Varisia
Dotted with the monolithic relics of an empire long since crumbled, Varisia is a rough but majestic land, its misty forests and rolling plains bordered by sharp peaks and bountiful seas. Its people, recently released from colonialism, are hardy frontier folk and new- money nobles, all eager to carve names for themselves from Varisia’s stern landscape. Yet beyond their village borders, beasts and giants unused to civilization’s encroachment stalk the hills and woods, making short work of both the unwary and the bold. While much of this rugged land remains unexplored, what little is known tempts the daring and holds the potential for untold adventure. For fortune hunters, Varisia is a land of limitless opportunity, its ancient monuments reminding them just how far the truly driven can rise.

Sandpoint (Mayor Kendra Deverin)
See: Map of Sandpoint (Including NPCs)

Founded in 4670, Sandpoint is a young, sleepy fishing town known primarily for its excellent theater and exquisite glassblowing. What was once a larger-than-normal Varisian campsite in the shadow of an ancient ruined tower, Sandpoint has become the only settlement of note on the Lost Coast. Aside from the occasional goblin, the citizens of Sandpoint have traditionally had little worries about invasion or banditry—the region simply isn’t populated enough to make theft a lucrative business.

The term "late unpleasantness" has been mentioned a few times, but no one has been overly forthcoming with details. A mysterious fire in destroyed most of the homes and buildings in the northeast portion of the town, including the original church. You've also heard rumors of a murderer.

The consecration of the new Sandpoint Cathedral, set for later today as the highlight of the annual Swallowtail Festival, hopes to continue the run of recent prosperity.

Belhaim (Baroness Origena Devy)
See: Map of Belhaim (Including NPCs)

Belhaim presents a sleepy, rustic facade to the wandering visitor. The town is in large part self-sufficient. Its main commodities are pottery and fish, but the town doesn’t receive enough trade to garner much renown from these industries. Most of the town’s inhabitants work for family businesses or provide services. Residents are fractious, and they have long memories. Minor squabbles are common among neighbors who have differing beliefs.

Sandpoint's Neighbors

#3 Post by dmw71 »

To the West: Varisian Gulf
When the Thassilonian Empire shattered 10,000 years ago, much of western Varisia fell into the sea, becoming what is now known as the Varisian Gulf. Although only Hollow Mountain and a few remnants of Magnimar’s great Irespan remain as reminders of nations lost to the waves, those salvagers who earn their living exploring the sea bottom here find it rife with ruined cities and ancient relics of extraordinary size.

To the North: Riddleport
Varisia’s northernmost port is renowned as a haven for scoundrels, outcasts, and worse. Cutthroats fill its harbor and dockside brothels, with Riddleport’s officers of the law being just another gang of thieves (and hardly the most powerful one at that).

To the East: Sanos Forest
The dense forested region to the east is rumored to be the primary gnome settlement in Varisia.

To the South: Magnimar
The renowned City of Monuments is the second largest city in the region and lies at the southern tip of the Varisian Gulf, built up around one of the last surviving remnants of the enormous bridge that purportedly once stretched all the way to Hollow Mountain.
