OOC: Retcon

Once they safely reach their camp, Rhys finds a quiet spot and meditates on healing his body.

The day and night pass uneventfully. At the end of the day, Quint successfully grasps the underlying principles needed to create a magical light that, in theory, should radiate for all of eternity, or at least until the malign entities dwelling in the Nightmare Dimension break free of their shackles and swallow the world.

Felmont 5, AC 1000

No sounds of boisterous singing, or jovial laughter or even cacophonous cackling penetrate the silence of the night. The new day is overcast, and slightly sticky with humidity.
Okay, gentlemen, what is the plan?

Thurgan looks around, "shall we go and investigate what lies below again?"

Vanco replies, "Yes, why not? Should we first bury this treasure? I don't wish to drag it backwards and forwards."

Rhys looks at the large sacks of coin and asks, "Agreed, Vanco. What are we going to do with these, then?"

Thurgan looks at the gold "Give me a shovel and I'll get it buried away well".

Thurgan looks at their equipment and says "I can use my battleaxe to cut the turf away and we use other things to lift the broken soil or cut branches from bushes to hide the sacks"

Quint Kacie
"I agree we need to get this loot well hidden, lest Beso and his companions - or anyone else - find and take it. My suggestion would be to bury it well away from our campsite though, to discourage anyone who comes nosing around this spot."

"Put it under our fire pit," Severi opines. "None will think anything of a fire pit, whereas a pile of freshly cut branches or disturbed turf will attract curious thoughts."

Flarmont 5, AC 1000

With no shovel, it takes a fair amount of time to dig a hole large enough to bury all the treasure. Adventurers are nothing if not resourceful, however, especially when it comes to concealing large amounts of lucre.

The Forgotten City
10:00 am

The adventurers reach the bathhouse without incident, to find the door hanging slightly ajar. A quick examination reveals between four and six pairs of human-sized footprints leading towards the door. No prints can be seen emerging from the building.

The Caves under the Forgotten City
Turns 1-6

By now the way down into the cellar and the tunnels beyond have become routine, and the companions are able to make decent time. Just before they enter the tunnels leading to the Lair of Ur-orcs they come across a pitiable sight: the bleeding and broken body of a man, sprawled on the tunnel floor! After the initial surprise has worn off, the adventurers hear the sound of labored and tortuous breathing, and recognize the man -- more a lad, really -- as the linkboy that traveled with Beso the Boisterous and his companions!

Rhys

"Semele, can you see to him?" Rhys asks, kneeling beside the boy.
Just a cure orison at first, to see if that stabilizes him.

Quint Kacie
"They just left him to die alone in these dank tunnels?" Quint exclaims in outrage. "My first impression of that boorish fellow was not particularly good, but an act so devoid of empathy speaks volumes to his true character."

Semele

Semele kneels down and mutters a quick prayer. The youth's face grows slightly less ashen, and his breath steadied. "Look!" she exclaims, pointing at a grayish crust on his right leg, barely visible beneath the blood and grime. It looks like hardened beetle spittle.

Severi considers, and then speaks. "It is possible that they did not leave him here. It's possible that they were taken by whatever still dwells here, and he has merely not been collected yet."

Rhys checks to see if the boy has a skin of wine on him. If he does, he uses it to wash off the gray matter.

Then he looks around to see if there could be anything near by resembling new men encased in hardened, gray spittle.

Rhys estimates the adventurers are still some twenty minutes away from their goal; no other evidence of the beetles, their spittle or the ur-orcs can be seen. Smeared patches of drying blood can be seen, leading off into the darkness beyond.

"Maybe something took them by surprise while carousing". The dwarf keeps watch for any threats approaching.
