IV. Uncharted Island
Re: IV. Uncharted Island
"Thanks. Much better. Not lookin' for an entrance; just making sure there isn't something in there that need to know about..."
Feeling much better after Pendleton's administration of poultice and clean bandages, Siirist offers to take a quick peak at the swampy building.
He moves to 794 to see if he can find a way of peering into the building...

Sasha ignores the others and goes to have a look at the swampy structure. She cautiously moves to the corner 795 and has a look around.

All you found was a book? Did you see anything else? Perhaps another tunnel leading underground?

Morgan moves along with Sasha to 765
"Sir, our research shows that the bird is equal to or greater than the word."
Re: IV. Uncharted Island
Pendleton shrugs and goes to the swampy building with the others, looking up into the trees on occasion as he goes.
Re: IV. Uncharted Island
"Ain't nothing good what lives in a swamp, though. Lived near one since the day I was born. Don't miss 'em." Bingus cautions apprehensively as the group seems to be considering it as an option. "I doubt the secret entrance would be in the swamp building," agrees Pendleton. "Any caverns there would likely be flooded. I would suggest we start in the small building in the south. If we can't find the entrance there, we can come back to the swamp building."
"When you have a thing you don't want to do, better to do it now than later," Sirrist says after listening to the two mages caution against it. With that, the elf begins to advance on the swamp building. Sasha, Dagg, and Morgan trail close behind, and eventually Pendleton follows. Elias is the last to leave, and hangs back with Pendleton and Bingus.
Looking for an entrance as he approaches Siirst reaches the northeast corner of the room, with Sasha and Morgan settling in to her right. The eastern section of this room is overgrown with trees, and Morgan notices that at least an entrance into the building is completely blocked off, and speculates the clearing it will require considerable time and effort. The blocked entrance is in square 734.
Actions?

Re: IV. Uncharted Island
Does the entrance seem to have been blocked off intentionally, or is it just blocked by a tree or other growth?
Re: IV. Uncharted Island
A large tree covers the entrance now, so the blockage was not intentional.Zhym wrote:Does the entrance seem to have been blocked off intentionally, or is it just blocked by a tree or other growth?
Re: IV. Uncharted Island
Pendleton looks at the book again. "This tree's older than the book. I don't think the entrance is in there. I'd suggest we move on."

Dagg nods hearing Pendleton "Sounds about right as Bingus said doubt any dwarves would mine a swamp. Unless it was not always a swamp."

Re: IV. Uncharted Island
Sasha looks for anything she can climb up on to get a better view of the swamp building.
Do you think there are any other doors or windows around the other sides? I don't think we should just skip investigating this place. We should at least look inside if we can.

Siirist moves to 791 to see if he can spot a way of ingress from there.

Dagg tries to circle around the entire building to search for any other possible ways in.

Re: IV. Uncharted Island
Bingus keeps watch nervously, puffing away on his pipe. He keeps focus on the swampy areas.
Re: IV. Uncharted Island
Sasha is surrounded by trees she could climb (and potentially stumble upon more moncoons), but seeking a higher vantage point may need to wait. As Siirst begins to explore further west, towards the swamp, a half dozen lizard men erupt from their hiding positions in the swamp and, before the party can react, each hurl darts into the group. Siirist feels four darts whiz past him without striking him. Sasha is targeted once, and also missed. The apprehensive Bingus, however, does feel a sting as a dart sticks into his right arm.
After hurling their projectiles, the lizard folk dive back beneath the water, leaving only ripples to betray their location.
Actions?
Even though the group did technically tie initiative, the lizard men will have been able to dive before a ranged weapon would have been able to be produced, aimed, and fired.
Rolls:
S (1-4), M (5), S (6), D (7), B (8): [1d8] = 3, [1d8] = 3, [1d8] = 8 (Siirist, Siirist, Bingus)
S (1-4), M (5), S (6), D (7), B (8): [1d8] = 3, [1d8] = 6, [1d8] = 4 (Siirist, Sasha, Siirist)
Initiative: Monsters [1d6] = 4, Players [1d6] = 4 (Round 1)

"Ouch! I done told ya! This murk is bad news. I done TOLD ya!"
Bingus tries to take cover behind a tree and administer aid to himself.
Healing kit [1d2] = 1
Of course

"Well," says Pendleton with a slight grin, "I'm glad I didn't have to be the one to say 'I told you so.'"
"Moving on, then?"

Sasha moves away from the swamp with the others, heading back towards the smaller building to the south.
What's wrong Penny? You don't seem very willing to take a closer look this time. Did you run out of room in your journal? She nudges the mage jokingly as the group departs the muck.

Siirist runs back to 828, getting out of range of the lizard men.
