Just curious: what's required to hit one of these things? Knowing it we hit or not would make it easier to roleplay the rolls...

They have an AC of 12, although I'll occasionally be adding +2 when they're dive-bombing. -2 AC and -2 to attack for the one that is on the ground.

To hit with greataxe: [1d20+3] = 8+3 = 11, damage: [1d10+2] = 5+2 = 7

The prone harpy still has plenty of life in her, scrabbling around on the ground in a flurry of feathers and snatching claws. She is able to avoid a crippling blow from Bürd's axe, although he still feels a satisfying connect.
Harpy 1: [1d20] = 18
The feathered creature raises her wings, and Bürd is surprised to see human-like hands at the leading joint of the wings. As these hands scratch at his face, one of the harpies talons digs into his gut from below.

MonkeyWrench wrote:Marcus catches Rug being snatched up by another harpy, intent on not being separated he will let the harpy snatch him up as well. He keeps his spear in hand and pointed at the harpy as it tries to fly away with him.

The ground quickly recedes as the harpy carries Marcus off. It seems unconcerned with your spear. Ahead, he sees Rug also being carried aloft.

KingOfCowards wrote:Simon will take damage.

Harpy damage from last round: [1d6] = 3

KingOfCowards wrote:I have no plans of taking down 18 harpies, but Simon chooses to go down fighting.
Attack with Sword: [1d20+1] = 12+1 = 13
Sword Damage: [1d8] = 5

After Simon wriggles painfully out of the harpies grasp, it hovers above him, trying to recapture her prize. As she attempts to re-engage, Simon is able to land a blow with his sword.

Harpy 3: [1d20] = 20
The harpy twirls around. At first, Simon thinks he has sent her flying with his blow, but before he realizes what is happening, she has caught him from behind, and his lifting him off the ground.

Harpy 4: [1d20] = 19
Gizzy is snatched up.

Harpy 5: Flies up high above the conflict.

DavetheLost wrote:Des looses another stone: [1d20+1] = 16+1 = 17
Sling damage: [1d4] = 1

Desmond's shot pings off the diving harpy as you barrels towards him.
Harpy 6:[1d20] = 2
The harpy is rattled enough that it missed Desmond entirely.

The wagon is dragged away by the wild horses. The depart the cobblestone road, which overturns the wagon. You hear Silde's screams mingling with the screams of the horses.

Harpy 9: [1d20] = 14
Guard 1 is snatched up.

Harpy 11: [1d20] = 12 damage: [1d6] = 5
Guard 3 takes damage as he attempts to fight off a harpy with his burning stick.
Guard 3: [1d20] = 20 [1d6] = 5
He lays a powerful blow full in harpy's face, knocking it backwards, sprawling.

Harpy 12: [1d20] = 6
This harpy chases down Guard 4, who is running for his life.

The harpies that landed near the donkeys are working to undo their harnesses.

In the air: Marcus, Rug the Cub, Simon, Gizzy, Maximer, Guard 1, and Guard 2.

Still fighting: Bürd, Mournath, Desmond, Guard 3.

Just trying to not get caught: Silde, Guard 4.

Another sling shot: [1d20+1] = 9+1 = 10

I doubt I hit, but just in case, sling damage: [1d4] = 3

What damage does he take?

Bürd swings his axe up over his head and brings it down on his harpy!

Mournath scans the sky as his fellows are taken off thinking that they will likely be taken to nest to feed the Harpies young perhaps. Waiting for the opportunity to pounce upon a grounded or near to the ground harpy, Mournath secures his bow and arrows tight to his body in anticipation of his impending flight
I'd like to 'mount' a harpy or at least get in a position where I can grab it's legs and be taken aloft

Yes, so many ladies are confusing, and it's only worse if they're bird ladies. ;)

Just curious, since we're confused: wasn't the harpy Bürd was attacking stunned for a round from her crash? I was assuming he got a free shot without any retaliation...

She was knocked down on her back, and at a disadvantage to both AC and Attack rolls, but not out cold or anything.

The two most accessible harpies are the ones unharnessing the donkeys. Or do you want to grab onto one as she flies by?

One as they fly by. I'll leap onto a rock outcropping as one approaches to get more height and make the leap!

I think I'm going to call that a DEX check... and probably a STR to see how well you hang on. If you succeed well (let's say with three points of you DEX without going over), I'll give you a +2 on the STR check for having gained solid purchase.

Desmond fires a shot at Harpy 6, who, having just whizzed by the halfling, has now swung around and is diving for him again.
Harpy 6: [1d20] = 5
However, the halfling quickly ducks away from the speeding talons.

Bürd and Harpy 1 square off, each trying to find an opening in the other's defenses. Bürd makes several feints, but is unable to get a good swing in at the harpy.
Harpy 1: [1d20] = 5
Neither is the harpy able to get at the dwarf.

Mournath mounts a boulder and boldly leaps out at Harpy 5 as she flies in to attack. His hands find purchase in the hard, slick feathers and he is briefly airborne!
Hapry 5 DEX check: [1d20] = 15
Mournath loses his grip, and tumbles to the ground. Harpy 5 has lost control of her flight, and also rolls into the ground.
Both Mournath and Harpy 5 are kicked down and must either spend a round getting up or attack at -2.

Harpy 8, having recovered from flying through the pyre in round 1, spots Mournath's vulnerability, and prepares to dive. Attack next round.

Guard 3 and Harpy 11 continue to fight over by the pyre.
Guard 3: [1d20] = 15 Damage: [1d6] = 5
Harpy 11: [1d20] = 8

Guard 3 lays a powerful blow in the harpy's neck and the bird creature goes limp. Guard 3 kicks the body into the flames.

Seeing one of the harpies killed, Harpies 19 and 20 swoop down. They fly past Harpies 17 and 18, and 19 screams, "Stormcrows! Leave the beasts for now! We have live ones, and they have spilled sacred blood!"

Over by the wagon, Harpy 13 flies off with Silde. The screams of the horses continue.

Bürd stands and pants a moment, looking for any weakness in the Harpy. "T'hell with ye." He spits and makes as if to turn away, but suddenly kicks up a spray of dirt at her face, and charges, binging his axe around in a powerful horizontal swing!

To hit with greataxe: [1d20+3] = 12+3 = 15, damage: [1d10+2] = 10+2 = 12
Bürd feels bird-bones snapping under his blow as Harpy 1 crumbles around his axe.
Harpy 19 cries out: "Sister Grizzele!"
DavetheLost wrote:"No bird rides for me!" yells Desmond and cracks off another sling shot.

To Hit Sling: [1d20+1] = 10+1 = 11
Damage: [1d4] = 4
Desmond misses a shot at Harpy 6, who is closer to him than he realized!
[1d20] = 11
Do you want to take damage or be carried away?
bislab wrote:Mournath leaps to his feet and prepares to evade the incoming harpy while readying his bow

Harpy 8 dive-bombs Mournath.
[1d20] = 7
But she misses.

Near Mournath, Harpy 5 is getting up off the ground.

Guard 3 and Harpy 11 continue to fight, each getting their licks in.
Guard 3: [1d20] = 18 Damage: [1d6] = 2
Harpy 11: [1d20] = 12 Damage: [1d6] = 1

In the distance, you see Harpy 12 carrying away Guard 4, after chasing him down.

Harpies 14 and 15 fly up from the wagon, carrying packages of some sort. The horses continue to scream, but the screams are weakening.

Seeing Bürd kill one of their number, and Guard 3 holding his own against another, the remaining four Harpies engage. Harpies 17 and 18 leave the donkeys to attack Bürd. Harpies 19 and 20 attack Guard 3.
Harpy 17: [1d20] = 18 Damage: [1d6] = 2
Harpy 18: [1d20] = 6

Harpy 19: [1d20] = 2
Harpy 20: [1d20] = 3

Desmond will allow himself to be carried away. He got through the adventure with the eagle after all so maybe he'll get through this with another fine tale to tell.

As Desmond is snatched up, Bürd, Mournath, and Guard 3 find themselves the only ones left with their feet on the ground.

There are still seven very angry-looking harpies, one of whom is injured.

Actions!
