Session 18: Into the Lair of Atalya

#1 Post by Johnny Champion »

DM: Use this topic for all discussion on our last session.

Remember, you have entered through an opening on the top of Monsmoor, the name locals call the large prominent hill north of Tarne along the north reaches of the Selin River.

You killed the Bugbear guards and descended through the shaft to a large cavern where you defeated two Beholders. Neither spoke or tried to communicate to you during the battle, leading you to believe that neither was the mastermind that some call 'Atalya'. After a search through the cavern, Kaleb finds another opening in the ceiling. Nihil climbed the walls and determined it leads out as well. There is noise outside the opening but Nihil returns to the cavern floor. He assumes there are more bugbears at that opening. Helio Verum can either venture back out via either two exits or continue down the central shaft.

Rickul, having recovered from his near death experience, appears to not be as powerful as he once was . But he seems willing to move on.

Is it fair to say that after coming back from a coffee break with Death, Rickul has lost the two +1 arrows and the single +2 arrow he managed to loose before taking a dirt nap for the latter 3/4 of the battle?

Now I think it safe to say that with all the healing power in that cavern, that it was quite a travesty that no one came to your aid sooner!

Well the Cletic was stuck behind the trolls, and the Paladin was petrified, twice! Also, he didn't bleed out. He suffered an immediate death effect.

That and he was killed within three rounds... hit for 55hp, 45hp, and 55hp respectively. He could have healed himself if he thought he was in danger of going down. lol

DM: Be aware that those Eye Tyrants you faced did not include Atalya and did not use tactics for which you have heard tales.

Rickul as licked his wounds (metaphorically speaking) and is back on his feat. He's eager to get out of this dark hole and back into the sunlight, but he votes for continuing down. Doing what's right over what's easy is the way of the Rangers of Nouveau. Is there any business we need to take care of? What's the rest of the group want to do?

As Lumiere places the Helm on her head, the green eyes of the wolf begin to shine:

She states in almost a trance:

"The Black Hand, Atalya , Infernium Flahrim and Jerrus Webb. These are names that trouble us, my friends. The answer to the land of the north, Flahrim, will become clear, but only through a descent down. Atalya, as much as a floating brain as a floating eye, may recognize the power of the group and come to an understanding. Atalya is not her name, it is called Halzaran, and it lies in wait below us. Onward!"

Don't you like a magic item that make the PCs do what the DM wants? I will try and not abuse this godlike power, but absolute power corrupts absolutely.
You, sir, get a "Like" and a "+1" for that. Hahahaha

There is plenty of room in the nag of holding for an uppity hat, and failing that there is always the rod of cancellation...

Tungsten would have gone to Rickul's aid but he was busy going eyeball to eyeball with a Beholder. Faelwen would have helped out had she not been thrown down a mine shaft, attacked by Trolls and then grabbed and held fast by arms/tentacles coming out of the wall.

Rickul: "Brothers and sister, I have an idea. Let us obtain more information regarding the robe of the Mummy Lord, Torzalon. We know that it radiates an evil presence.... IF we find that it offers no innate powers to the wearer, we should offer it as a gift to Richard Beajeau, King of Silverton & Count of Ironthal. If he accepts it as a gift and wears it proudly, we will know what kind of man he is and his possible intentions with the items of power he seeks. If he refuses the robe, though a little misguided in our opinion, he would probably have the best intentions for his kingdom at heart and worthy of our trust on a trial basis. What are your thoughts?"
