the female. No worries little miss, we will have you out of of those chains in a jiffy.

Re: XII. Flooded Quarry
Kassal will back down the tunnel, reaching for a flask of oil and pouring it across the tunnel in a line, and as the rats close will light the patch with his torch if it's capable of igniting, or create a spark with his tinder box and flint and steel.
"rats incoming!" he will call back to his companions.

For sake of clarification, the grayed areas are just piles of "stuff" and not actually columns. You could probably move through those spaces, but with a penalty.AleBelly wrote:He then walks around the stone column...
As long as k3 doesn't notice him before the attack, yes.AleBelly wrote:--but not sure if Sylvan gets a +2 bonus for an attack from behind.

Round 4
Having run through the southernmost kobold moments earlier, Sylvan and Grim quickly decide upon their next course of action. Sylvan hurries around the cluttered pile of rough materials and sneaks up behind the kobold in the center of the room, and successfully slashes at it with his scimitar. Grim stops at the first imprisoned slave, a shuddering and crying female, and begins to inspect their shackles. He attempts to calm the terrified woman, but is largely unsuccessful. The other slave, a male, about 15-feet away, also remains equally terrified.
In the center of the room, Ciar and Fulp continue to battle the pair of kobolds there. Ciar issues a serious gash to the scaled creature with his keen-edged sword and reduces the first threat to a bloody mess lying lifelessly on the ground. Fulp clumsily tries another attack with his walking stick, but swings wildly.
To the north, Sparrow winks at the female slave nearest him and and offers her some words of encouragement, which seems to have some pacification affect. Continuing with his two weapons fighting style, the dark-skinned warrior is able to clip his previously wounded kobold adversary with his dagger, wounding it heavily.
Outside in the passageway, Kassal backs away from the well room with the rats and, reaching for a flask of oil, pours it across the tunnel in a line as he works his way towards the slave room. "Rats incoming," he calls out to to his otherwise unaware companions. When the rats continue to rush towards him, the gnome attempts to light the oil patch with his torch, and is reminded that regular lamp oil will not easily burn. He begins fishing through his pack for his flint and steel, hoping he can retrieve them and put them to use in time, but the rats quickly close the distance between them. There are five of the rabid creatures in total, with three in front and two trailing slightly behind. The first three attack -- the bite attempt of the first is so badly timed, Kassal has a chance to lash out with is dagger and sticks his sharp blade through the course rat hide, killing it. The second and third rats also attempt to bite the gnome, with the later of the two latching on tightly before removing a small chuck of flesh as it pulls away. One of the trailing rats moves up to take over for the rat just killed.
The centermost kobold diverts its attention from Fulp, wheeling around and flails wildly at Sylvan with its short blade.
The heavily wounded kobold on the far north side of the cave puts every ounce of strength it has into its attack against Sparrow, but swings wildly.

Kassal will call for help whilst retreating backwards towards his comrades.
He will slash out at the attacking rats as he does so with his dagger.

Re: XII. Flooded Quarry
Ciar, seeing that Fulp and Sylvan have the second kobold under control, turns back and rushes to aid the gnome.
If he understands he can fight side-by-side with Kassal, he enters the hallway and attacks rats. If he knows that would be difficult, he waits at square 4 for Kass to retreat to square 3 and attacks rats.
