MARCHING ORDER
Post default (and situational) marching and riding orders here in standard formations (single-file, two abreast, etc.)
Failure is always an option.
Re: MARCHING ORDER
might as well start it...
wilderness: 2x2 with a point?
town: 2x2,2x2 etc?

Re: MARCHING ORDER
In the wilderness, we should definitely have a scout up front, but otherwise 2 in a row. Bran would prefer a spot in the middle in such situations.
In underground environs, I don't mind putting Bran up front. Seems the thing to do w/a dwarf. Plus, if anyone has a longer weapon (spear, pole ax, etc) they could possibly attack over him.
2/row formation in town is fine, though we're probably not apt to march in formation in a town environment. Something loosely based on that would be good, though.

Re: MARCHING ORDER
Ulf would prefer being closer to the rear so he can cast, use his sling, or move around to backstab.
Re: MARCHING ORDER
As far as the various situational marching orders go:
On horseback/outdoor travel (2x2):
Savik would like to be one of the rearguards. He can use his bow from there, not only to the flank/rear, but could easily move to the side to provide fire support toward the front as well. Also (same as Ulf) he could move forward to cast or make a flanking manuever to utilize his thieves' skills.
In dungeon/underground/sneaking about (2x2 or 1x1):
Savik will volunteer to take point for the party (or at least take turns sharing the point) to utilize his thieves' skills and his racial skills (as an elf in non-metal armor).
As far as scouting goes, Savik doesn't mind making stealthy reconnoiters when applicable or needed. In fact, he prefers doing this to moving forward "blindly", so to speak.
As far as scouting outdoors or out in the open, he would prefer to have the ranger or perhaps one of the warriors take the lead, but he'll do it if asked, as long as he has some someone with him or covering him.

Re: MARCHING ORDER
Iomhar doesn't care where he rides (or walks if the horses are temps)... He does see the advantage of protecting someone who may restore his health by putting them in the middle of the order. Other than that, the rest are fairly interchangeable. I would say to put the fighters at the ends, one in front row, one in back.

Re: MARCHING ORDER
ok, so to start...and since we didn't finish...
wilderness:
point: Gordon - Bow ready
50ft to party
2 X 2
Grogs x Bran
Iomhar x Ulf
rear guard : Savik
I won't presume Sergeant Shadwraith's position, but I'd think but him with Grogs and Bran in a 3x2 formation

Re: MARCHING ORDER
Please post a marching order for underground: single file and two abreast. Thanks.

Re: MARCHING ORDER
Glogs, the ranger and the dwarf have the best AC/HP combination. Two of them up front with the third in the rear guard with the npc cleric?
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Re: MARCHING ORDER
Iomhar has no problem being in the middle. Should the dwarf be upfront to find pits?

Re: MARCHING ORDER
Ulf can detect traps and can move silently > he wouldn't mind being up front or close to it.
Winter is coming...
Re: MARCHING ORDER
Haha... But yeah, probably not a bad idea to have him up front for checking stonework, looking for traps and such. Plus, he isn't a bad choice for first row as someone with a longer weapon can easily attack over him.onlyme wrote:Iomhar has no problem being in the middle. Should the dwarf be upfront to find pits?

Re: MARCHING ORDER
Even inside Gordon doesn't have any issue with taking point. The surprise bonus cannot hurt.

Re: MARCHING ORDER
For the record, I only put Branin front because of the mention of the tomb being of Dwarven make. Figured he has the best chance of spotting anything unusual.
Normally, I'd suggest the red (a.k.a. The rouge, a.k.a. The rogue -in this case, assassin) go first in a dungeon and the ranger first in the wilderness.
