Sparrow thought that the growling sound was a trick. Why would he feel any differently about it now? How does a bear appear from thin air?

He holds his attack for a split second and concentrates extremely hard on the details of the creature. If he doesn't see anything that tells him it's not real, or if it attacks him, he swings his scimitar at the grizzly beast.

Attack w/ Scimitar [1d20] = 3 Damage [1d8] = 1

"I don't know if this bear was summoned or what, but it sounds real to me" laments Sylvan.

He sets his spear against a grizzly charge, but hopes it won't attack.

The massive grizzy bear just appears, as if summoned, into the room, and passes every observation test. It growls ferociously in the general direction of the door, sending chills down the backs of Sylvan, Sparrow, and Fulp; all within its immediate range.

"Aha yars! Bout time we had a fight I reckond!"

Grim moves to get in melee range, wherever he can, and attacks if it goes for anyone.

Battle Axe [1d20] = 9 Damage [1d8+1] = 5+1 = 6

Kassals attack not including the +2 for attacking from behind.

PbP Forum code: [1d20-1] = 16-1 = 15 : [1d4] = 1

And the shocking grasp through the dagger is:

PbP Forum code: Shocking Grasp [1d8+1] = 3+1 = 4

Fulp uses his staff to beat the bear back from his position, but does very little toward accomplishing his goal.

Staff attack [1d20+2] = 5+2 = 7 ; Damage [1d6+1] = 1+1 = 2

ETA: "His position was meant to be Fulp's, not the bear's. I typed it meaning that he would be defensively attacking if the bear attacked his position. If the bear were to stay put, retreat, or mosey out the door, then Fulp would not advance to swat at him.

Sylvan continues to set his spear see private forum for roll. He tries to discern the grizzly's intentions - is it trying to leave the room? Or does it mean to attack anyone who wishes to leave?

If Sylvan can see the grizzly wishes to leave, he will move away from the door instead of setting his spear against an attack.

Seeing the others committed to battle, Ciar shakes his head and draws his short sword to attack the bear from behind...

He does not appear to be successful.

Sparrow follows the lead of Sylvan. He does not want to attack the beast if it is simply trying to escape. He lets the bear move towards the door if it wants to but, if it attacks instead, Sparrow will take a swing at it with the others.

A couple notes:
Storm11 wrote:If the Kassal is behind the bear he will cast shocking grasp and touch the creature.
I'm going to have to go with this. To use your dagger and shocking grasp together would require you to throw it, not "touch" with it, unless you were prepared to have Kassal take damage at the end of the round from it if he were still holding it.

I have to accept this roll:
Not this one:
---

Round 1

The giant bear rises to its rear legs; its head nearly touches the 10-foot high ceiling. It growls menacingly at Sylvan and Fulp whom are standing in front of the beast, and makes its intentions obvious.

Seeing no alternative, Sylvan sets his spear to combat the creatures charge but is unable to affect or deter the towering opponent. Fulp, too, ineffectively waves his staff at the giant bear. The beast manages to avoid Sparrow's slashing scimitar. Creeping up on the creatures hindquarters, Grim and Ciar find the thick hide of the creature too difficult to penetrate. Kassal, boldly, engages with creature and gets close enough to touch it, sending a shock through the bear and eliciting an angry growl.

Further angered by the unsuspecting shock delivered to its hindquarters, the bear look to maul Sylvan. It successfully rakes the druid with both paws, and narrowly misses with a vicious bite attack which would almost certainly have proved fatal. Sylvan weakly remains on his feet, bloodied and weakened.

Sylvan screams in pain as time draws close to a standstill.

So this is how I die, attacked by a conjured animal. How fitting.

Knowing that attacking is futile, the bloodied druid will attempt to withdraw from combat, exiting through the door.

Fulp will pull Sylvan out the door if able. If Sylvan somehow gets to the door before him, Fulp will block the entrance to protect him from the next swat of bear claws.
If he has to engage...Staff attack [1d20+2] = 5+2 = 7 ; Damage [1d6+1] = 5+1 = 6 (Not that it would do him a lick of good...

Sparrow was not convinced that this animal was real until he saw his friend nearly mauled to death right in front of him. His fight or flight mechanism kicks in and he stabs at the giant beast, hoping to skewer a vital organ before it does anymore damage to the group.

Attack w/ Scimitar [1d20] = 18 Damage [1d8] = 8

Round 2
The bear, angered by the shock it received in its hindquarters moments earlier, quickly wheels left and spies three targets -- Kassal, Grim, and Ciar. It focuses its efforts on Ciar, and like Sylvan moments earlier, the halfling is reduced to a bloody mess after the giant grizzly paws the halfling, lifting him off the ground and drawing him into a hug, where it snaps its jaws just, capturing the halfling in its maw.

With the bear's attention diverted, Sylvan is able to escape through the doorway, with Fulp stepping in front of the door to secure the druid's safe departure. Sparrow, now at the creature's back, slashes down at the giant and issues a deep slash through its thick hide.

Seeing the bear turn in their direction, Kassal quickly backs aways and leaps onto bed behind him. Grim once again brings his battle axe around but is unable to draw blood.

Cair, trapped in the bear's powerful jaws, loses his intended rear attack, but instictively stabs at the beast. The bear lets the halfling loose and growls in pain.

Sparrow realizes the advantage created by the bear turning and attacking the others. He does not want to see another comrade fall to this beast of nature so he slashes hard again in the same spot, trying to bring this huge creature down.

Attack w/ Scimitar [1d20] = 20 Damage [1d8] = 2

Bonus Damage Scimitar [1d8] = 3 :(

Sylvan, trying his best to remain conscious, uses his hand to brace himself against the hallway, smearing it with blood. He pulls some mistletoe out of his pouch and begins to rub it.

"Namhaid, taispeain tu fein!" he yells, then begins to cough.
