Ch. 5: Plunging Deeper Into the Tomb

In the interests of forward progress, I'll assume everyone looks for secret doors during that nine-minute window.

It's actually Elsa who notices the door. After a check for traps, it is opened into a small curved passage that leads to stairs that descend further into the tomb. At the foot of the stairs is a passage leading east beyond the limits of your light sources. An intersection is 40' away.

"Dredd, do you want to take point as this place seems to love traps", ask Abrex?

Dredd Doomsmith, dwarven trap-hacker:

"Aye, lad," rumbled Dredd. The red bearded dwarf moved to the front and looked for traps in the hall as the party slowly, painstakingly advanced further into the Tomb of Horrors.

Elsa the half-orc fighter watches the ceilings for lurking dangers as Dredd the dwarf searches for traps.

Xale will attempt to complement his fellow Dwarf's study of the passage's walls, ceiling and floor with his people's knack for stonework construction for any signs of any potential traps as well....

Dredd carefully works his way down the hall, searching for traps as he goes. The rest of you follow behind. As you approach the intersection, you see that the corridor ahead ends in a door 30' past the intersection.

"Nice job," says Xale, trying to compliment his fellow dwarf (sorry, couldn't resist). Xale also looks for signs of traps in the stonework constructions, but he doesn't quite have the eye for traps that Dredd has.

As Dredd reaches the intersection, he turns around to thank Xale for the kind word. As he does, the floor falls out from under him, dumping Dredd into a spiked pit and impaling him on two spikes (-10 HP)!

Inferno: please roll two saving throws vs. poison.

Detect traps? (1-85=yes): [1d100] = 93
Fall? (1-88=yes): [1d100] = 31 That should have been 1-78=yes, but the result is the same.
Number of spikes hit: [1d6] = 2
Damage: [2d6] = 10

Not a great set of rolls for Dredd.

OOC: Sigh....I put an 'i' instead of an 'e' didn't I? Corrected....

Quick question; by looking over the edge, is there a way to jump/get lowered down without touching any spikes? If so, I have both Slow Poison and Neutralize Poison memorized, so if I can get down there with out any risk of being poisoned myself, I'll do that and stand ready to cast it upon Dredd if needed (i.e. he fails his saving throws and starts turning green, going white as a sheet, etc.) and modify this post to reflect that action. If not....then please delete this post.

Since Xale is right behind Dredd, he should be able to drop into the pit without hitting any of the spikes.

If Dredd fails one of his saves, he'll have a minute before the poison kills him. It'll take 5 segments for Xale to climb down safely. Roll initiative on 1d6: the result plus 5 is the segment in which Xale reaches Dredd.

OOC: As I can't use the die roller (my work site won't let me access it....god knows why, I can go on Facebook and Youtube but not dice rollers....go figure); please make that roll for me Mister DM sir.

Worren has Feather Fall and Neutralize Poison. He can get down to Dredd faster and administer the spell.

Worren will cast Feather Fall on himself and jump into the pit. When he gets down to Dredd, he will cast Neutralize Poison.

I'll assume that's contingent on Dredd failing either saving throw.

Abrex says, "Hang on Dredd we are working on helping you out of there." Abrex helps in any way he can as he assist the others.

"But... we just got that Dwarf..." says Eduardo, flustered. Room allowing, he'll advance to the edge of the pit, ready to assist those who are ready to climb out with the butt end of his spear.

Dredd's strong dwarven constitution saves him from the poison. He pulls himself off the spikes and calls up out of the pit, "Can someone give me a lift out o' here?"

Zoster calls out. "I am glad, my friend, that you seem OK. While you're down there, how about checking for doors leading from the pit?" As he talks, he pulls his 50' rope out of his backpack.

Abrex helps pull the dwarf up unless others get to it first.

Elsa the Fair peeks over the edge of the pit down at Dredd. "You boys are always falling for me," she quips.

You pull Dredd from the pit. Looking up and down the north-south passage, you see that it ends in doors 50' away in each direction.
