Gaerys spares a glance toward the bottom of the rift, sighs, and proceeds forward toward the cave.
Re: Siege of the Rift (G2 Part 4)
Okay what does the bit about 'the next ledge' in your action post mean then? I assumed a gap had been created.Magnus wrote:There is no gap. Everyone is still on the ledge in the same positions as shown on the map.
Hollis staggers under the blast but does not fall.
"We must get off this ledge as soon as possible, we are an easy target here!"
Hollis follows the dwarves and ranger forward
Re: Siege of the Rift (G2 Part 4)
Round 2
The party, on their toes after seeing two of their comrades fall into the Rift, take a slight initiative over their unseen foe.
The party begins a rapid evacuation onto the next ledge.
"Next ledge" means the ledge in front of 3 on the prior map. Sorry if not clear.
Gaerys makes it easily and without incident to the next ledge, no doubt thanks to his trusty Ring of Water Walking. His ranger instincts carry him into the shelter of the empty cave beyond (3), which has been cleared of insects thanks to the raging "artillery" battle. The plague starts again in the cave to his south and hallway to the northeast.
Hollis, Throm, and Vorsyin hurry to reach that ledge. Their expediency comes at the price of caution, however, as they struggle to hold the rope and stay on the ledge, given the extremely slippery ground.
Please give me a d20 roll. The goal is to beat the score of 22 - [character's dex score].
Jinx begins the process of shapeshifting, while the shadowcat, Andor, and Flambeau also make their moves towards the relative safety of the larger ledge. As they make their moves, another blast washes over them!!! These party members struggle to both keep their footing and avoid the worst of the blast.
Please give me a d20 roll for dex check (trying to beat 25-dex score) and a save v. spells. Flam and Andor will each get a bonus to the former due to the BoW.

Yeah...there is steam that limits visibility to 30'. The party can see their way to the ledge by following one after the other.

Gaerys quickly listens and looks (from where he's standing) for signs of enemies. If none are obvious, he'll look for tracks.

Re: Siege of the Rift (G2 Part 4)
Round 2 - Continued
Flambeau strolls through the flames unharmed and reaches the far ledge without incident. The LORD OF LIGHT is great indeed!!!
Jinx manages to avoid the worst of the blast, but the druid slips on the ice. Just as he does, however, his transformation is complete! The druid, in the form of a Gyr Falcon, takes flight!!!
13 damage!
You will be able to make observations next round if you fly out of the steam.
Shadowcat, however, is not so lucky. It is incinerated by the force of the blast, leaving only ashes and a few silver hairs behind.
Andor also manages to avoid the worst of the blast and barely -- just barely -- makes it to the far ledge safely. He is horribly wounded.
Vorsyin, Brax and Throm make it safely to the far ledge. Hollis, not the nimblest of heroes, feels his feet slip from beneath him. Before he can even try to recover, his feet give way and he slides off the Rift. He hits the floor of the Rift hard!!!
Again, will post separate thread for characters on floor of the Rift.
Gaerys looks around and sees no sign of enemies, and the only visible tracks are those of large wolves throughout and giant or three dragging something man-sized, headed south.
The air is strangely quiet. Has the threat passed? Do the heroes re-trace their steps, try to save their fellows, or press forward?
Declare actions!

Re: Siege of the Rift (G2 Part 4)
"There's no use going back out there unless we can do something about whatever is tossing fireballs at us," says Gaerys. "It clearly has some way to keep the insects at bay while it casts, or else it's using a wand. I'd guess that it's across the rift, though I have no idea how it could see us through the cloud of bugs."
"We should wait here a moment, heal ourselves as best we can, and wait for Jinx to report on whether Arqos, Krom, and Hollis survived the fall."

What percent of his 23 damage does Jinx get back once his falcon form is taken? Poor kitten
Jinx flies out of the steam and surveys the area looking for whatever or whomever is firing at the company.
Flam will gather the others into the cave and check the wounded. "Come, let the lord of light heal your wounds. The cleansing fire protects us." he says waiting for the most injured to come forward. "Someone check we are temporarily out of danger by searching this cave quickly please!"

Re: Siege of the Rift (G2 Part 4)
Vorsyin feels tremendous relief to be in the cave instead of being a target on the ledge. He nervously pats himself down to make sure none of his gear is burning. The rider is the likely foe,his fall was eased by some magic. Whether the attack came from him or a wand it matters little, a fireball is not an attack of precision.
Vorsyin casts Wizard Eye and send the eye to the South to scout for potential enemies.

Andor drinks his entire potion of extra healing as he moves back to his right by the ice wall for cover if he senses the blast came from the front or forward around the ice wall to his right for cover. He listens to his friends for information that may help him chose a safe path to move along. If it's safe to crawl he does so as the healing potion heals his wounds enough to allow movement. He grabs anyone that needs assistance if he can to help them retreat too. Potion of extra Healing [3d8+3] = 16+3 = 19
