XI. Hunclay's Manor

#1 Post by dmw71 »

After Sylvan deemed the entrance safe, Ciar moves to the door and, using the key the group found on Hunclay's body, compares it to the keyhole on the front door's lock. It looks to be a match. The halfling inserts the key into the keyhole and, while everyone prepares for an onrush of overprotective guardians, turns the key.

The lock slides open.

Sorry, but I definitely want to play it safe here, and don't want to make any assumptions:
Alethan wrote:If one appears that it might, he tries that key in the lock and attempts to unlock the door.

The door itself remains closed, but is unlocked, and requires only a simple turn of a knob to open.

With everyone behind him bracing for the wrath of over-protective guardians, Ciar turns the handle and pushes the door inward to expose the main room of Hunclay's manor.

The floor of this well-appointed entry hall is adorned with two expensive Qadiran rugs and decorated with several overstuffed leather sofas. Two dozen paintings with gilded frames hang on the walls, portraits and landscapes, all of exquisite artistry. To the north sits a large bird cage. Wooden doors open in the east and west walls, and an elaborate spiral staircase of iron both ascends and descends in the southeast corner.

Okay, I have numbered most of the 5-foot squares in the room. If your character is going to enter, please indicate on which square your character will be at the end of their turn.

Kass with approach the door. "Are your heightened senses picking anything up in there Sylvan or has the spell lapsed already?" asks the little gnome. He will not enter this round, waiting for the others to secure the area, just in case the door slams and needs reopening from the outside.

"Well that was boring weren't it? I'm hopeful we'll turn something up soon!"

Sparrow dislikes big mansions almost as much as being stuck in an underground prison.

He peers in through the doorway and then looks to Sylvan.

What does your detection spell tell you now?

He then lets Ciar do some more of his "checking" before he is willing to enter.

Feeling the press of the group on him from behind, Ciar begins an inspection of the area immediately inside the door, to make sure it is safe before stepping foot inside. As he works, he moves inside the house and to the left, making his way towards the door.

"Mind your step. No real reason to think this guy trapped his own house, but... you never know."

Ciar ends up on square 55, going around the rug, sticking close to the left wall of the room.

Once Ciar has determined that entering through the door is safe enough, Sparrow will also enter and shadow him at a distance so he doesn't have to be the only one inside.

He does his best to notice if there has been any odd foot traffic through the place recently.

Sylvan quietly lifts the corner of the rug in square 62 with his scimitar, looking for anything unusual underneath. If nothing is unusual, he will hang out on that square.

Fulp, sensing that it is safe enough to enter as well,
will make his way toward 60, using his walking stick as a poke.
