Fingal waits while the others stare at the ground.

Aint we got any spells that will help in this situation? It's just a dumb bear, how hard could it be to follow it? I say we just run after it.

Porphyry: "I agree, Fingal."

The satyr starts running after the bear.

He won't get closer than fifty feet or so. As he runs, Porphyry will prepare his Choke spell, just in case that seems the best way to deal with the bear.

Fingal just misses his chance to hop on the goatmans back for a ride. He runs behind him instead, trying to keep up as best he can.

Wrenly is distraught at the news of Beatrix. But no time for that now. Snapping out of it, Wrenly will also run after Porphyry and the bear, mentally preparing to begin casting Shocking Grasp if necessary.

"Can you see what it is, on his paw?!" he stage whispers as he runs...

Wulfhart grunts, not sure if this is the best idea. As he runs and tries to track the bear, he winces from wounds suffered in yesterday's battles.

Groyn tries to catch up to the others...You know us dwarves are great sprinters, haven't I ever told yous that???

"What do we do when we catch thisss thing? Talk to it? Who can sspeak bear anyway?"

The adventurers give chase. The bear spots the many pursuers and bounds off through the brush. But not before those of sharp eye see that is is a bit of torn cloth stuck in a rear paw of the bear. It is a bright color, something a child or girl would wear. The fleeing bear can be heard in the bushes ahead, its tracks very fresh.

Oh, she-ite! That don't look good! Kids clothing?

Praps' we should follow where it's been, instead of where it's goin.

Asherrion says, Or maybe it will take us to where the children are! Let's follow it and, if that's a red herring, we can return to this spot to try to reverse track it!

Beware! I fear the bear may be mad, warns Asherrion. If it does lead us to the children, we may need to end its life for its sake and the childrens'.

"I agree with Asherrion! Let's follow, but not too closely. If it engages us we'll never know where it was headed. Plus my robes would be positively ruined were I to be attacked." Wrenly scampers along, robes held at mid-shin. Anyone who happens to look in his direction may note that he's wearing what appears to be paper mâché armor underneath his brown outerwear.

The woodsman pauses. "I doubt that's really a bear. When's the last time anything we've encountered has been as it seems?"

The adventurers follow the bear. It meanders about and eventually makes its way into a cave.

Groyn walks up to the entrance of the cave and trys to discern the height within. Would someone of Wulfie's great stature need to hunch over when entering?

Groyn the dwarf's infravision pierces the gloom of the cave to reveal the bear 15' in, gnawing on bones of an indeterminate type. The ceiling is initially 5' high but raises to 7' deeper in.

Groyn quietly addresses the others...He's in there gnawing on some bones, what do yous wanna do? I ain't see'n any kids though! He mighta ate them all

Asherrion says, We must put it out of its misery. I sense it is mad.

He draws his sword, wishing for a ranged weapon.

"If only I had prepared a sleep inducing spell... alas." says Wrenly. "Are we in any condition to engage this creature? Could we lure it out using trickery? Perhaps wait it out, then enter when it leaves?" He looks around the vicinity to see if any other clues exist outside the cave.
