Chapter 2a - Old Man River
Re: Chapter 2a - Old Man River
Yenny lashes out with her free fist at one of the nixies, keeping her shield at the ready. Perhaps the nixie daggers will kill some of their beloved fish.

Sev gets upset with himself for not connecting on his last attack. He makes up for it by skewering one of the swarm that are attacking Hyde.

Jaspar lulls them into a false confidence with his apparent ineptness. Only to strike when they let their guard down.

Re: Chapter 2a - Old Man River
Date: 17 Rituals, Year 41
Time: 10:57
Conditions: underwater, 1/3 normal movement, 50' visibility with shield
Known Spells in Effect: Light (Yenny's shield until 11:25)
Light bearers: Yenny's shield
The battle begins to turn against the nixies as they make their last stand. Hyde is overwhelmed by the five nixies attacking him. He deflects a dagger with his shield at the second, while another scrapes off his armor. He thrusts his towards the swarm, his aim and strength guiding it through its rib cage, ending its life. Sev skewers another, and it moves no more. The final nixie attacking Hyde misses with a half-hearted swipe.
Chet attempts to aid Yenny, but can't strike any with his hands. Yet another nixie appears from the darkness, attacking him. Blue robes billow in the water as he easily evades the attack.
Eduard and his opponent square off. The elf's first blow fails, as does the nixie's. The elf's skill with the longsword cannot be denied on his second strike, and he offs yet another.
Jaspar acts first in his melee. He deftly kills one of his opponents as Inga, bleeding, aids him. She stabs one of the two remaining nixies attacking Jaspar, but she only wounds it. Jaspar easily dodges the pair of dagger thrusts.
Yenny is now in the most dire situation. Four nixies swarm about her, and a fifth is stunned and inactive. She is well-armored, however, and only one dagger finds its mark, scoring a minor wound. Her efforts to attack with her free hand just come up short.
Current situation:
Two nixies are attacking Jaspar
Five nixies are attacking Yenny
One nixie is attacking Chet
Three are attacking Hyde
Actions? Those not being attacked can move to attack another, using charge if desired.

Having dispatched both his attackers, Eduard turns and in a rage sees Yenny beset by foes on seemingly all sides. Clenching his jaw, he charges towards them.

Sev continues to poke away at these frail fish men, mostly hopeing that they will all just swim away to avoid this obvious slaughter. His thoughts are his attacks undoing.

As one of the nixies comes down close to her with its dagger, Yenny slams the side of her shield across and into its knee. A small trickle of blood oozes out into the water from Yenny's shoulder.

Conditions: underwater, 1/3 normal movement, 50' visibility with shield
Known Spells in Effect: Light (Yenny's shield until 11:25)
Light bearers: Yenny's shield
The battle continues, albeit with fewer nixies buzzing around the party. Eduard reduces one to a bloody mass, barely recognizable as humanoid. Chet fights through the fish swimming about his head and grabs the head of his attacker, twisting it and breaking its neck. Yenny pins one down with her shield and bludgeons it until it no longer moves. Hyde kills another. Over half of the party's attackers lie dead or unmoving.
No nixie is able to score any damage. Seeing their case as hopeless, they retreat slightly from the party, swimming several feet above it. The fish disperse from Yenny's shield and Chet's head. Two more come forth from the dark waters. A heated exchange begins between Inga and her enemies. After several minutes, Inga motions to the party to remove the wax from their ears. After much difficulty in underwater communication, the party finds that Inga has negotiated that her enemies will be prisoners of Inga's tribe, and the children will be raised as theirs.
As promised, the spoils of the battle are the party's. The nixies enter several alcoves off of this side room and drag out wooden chests. These chests yield, aside from nixie personal belongings, 12 gp, 230 sp, 28 of the orcish electrum pieces and 822 cp. Of more interest is the pedestal sitting in the north of the great room. It's a stone cylinder, 5' tall and about 18 inches in diameter. Its flat top is covered with a domed cage, which is locked. On the flat top of the pedestal sits a sinister looking black idol, a heavily muscled humanoid figure with horns on its head, wings and glaring eyes that furrow so deeply they contort the other features of its face. Surrounding the idol are 25 gems; some look quite valuable, others look more common and even scuffed. Regardless, it's more wealth than most have seen in one place in their lifetime. One of the captives produces a key and unlocks the cage.
One other item of note is an engraving on the pedestal in a language unfamiliar to the group. Inga translates, looking puzzled. "Those who touch the idol will invoke the wrath of the Master"

Re: Chapter 2a - Old Man River
Not wishing to invoke the wrath of anyone, Eduard moves towards the idol. Picking up an abandoned nixie dagger (if one was to be found, and or borrowing one from someone) he gingerly uses the point of the dagger to push gems off the pedestal one at a time, storing them in his belt pouch. He takes great care not to touch the idol with either his hand or the dagger.
He also rounds up whatever weapons the captive nixies were using and takes those with them as well. They may prove useful later.

Yenny stares hard at the idol for a few moments, hoping to remember its every detail. If there are any children's items (not sure what there would be for underwater creatures - obviously blankets are not so likely) she will attempt to gather them and hand them to the prisoner children.

Re: Chapter 2a - Old Man River
Eduard pushes the gems off the pedestal and collects them in his belt pouch. They move easily. He works with others to gather up the daggers the nixies were carrying. He slips two into his belt. Please add 2 daggers and 25 gems to your inventory. In the middle of the floor sits two sacks of coins - one with the copper and the rest in the other sack. A dozen or so daggers are also in a pile.
The idol seems to glare at Eduard and then Yenny as she studies its features. Soon the cleric moves on to comfort the children. She helps lead them out with Inga, shielding their eyes from the carnage to avoid upsetting them. The children bring their trinkets and a toy or two with them, but they seem quite upset. They don't understand completely what is going on, but you can tell they know big changes are in store.

Eduard pockets the two daggers and gems, and moves to leave with Yenny, Inga and the children. He motions to Sev, Jaspar, Hyde and Chet to grab the remaining bags of loot and pile of daggers and follow along.
2 daggers and gems added as party loot, to be sorted later.
